Chapter 10: Chapter 10

It has been a week since I gave Comfort the phone and she was over the moon but I wasn't sure I wanted to accept it.

"What do you mean you will return it?" She'd asked when I told her my plan to return it.

"You know, when you give….." I started to explain but she cut me short.

"I know what it means to return something, I'm just wondering why you want to return it. He gave it to you without you asking." She said

Let's just say,she talked sense into me and we became proud new owners of a new samsung galaxy A52 and I knew because it was written on the phone case.

Michael didn't come the next day or the day after but he showed up on Wednesday and I thanked him profusely for the phone.

Comfort joined me this time to thank him and I swear, he looked embarrassed...to cut the long story short, he took us out again and we got another bowl of ice-cream but this time, the three of us were there.

When the girls at work saw it,they took it upon themselves to check its quality even after telling them I am the one who opened the case first.

"Who bought it?" Tracy asked.

"A good friend." I answered, because I didn't know how she would react if I told her 'the handsome customer' got it for me and Comfort just within how many days of meeting him.

"You're so lucky." Grace murmured.

"I guess." I said

"You're not paid to sit around and gossip are you?" We heard the Cold voice of Mary, and in a flash we dispersed back to our duty post.

I spoke to Michael on the phone everyday with him doing all the calling.

Though we only talked when I got back home after work because i mustn't be seen talking on the phone when I was supposed to be working.

The days we talk the most are the times he didn't come to the restaurant because of work,or maybe family dinner...which is something I have grown to envy about him.

"Michael didn't come today?" Comfort asked.

"No, said he had to stay back at work." I told her.

"Where does he work?" She asked again.

"He just told me to oversee the activities of the place he works and make everyone stay busy when they're supposed to be." I explained to her.

"Oh, okay." She said simply.

"Why are you asking?" I asked her.

"I'm planning your future, baby. I need someone who can take care of you." She said and I laughed.

"I'm not sure what you found funny in what I just said." She complained.

"He doesn't even like me." I pointed out.

"Of course, because guys go around buying things for a girl and her friend on a daily basis. Guys also call any girl just to check if she's eaten or if she's fine right?" She asked, as if I was the dumbest person on the surface of planet earth.

"Well..we can't say." I said, not sure about how I feel hearing that Michael likes me.

"Maybe I should rephrase that, guys don't go around doing those things for just any girl." She rephrased.

"Thanks for making that clear." I told her.

"I know you like him too." She said.

"I don't understand, he's just a friend. I don't see him like that." I lied easily. Of course I liked him. Who wouldn't when someone treats you well and your opinion matters.

"Really! How would you feel if you saw him kissing some other girl tomorrow?" She asked.

Just the thought alone is breaking my heart, and I knew there and then that I had fallen for him too.

"I wouldn't like it." I answered quietly.

"I know, and that's because you like him but you also don't want to commit to him." She said as if she read my thoughts.

"It's just that…." I started.

"You're scared he'll be another Vincent." She finished for me, and I nodded.

"You won't know, but you'll miss out on the good ones if you keep assuming things about them.

"Ok, I'll just go with the flow." I said.

"That's the spirit girl." She said.

Just as we finished talking, my phone started ringing and I knew straight away that it was Michael calling because I didn't have a lot of people who would call me except Tracy and Grace and I saw them at work today.

"Hy Mikey." I said,my excited voice gave out the fact that I missed him today.

"Wow…. someone is happy to hear my voice and that nickname." He said smiling.

"I can call you Mike if you want." I said thinking he didn't like the name...who even asked me.

"I like it." He said with a small smile.

"Okay." I said shyly as I looked at Comfort who was winking at me.

"Tell me how your day went." He said, his voice sounding tired.

"It was the same thing as yesterday, tell me about yours." I asked.

"Nothing interesting,I missed you." He said, and my smile widened.

"I missed you too." I told him.

"Have you eaten?" He asked again.

"Yes,I ate the food we we're given from work.

I asked him the same question but he had not eaten and when I asked,he said he wanted to hear my voice before he started eating so I offered to end the call so he could eat but he refused saying he was fine.

"Are you coming tomorrow?" I asked, and hopefully he said yes.

"I'm not sure, but I'll try to make it." He said, and at least it isn't a no.

"Okay. Maybe you should rest, you're sounding tired." I told him, because it is as though he was fighting to stay awake.

"I'm fine, don't worry your pretty self." He said.

We talked till it was my turn to start yawning, showing that it is time to sleep and again I have work the next day.

"Maybe you should rest, you're sounding tired." He repeated the same thing I told him.

"Hey, I said that first." I whined.

"Don't be a crybaby, besides it's a free country." He said, chuckling lightly.

"Thanks for reminding me. Bye Mikey,I hope I see you tomorrow." I said, whispering the last part but he still heard me.

"I'll try to make out time for you." I heard him say the other side of the call.

"Okay. Goodnight Mikey." I said.

"Goodnight Angel." He said softly.

No sooner had I dropped the call that I fell asleep close to an already sleeping Comfort.
