Chapter 20: Chapter 20
I kept pacing around immediately after I spoke to my Dad and he said they were about to start.
"Calm down, she'll be fine." Noah said from where he is seated.
"I know, I just can't help it." I replied.
"I'm sure you're freaking out more than she is right now." He said again, but this time I paid no attention to him.
Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours and soon, my Dad called me to tell me he was coming over.
"You're sick, remember." Noah said, and I'd totally forgotten about our little lie.
"Urgh….. damnit." I cursed.
Not up to twenty minutes, my Dad walked in holding a small bag with him.
"How did it go?" I asked, remembering to place the sick person's role.
"Wonderful….most of them were good, but you know we want only the best." He started.
"I know Dad." I answered.
"We chose the ones we know are good." He said, but that isn't what I needed to hear.
"What did you bring? Did mom make that?" Noah asked.
"No, it's a girl from the restaurant. would you believe she's only twenty years old and she stood out from the rest of the cooks." He explained, and my eyes snapped to Noah's own.
"It's her." I mouthed.
"Play it cool." He mouthed back.
"Wow, she's really young and I hope she's as good as you say she is." I said, but I knew exactly how good she was already.
"A trial will convince you." He said and gave us a takeaway.
He said the second one is for my mom, that she needs to have a taste too.
"Let's dig in already." Noah said excitedly, as he'd be waiting to taste her food ever since I told him that she's good.
"Of course." I responded.
We took the spoon and started eating, and trust me it's even better than the one she gave me at her place.
"I'm sure it has cleared your headache." My Dad said.
"You're still here?" I asked, I thought he'd gone.
"I had to see the wonders rice can cause, but I'm going now it's better not to keep your mother waiting." He said, and he was gone.
"Damn….. she's good, when next are we visiting her?" Noah asked.
"Idiot...we never visited her together." I reminded him except if he's counting the day we took her home.
"Hmm we did, I just happened to be waiting in the car." He said.
We started going about how it didn't count as visiting someone but he wouldn't listen.. the ringing of my phone shut the both of us up.
"Hey Angel." I said when I picked up,and I played as if I didn't know what happened.
"Mikey guess what?" She asked, and the excitement in her voice is everything to me.
"What?" I asked.
"Wait, is sugar there? I want the two of you to hear it together." She said.
"Yes, he is." I murmured, putting the phone on loudspeaker.
"I got the job." She said excitedly.
"Congrats Angel."
"Congrats beautiful, we knew you'd get it." We said with equal excitement.
"Thank you, I'm so happy right now." She continued.
"Me too." I told her.
"I can't wait to eat what you prepared for them." Noah said, as if we didn't just consume a whole plate.
"I should've brought some back but the man asked for takeaway. don't worry when I get paid, I'll cook for you specially since Michael had eaten my food before." She said.
"But he just…." I started before Noah placed his hand over my mouth.
"Thank you beautiful, I'm starting the countdown already." He said.
"Idiot." He mouthed to me.
Luckily, Noah got a call from a client so he left Precious and I alone but not before saying goodbye and congratulations once more.
"I think Comfort should try there because I think the pay is better and we'd be together." She said.
"That's a good idea, you don't have to go home alone." I told her.
"I know. Thanks for believing in me.." She said and if I wasn't paying attention, I wouldn't have heard.
"It's because you're good... would you like to come over to my place tomorrow?" I asked, and I didn't know why but it was already out of my mouth before I could stop it.
"Like your place, where you stay?" She asked, and I stifled a laugh at the question…"where else would I be talking about."
"Yes, where I stay." I told her.
"I'd love to….wait, what time tomorrow?" She asked, after she'd started to say yes.
"When I get off work maybe." I suggested.
"I promised David to hang out with him tomorrow, can I call you when we're done?" She asked.
"David?" I asked, hoping I didn't sound jealous because like hell I'm jealous.
"Yea, my neighbor, the one you saw that night." She explained vaguely.
"The one that when you saw him, you left my hand?" I wanted to ask.
"Ok." I said instead.
She promised to call as soon as she was done.she also promised to be done before I got off work which is a relief that she's excited to hang out with me.
"I've always thought you didn't want me to know where you stay." She admitted, and I felt bad because I made her feel like that.
"I promise, it's nothing like you're thinking, I just didn't want you to say no." I told her.
"I love hanging out with you, why would I say no?" She asked. There's a certain way she talks sometimes that makes me feel guilty and now is one of those times.
"I'm sorry." I apologised and I realized I've never really apologised to any woman and meant it except my mom. But now that I'm telling her I was sorry, I actually meant it.
She's making me do things I'd thought I would do.
"It's okay. So we'll see tomorrow right?" She asked.
"Yes, it's a date….I mean an hango….you know what I mean." I said, stammering a little.
"Actually I don't, why don't you enlighten me." She said with a small laugh.
"She's actually enjoying this." I thought.
"I missed you." She said, and my head somersaulted from happiness.
"Me too, Angel." I replied.
"You're not just saying that, are you?" She asked, and I nodded negatively before remembering she couldn't see me.
"Sorry, I was nodding." I told her.
"It's okay, have you eaten?" She asked.
The conversation went on smoothly from there, I changed my position to a more comfortable one because of how long we spoke for.
We ended the call when we ran out of what to say, even though I could just listen to her rant.
"Bye Mikey, see you tomorrow." She whispered.
"Bye Angel, I can't wait…..I really can't." I told her, and ended the call.
