Chapter 7: Chapter 7

"You're smiling more than usual today and I'm starting to get worried." Noah said but I just smiled at him.

I couldn't stop thinking about the brief conversation I had with Precious….she really looked precious. Her voice sounded so angelic and I could listen to her talk all day.

At first, when she said no after I asked for her number,I was hurt but I wasn't sure why I mean, I didn't even know the girl. But the way she quickly explained the reason she said no put a smile on my face and I couldn't wait to talk to her today after work.

"You're not answering me." Noah said.

"I'm going to meet the girl from the restaurant today." I told him,and he had a look of disbelief on his face.

"Oh really, you expect me to believe that?" He asked.

"I'm serious, her name is Precious and she agreed to talk to me today after work though." I explained.

"That was fast,I don't think all the previous girls you had were this fast." He said.

"Dude, she only agreed to talk to me and nothing more." I told him.

"Well you're Michael, she'd agree to talk to you. That's like her golden ticket to stop working where she is and I guess she was excited to give you her number."

"Funny enough, she doesn't have a phone and it didn't look like she knew who I was." I told him.

"You're joking right?" He asked.

"About the fact that she doesn't have a phone or that she didn't recognize me?"

"Both,in this generation she doesn't have a phone, are you sure she's not underage?" Noah asked and there was a hint of laughter in his voice.

"For the sake of my sanity,I hope she isn't." I said.

I counted every hour till it was evening when I would be able to meet her and thanks to Noah the new place we're setting up was moving fast since he had finished drawing out the designs and we had gotten the required materials for it so it wouldn't take time before everything was ready.

"Are you sure it's not too early to start going?" Noah asked when I was getting ready to go around six o'clock.

"She leaves by seven and I'm not taking my car." I explained.

"Oh,I got it disguised...good plan." He said.

"Whatever you think, I'll be going now and I might be a little late."

"Take a condom with you then." He shouted behind me.

"I'm not like you, so I don't need it." I told him.

"Ok... don't say I didn't tell you." He said but I just shook my head and left.

I got there twenty minutes earlier, but I was going to wait. When I saw her come out to clear the plates,I offered her a small smile which she returned.

When she finally got off around seven,I couldn't be happier. She was walking with Comfort before whispering something to her and Comfort nodded before walking off while she came towards me.

"Good evening." She greeted me casually.

"How are you doing and hope your day went well?" I asked.

"Yes,what about yours?" She asked and I wanted to say better, now that I've seen you but I just responded with a small nod.

"Is your friend okay walking alone?" I asked.

"She is." Was her simple answer. My eyes went to her lips which were taunting me.

"Let's go sit down inside." I suggested.

"That is a suicide mission." She said.

"Why? Is something going on inside?" I asked.

"My other friends are inside, and they won't let me breathe in peace if I enter that place." She explained, blinking her eyes lightly and damn those lashes.

I totally understood because if they were anything like Noah then it truly was a suicide mission. I led her to where we could get a cab. I should've brought my car, instead of stressing her out.

"Sorry for the stress." I apologised when we finally got to the nearest bar and I'd paid the driver.

"It's okay."

When we were finally settled,I ordered a drink for her which she thanked me for. I then asked if she could tell me a little about herself but with her facial expressions,I knew that was a soft spot.

"Well, you know my name, and I have two younger sisters." I started,I went on to tell her about what I liked doing and my favorite color and food and she paid rapt attention.

"So you like cooking?" She asked.

"I know it sounds strange but yes, I love cooking. So what's your favorite color?" I asked, because it was easier to ask her instead of forcing it out of her.

"Why don't you guess." She said, warming up to me already.

"Pink or blue?" I asked, remembering my sister's favorite color and since they were both girls.

"Blue is beautiful, but I prefer purple." She answered.

"Dang...I was so close." I joked.

"You said pink or blue, how is that close?" She asked, looking confused.

"Well, who knows, maybe if you combine both of them, it might give you purple." I said.

From that moment, I felt her relax and talked freely with me. I found out she didn't go to the university even though she really wanted to and that she was twenty years old….it is a relief she isn't underage.

"If you like cooking too,why don't you cook here instead of just serving?" I asked.

"They just don't allow anyone to cook for their customers and it was the only job available." She said and I heard the pain of not doing what she liked doing in her voice.

"So if you get a place where you get to cook, you'd leave here?" I asked.

"Depends, I don't want to leave my friend." She answered, referring to Comfort.

"I see, so where did you learn to cook?" I asked.

"In the orphana…" She started before keeping quiet.

"Are you okay?" I asked her when she didn't say anything again.

"Yes, I should get going now,it was nice talking to you Michael." She said getting up on her feet.

"Was she going to say orphanage? What happened to her parents?" I thought to myself.

I paid for the drinks since she refused to eat when I wanted to order something for her.

"Sorry for the wait." I apologised when I finally got to where she was standing outside.

"Sure." She replied.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it,we can talk about something else." I still do not want her to go yet.

"Maybe next time, but I need to go now." She said and I was happy there is going to be a next time

"You can go back now." She said, and I guessed she didn't want me to know where she stays and I respected that.

"Here." I said giving her what I got from where we went.

"You didn't have to." She said looking at the bag I am holding.

"I wanted to." I said, giving her no choice but to collect and I was glad when she collected it.

"Thank you.

"It's fine. I'll see you tomorrow right?" I asked hopefully.

"I don't work on Sundays." She said

"I'll wait for you still, let's say seven." I told her.

"I won't promise." She answered.

"I'll be here." I promised, and I heard her soothing laughter.

Goodnight Michael." She said, walking away.

"Goodnight Precious." I whispered, still watching her retreating figure.

"I do hope you come, Precious." I said, and stopped a cab when I could no longer see her.
