Chapter 44: Chapter 44
SCARLETT’S POV
(A/n: This was before Scarlett’s leaving and her last conversation with Dominic.)
“Wait… Why now?”
I sighed and turned to face Claire.
“Dominic will not stop as long as I am here.”
She chuckled and pointed at me.
“That fool really loves you, doesn’t he? He’ll do anything to please you.”
In annoyance, I kicked her and crossed my arms.
“Damn, why is he so annoying?!?”
Claire giggled and wrapped her arms around me.
“That’s why you liked Dominic because he was annoying, right, Mrs. Stone?” asked Claire with a smile, which irritated me.
“Shut the f-ck up, Perkins!” I yelled, but she just laughed.
“Let him be; he appears to be regretting what he did.”
I sighed and leaned in my swivel chair.
“It’s difficult Claire, especially now that I don’t know the safety of my children, so I’ll entrust the children to him,” I said, looking at the white board filled in pictures of Madrid Enterprise members.
“It looks Solen is quiet now,” she said suddenly, which made me think.
Solen went silent after I threatened her at her event. I just don’t know whether she’s still plotting something against me or the clan.
I will not let her get ahead of me.
“We shouldn’t relax; Solen will not stop because I know she’s going to fight me again.”
Claire remained silent because she knew the enemy was cunning, which meant I had to be as well.
I’ve prepared the belongings I’ll need to take to San Martin, and Carter has prepared the stuff I’ll need to conceal my identity.
“Here’s what you need.”
“Brother.”
He smirked and handed me the folder containing my new identity.
“Are you certain about this?”
I gave him a nod and closed my suitcase.
“There's no turning back,” I said as he smiled, wrapping his arms around my shoulder.
“Be careful; if you need anything else, call me; I'll take care of it here,” he said.
I nodded and hugged him because I owed him so much.
“Thank you; you will look after the chairman,” I said as I patted him on the shoulder and wiped my tears.
I cannot guarantee my safety, but I will survive so that I can return to my children.
Chairman has already returned home, and he appears to be unaware of what happened between me and Solen Madrid. My cousins didn’t seem to say anything, so the Knights remained silent, and also they know what I intend to do now.
“M-mom…”
I let go of his hug and smiled at my crying children.
“Do you really need to *HIC* l-leave?” asked Carrie. I kissed her on the forehead while smiling and caressing her hair.
“I’m just going to finish something, okay? Be nice to your daddy, and I’ll be right back,” I said while crying.
Carrie embraced me and pressed her face against my stomach.
“P-please… M-mommy… Don’t leave us…”
I bit my lower lip as I hugged Carrie. She’s the one who cries and can’t sleep when I'm not home.
It’s difficult for a mother to leave her children, but if I don't, the clan’s enemies may involve them.
They will only bother me, but not my children because they’re dead… I will fight alone for my children, and I will risk my life for them.
I will not let them touch my kids. Before touching my children, they will pass over my dead body.
My entire world is them. They have been my life since the world was in chaos, and they are my only source of strength to fight, so I don’t want to lose them because I might go insane if I do.
“Mommy!!”
I put my hand over my mouth and looked at Agustin, who was standing quietly beside me, but I could tell he wanted to cry like Carrie.
I grabbed his shoulder and messed up his hair.
“You look after our princess, okay? I’ll only be gone for a while; don’t leave your sister alone,” I said, smiling.
He bowed and nodded, but he also hugged me, which surprised me.
“P-please, m-mommy… Come back, okay?”
I smiled at him while wiping his tears and kissing him on the cheek.
“Of course, mommy will return, and I will take you for a walk through the Knights’ lands.”
I kissed their cheeks and stood to follow Carter.
“Claire, please tell Dominic that he will take care of my children,” I said.
Claire nodded.
“I can’t even guarantee that I’ll be able to return soon, but I will return safely,” I smiled, but she glared at me and hugged me as well.
“I’ll accompany you there! You can’t die!” she cried.
It surprised me because I could feel her shaking as she hugged me, but all I did was smile and pat her on the back.
“Scarlett, promise me you won’t have a wound when you get home!”
I nodded and laughed.
“Yes, I will return home safely and finish what needs to be finished,” I said as I waved at her.
My children screamed before I could exit the gate, so I came to a halt.
“Mommy!”
I dropped my bags and looked at them; I saw them run to me and hug me, so I hugged them hard and cried.
“Y-you’re going to eat a lot, okay? You’ll go to bed early, and when there’s lightning and thunder, just hug mommy’s picture and the teddy bear I bought it, so you won’t miss me. You’ll be nice, okay?” I said and pressing my forehead against theirs.
“Mommy loves you so much,” I whispered as I kissed them on the cheek.
“Scarlett.”
Before standing up, I wiped my tears and kissed their cheeks one last time.
“M-mommy…”
Carrie took something from her pocket and handed her a pendant that she had made herself.
“I-I did that for you, mommy,” she sniffed.
I smiled and slipped the pendant she’d made into my pocket.
“Thank you; I’ll keep it and take it with me wherever I go,” I said, smiling at Carrie, who nodded and smiled back.
“Come on, Scarlett, it’s getting late.”
I nodded to Carter and smiled one last time at my children before turning my back on them; my brother also took my belongings.
“You’ll be back, Mommy! We’ll wait!”
I covered my mouth and took a deep breath because I wanted to return to them and never leave them, but I maintained myself so that there would be no more trouble.
“We’ll be waiting for you, Mommy, and we’ll celebrate our birthdays.”
I began crying as I was getting into Carter’s car, and I looked out the window to see my children crying and Claire comforting them.
I gave them one last wave before Carter started his car.
“Scarlett, you don’t have to do this.”
“Brother…”
He was surprised that I was still crying.
“I-I’m afraid…”
“Scarlett.”
I covered my face.
“I’m afraid this is the last time I’ll see them… They’re still young.”
I’m not certain why, but I became anxious that this might be the last time I saw and hug my children.
I am not concerned about what will happen to me, but I am concerned about how my children will react if their mother does not return safely.
“I told you we’re with you, Scarlett; you don’t have to do this alone,” he sighed. “I won’t let you do it alone if I disrespect your decision,” he said.
I leaned back, took the pendant Carrie had made for me from my pocket, placed it on my chest, and closed my eyes.
I will get home safe for my kids, and I’ll do it for them so that I can finish the fight they started.
Likewise, I will not let one of us perish, nor will I let my children suffer.
I took a deep breath, replaced the pendant in my pocket, and returned my gaze to Carter, who was driving.
“No, brother, I’m going to do this without involving my children, and I’m doing it for their sake; I will put them out of my mind, so I can focus on what I’m going to do.” I swallowed. “This is something I must do.”
I looked out the window as he smirked.
This is something I must do for my children on my own.
“This is the Scarlett Venice Knight I know.”
My eyes widened as I turned around and noticed Rios stretching and Erin yawning.
“What the heck are these siblings doing here?!?” I yelled in surprise at Carter, who smirked at me.
“Do you think I’m going to leave you alone? Since someone was following us.”
“Huh?”
I looked behind us and saw a car following us, and I knew it wasn't Dominic.
“F-ck! They must have heard I was leaving!”
“Hmm… I wonder if that’s Solen Madrid’s staff?”
I frowned at Rios, who raised his eyebrows at me.
“What exactly do you mean?”
He smirked and pressed his foot against the back of my seat, which I smacked.
“Solen Madrid is no longer here; she is in San Martin,” Rios smirked.
“Oh, really?”
I just acted that way because I knew. That’s why she remained silent after my warning at her event.
“What is that reaction?!?”
I sighed and rolled my eyes. “What exactly are you doing here?!?”
Carter laughed and pointed to my forehead as I hit him.
“I won’t leave you alone, that’s why I brought them,” Carter smirked. “Foremost, let us deceive them.”
I shook my head at them, not expecting the siblings to protect me from what I was about to do.
Carter made me look like a fool.
“I said I’d do it by myself!”
“Nah-uh, Scarlett, you can do whatever you want; Dane and I are just going on vacation; don’t be too noisy.”
I glared at Rios, who only smirked back.
He assumed Dane was already his boyfriend, TSK.
I'll keep Dane away from Rios because Rios is a bad influence on him.
I leaned back and rolled my eyes.
Carter led the one who had been following us away from us, and we arrived at his company safely.
I followed them until we arrived at the Rooftop, where a chopper was waiting for us and I saw Dane, who appeared to be waiting for Rios.
“The chopper is ready, M-Miss Scarlett, Sir E-Erin, Sir Carter, and Sir Rios,” he said.
Rios smiled and embraced him. “That’s why I came along with you.”
I covered my mouth when I noticed Dane’s frown at Rios.
Pft. I think Rios is already under.
Dane turned to face me, smiled, and helped me in riding the chopper.
My cousins and Dane also joined.
“Dane will be your secretary,”
I smiled and nodded at Carter, before putting the headphones on my ears.
“Please contact me.”
When my brother motioned for me to call him, I nodded and shut the chopper door.
I closed my eyes and held the pendant Carrie had made.
“Let’s go to San Martin.”
