Chapter 19: Chapter 19

I am nervous for tomorrow,I don't know if it'll be as easy as it was at De ultimate and I was kinda scared.

"What if they ask us to cook?" I asked Comfort who just kept staring at me.

"Well...then you cook duh." She replied.

"What if they don't like it?" I asked again.

Sighing deeply she looked straight into my eyes which, by the way, freaked me out before answering.."they'll be crazy not to,so stop worrying about your pretty self."

"Thanks, that made me feel better." I told her,and it actually did help me feel better.

After I dropped the call with Michael, David knocked on the door.

"Hey,is something wrong?" I asked in a polite way wondering why he was knocking seeing that it's already late.

"It's hard to see you these days,so I thought I'd make use of the opportunity." He replied calmly, and I started feeling guilty because he'd been nothing but nice to me since I moved in.

"I'm sorry, why don't we sit over there and talk?" I asked and he smiled at me.

"He's handsome,why didn't I notice before?" I asked myself.

"So how have you been?" He asked, when we got comfortable on one of the benches in the compound.

"Nothing much, just going to check out that new place. Hopefully they hire me." I told him.

"Oh,you mean 'Lavish'?" He asked and I think that's what Michael called it the last time, I've forgotten.

"I think that's the one, it's close to my former place of work." I said.

"Yea it's lavish and it's well known almost everywhere." He explained, but I've never heard of it so maybe it's not that popular.

"Ok."

"How did you know they're hiring since you barely leave your room?" He asked.

"Oh... about that." I started, scratching the back of my neck.."how exactly do I explain who Michael is,to him?" I thought because I'm also confused.

"You know that guy you saw me with the other night,he told me." I said.

"About that, are you two together or something?" He asked shyly.

"Oh, he's just a friend." I answered too quickly for my liking, but why does it feel as though I was lying.

"That's okay." He said, and he actually looked relieved.

"It's not okay,I need him to be more than a friend." I wanted to say,but I didn't as I only smiled at him.

We spoke for a while before deciding to continue tomorrow after my interview which is fine as I am already feeling sleepy.

"I hope I don't sleep off tomorrow." I thought.

I got up as early as I could the next morning to prepare, and in no time I was done since it's just to have my bath and wear clothes.

"How do I look?" I asked Comfort who was preparing for work….in case I forgot, they gave her my spot.

"Beautiful now go get yourself a job." She said and I nodded before rushing out of the house.

I got to the restaurant early enough but I still met people there. Using my handkerchief,I wiped away the sweat on my face before turning my attention back to the entrance which was still closed.

Michael and Noah called me to wish me luck, this is exactly what I needed around me...a positive attitude and a family to push me.

Approximately ten minutes after I got there, the doors were opened and immediately people started rushing in,but I didn't understand why. It's an interview or something of sort and not first come first serve but all the same,to be on the safer side I joined them.

We were then addressed by a man who looked oddly familiar but I couldn't place where or how and his physique spelt dominance and power.

He then divided us into different groups: those who came for the position of chefs, then waiters and waitresses. There were other positions too,but I stopped paying attention because I could feel my heart beating rapidly.

After that was done,he led us to a big building behind the restaurant which I assumed was the kitchen and then told us to wow him. On the table were different food ingredients, some which I've only seen but never used, all of them sat there looking at me.immediately we were given the go ahead I got to work and surprisingly I was calm.

Everything went on for about two hours, before the man came back to tell us to start rounding up and since I was almost done,I started cleaning up because of the mess I made while cooking. After that was done,I started looking at the others who were still running helter skelter while others added finishing touches and they looked professional….. Now I am scared.

"I need you to dish out part of what you've prepared and follow me." A different man announced, and he wasn't smiling.

Dishing the fried rice and jollof rice I made just like we do back at De ultimate and when I was certain it looked nice enough,I said a little prayer to God before following the man.

"We've all done well, here with me are some of our top chefs in other branches. Though it's a pity my son isn't here, they will judge you." The first man we met

whose name I still didn't know said.

We dropped our dishes in front of them, and they each took out part of the food and there were about six of them.

"What's your name?" The same man asked.

"Precious, what's your name Sir?" I asked too.

"You can call me Richard." He answered, with a look of surprise on his face….I should have just kept my mouth shut.

"How old are you?" Mr Richard asked again.

"Twenty years old." I replied.

"Precious,I need you to package a take away of this for me if it's remaining." He said and my smile widened.

"I'll do that right away Sir." I told him as I left before I heard him say.."I need to show them how good our new chef is.

"I got the job." I repeated over and over as I felt my eyes begin to water.

I whispered a quick thank you Lord as I found the takeaway plates well arranged on a shelf.

"Goodbye Sir." I said after I gave him the takeaways.

"See you Monday." He said, and I wondered why Monday as today is just Thursday.

"We still need more workers." Mr Richard said, noticing my confused expression.

"Comfort better come tomorrow." I thought as I nodded at him.

As I walked back home, the only thing I thought about is how proud Michael would be.
