Chapter 26: Chapter 26

" It's quite a shame that you'd fuck your way up to this point" Mark stopped smiling and pressed with a straight face. He straightened his back as he looked condescendingly over Val.

He was truly hurt, envious and felt betrayed. The previous feelings he had towards Val that he thought had apparently ceased to exist resurfaced again, and ever since Maggie made mention of Val being with Bob, Mark had been furious.

Val had somewhat struck a big dent on his ego. Val didn't say anything as she just watched him with creased gaze and rapped a finger on the table.

" All for what... This?" He spread his arms to his side to point at everything around.

" Revenge?" Mark shook his head in disbelief, his face bitter and sour from how much he hurt. Mark paused and just stared at Val, he just shot his head forward and spread his arms as if inquiring a response.

For the longest of while, he was met with nothing but silence.

" Hahaha" Val burst into a fit of laughter.

Mark visibly trembled in spot, he was slightly taken aback by Val's reaction to his heartfelt confrontation.

Is this how she would respond? Really? Putting him in ridicule?

The fact that Val would laugh at this situation made him fluster in frustration. It's not even funny!

Val lost control of her laughter and eventually struggled to seat in her chair as she held a hand above her tummy, and another above her head. she reclined in her chair nevertheless and continued to laugh her heart out.

It took quite a while before she slowly gained control of herself.

" Revenge? haha" she raised a brow at Mark and corked her head to the side as she leaned forward to ask. Val chortled again at the end of her statement, finding it amusing.

She swiped a finger at her eyes to wipe the tears that had begun to form at the corner of her eyes.

"You really do think so big of yourself don't you Mark?" Val said incessantly in a serene tone.

" What do you mean?" Bob asked through gritted teeth. His hands were clenched into a fist beside him.

" Well, I-" Val was going to say, but instead she said,

" Don't give me that crap!" She stated a low cold tone. She leaned forward and clasped her fingers on the table." You have no shame trying to act like the saint. Like you didn't fuck your way up to where you're currently at either! And this? This? like you wouldn't stoop to the lowest to get to where I am now. Stop with the hypocrisy and go find something to do with your pathetic life!"

Val had noticed the hurt on his face, and had wanted to fuel the pain by describing to him how Bob had fucked her. But she wisely paused before she would say this, and decided to call him out for his hypocrisy.

Val realized this might all be a setup and that she shouldn't be impulsive about it but rather careful. Of course, she wouldn't back down from the confrontation and make it seem like she had already suspected what Mark was up to...

Bob was right after all, Courtney had Mark in the palm of her hands.

Mark shot a cold glance at Val. But then he smiled. It was true after all, Valerie was right.

" Of course! and I have no regrets" Mark wouldn't play the victim, instead he wanted Val to break as well.

" I mean look at me, I'm a special breed. Ladies want me, they can't get enough of me"

" Oh, crap! Shove that egoistic crap deeper in your ass you bastard and keep moaning and crying about it all you want! Guess what, nobody gives two fucks!"

" All you do is woo lowly women who aren't even up to be called a good hit and you brag about it all about like it's your biggest accomplishment in life. Are you not ashamed of yourself?" Val feigned anger just to make him speak more. She purposely hit directly at his ego, hoping that perhaps she could turn the tables at him.

" Hahaha! good hits? Well, have you seen the CEO?"

' Got him!' Val grinned internally. She wasn't expecting that he'd fall into her trap that easily.

Mark is an absolute egotist, and a fool. He wouldn't let Val's statement just now slide like that, so he tried to show how much of a big deal he was by blurting out how he'd had an affair with Courtney.

" What?" Val asked looking confused and baffled on purpose.

" Hahaha! I like it. I like that look on your face!" Mark laughed with his head kicked back and a palm planted over his face. He still hadn't realized he was being played.

" That's right, The CEO was one of those lowly women I slept with. Not a good hit enough for you? huh? huh?! oh you suddenly can't speak now?" He gave an arrogant diatribe as though he had achieved the most in life and was now only flaunting it sarcastically.

Mark didn't seem to care if this came to light, and Courtney got to know that he'd said this someday. Right now, all that mattered to him was his retaliation, his image, pride, and that look of shock in Val's gaze. It was the best, he finally made her feel just the way he wanted. It was his victory!

"Hold on to all of this as much as you can Val." Mark smirked as he turned around to leave. " I promise that it won't last too long. Not as much as you think it will..."

Val creased her gaze and attempted a poker face, staring at Mark's back as he walked away. She was still surprised by the sudden confession made by Mark.

Slam!

Just as Mark stepped out of her office, Val's expression finally broke and she stared at a loss at the door with her mouth slightly apart.

Was that it?

She didn't even need to do anything? Just as she was thinking nothing was going to work, Mark himself walked up to her and gave the necessary evidence they had planned to retrieve from the start. This was basically the reason why Bob had requested her assistance in his divorce.

Mission accomplished, just like that!

Val couldn't be any glad that Bob made her attach the wiretap device on her everytime she was in the company, just as though he knew moments like this would occur.

Val smiled a little after. She had only been worried for naught. It seems everything was going to work out someway or the other after all.

" Hahahaha!" Val couldn't hold back the amusement anymore. She laughed softly at Mark's stupidity. If only he knew what he'd just done.

" Honestly, how did I ever think to marry such an idiot?" She lampooned in a mutter with a bitter smile.

But Val realized something. Mark must have realized something recently about her relationship with Bob, that's probably why he had confronted her.

' He is a hot blooded fellow after all, and would have made this approach a long time ago if he'd known. Meaning, someone else in the company was behind this? And that person is certainly not the Courtney. Mark is stupid, but he wouldn't have blurted out that piece of information like that. The CEO would have warned him if it were to be her. Then who?' Val broke into thought.

She could only narrow it down to one person. Margarette!

" She's an enemy!" Val's eyes widened as she muttered thoughtfully to herself.

'But in any case...'

She picked up her phone and dialed a number.

" Attorney Chris, we need to talk."
