Chapter 65: Chapter 65
Val was devastated and confused as to what to do. She needed to get to Seattle as soon as possible. Val's face contorted in disappointment.
Val had planned to find a hotel room to rest in once she got to Seattle and then prepare herself to meet Bob at the court afterwards.
" We could take a rest and return before that time" Aidan stepped in to suggest.
However, Val couldn't stand staying in San Francisco any longer. The more she stayed, the more she felt uneasy. It was as though something bad would happen if she didn't leave instantly.
In the end, Val decided to wait till the scheduled time for the flight to take off.
" I guess I'll wait here and see how things go. You should return Aidan" Val excused Aidan after having settled in the departure lounge. It was almost 1 am already and she was supposed to take the 2 am flight which was now delayed until 6 am.
" I'll stay and see to it that you leave safely ma'am. How am I to face Mr Richardson if anything happens to you?" Aidan politely refused and insisted on staying.
Val shook her head and didn't say anything anymore. She understood he still had guilts for what had happened earlier but he couldn't have done anything about that anyway. In the end, he had helped bring the police to her rescue at the right time. Again, without him, Val didn't even know how she'd be fairing tonight.
What if she hadn't made the attempt she made back then and attorney Chris had defiled her, what would she be doing now? She could vividly remember how attorney Chris had pinned her down and had her helpless. At that moment, she had lost all hope and could see herself being...
Val shuddered and quickly dismissed the thought. Her heart started to race again and cold sweat formed on her face. She quickly held her chest to calm herself.
' It's over. I'm fine...' Val consoled herself.
While in thought of this, Val's heart drop as the worry about attorney Chris not leaking her nudes dawned on her once again.
However, when she remembered she'd deleted every of the nudes on his laptop, she felt a little assured. Val could only put her hopes on the police whom she couldn't even face anymore as they must have seen the nudes on Attorney Chris' phone. In any case, she believed she'd be a little relieved once she'd left San Francisco.
Val covered her face with her palms and leaned over her knee. This was literally the worst day of her life, and she didn't know if she would ever learn to forget about it.
But anyway, Bob needed to know about everything , and that's why she needed to go meet him and inform him before he left for court. And she wanted to leave San Francisco as well, she wanted to leave so badly...
' That's right, what about Mark!" Val remembered that he'd agreed to make witness at court for Bob. She grabbed her phone and hurried to dial his number.
...
That evening when Val had met with attorney Chris at an open restaurant and after the attorney had asked Val to infiltrate Courtney's office.
Val left for her apartment and had a shower. Then, she had an unexpected guest.
Thinking it was the pizza delivery guy, Val had opened the door to her apartment. Only that it turned out to not be who she had expected it to be.
As a matter of fact, it was Mark who had come visiting!
Val was surprised and had quickly raced in her thought to figure out how Mark had come to know where she stayed. She concluded afterwards that he must have followed her.
" I'm only here to have a talk" Mark had stated his intent and after giving it a concise thought, Val had decided to let him in.
Once they had settled in the living room, Val didn't stand around for ceremony. Val had no reason to be amicable with Mark. she had asked straight away,
" Why are you here!?" Her voice was cold and hostile. Mark was no more than an estranged acquaintance to Val. If anything, she made it an objective to never look at him as nothing else but an enemy.
" Val... I have... I've come to apologize for my deeds. I realized that I've been so wrong to you and all of that... Not that I don't take blame for it, nor am I asking that you look at me the same way you have in the past. I'm only asking that you set aside our differences and forgive my actions." Mark had begged sincerely.
Val frowned and was silent for a long while. To be honest, she held no grudge against Mark. To her, he was already dead and was a nobody. As long as he wasn't asking that they be close or anything, Val was happy to have him not disturb her life again at the cost of forgiveness.
" I have nothing against you, Mark." Val had stated.
Mark had senses that there was no emotion in Val's words and it hurt him. However, he knew he deserved it.
" Val, I.. I've learnt about the divorce trial and all. And I want to appear in court to testify against Courtney. But I do not have an idea on how to go about this So I've come to you" Mark knowing about Val and Bob having a close relationship, had hinted that he was willing to help.
Val was shocked at first, but then she'd asked just to be certain. She didn't trust Mark in any way.
" Why?"
" I want to have my revenge" Mark had stated, but in truth, he was looking for a way to get back with Val. He thought by being around her more, he could win back her trust. Though, he truly wanted to see Courtney lose everything she had and was willing to see this happen in every way possible.
...
" Hi, where are you now?" Val asked the instant Mark picked the call.
" Home? San Francisco? ... When are you leaving for Seattle again?
... Your flight is 8 in the morning?" Val asked. She was silent afterwards as she listened to Mark speak.
" Okay... No, nothing. I just wanted to be certain... Bye" After ending the call, Val creased her gaze in thought.
' So Mark will take the flight to Seattle in the morning?'
After having confirmed from Mark the other day his intent, Val had contacted Bob and told him about Mark's offer to appear in court as a witness. It was then that Val learnt the time and Venue of the trial as Bob had informed that Mark arrive in Seattle before then.
Val couldn't be more thankful that she'd forgotten to inform attorney Chris of this. Or maybe she thought she didn't have to.because she'd already told Bob.
In any case, Val didn't know if Bob had told the attorney about this already. But, anyway, it didn't seem like attorney Chris had planned to do anything about it either.
' Courtney's ultimate plan was to have me be brought to court to confess that I had a relationship with Bob... Yes, without the audio recording from me, Mark's words wouldn't be believed by the court without a relevant evidence. So Courtney didn't worry' Val made a quick conjecture. In truth, Mark's presence in Court was only an additional witness count, nothing more...
As of current, things were looking well enough...
