Chapter 52: Chapter 52
It was around seven in the evening when Wade came in. I was done packing at that time and was having dinner with Vera. We invited him in for dinner but he refused and said that he already ate at the hotel he was staying. Vera was confused as to why he and I were going home together and I just told her everything. She didn't contradict my decision and just told me to think of my decisions thoroughly.
Wade took my luggage when I went down the stairs. He carried it out and into the car while Vera and I followed behind him. He placed it into the backseat of his car carefully.
"Take care, you two, okay?" Vera said. "I don't know why you guys chose to travel at this hour."
"We will," I said. "Don' worry; I'll text you when we get there."
"You better," She said and hugged me. "I am going to miss you here."
"I am going to miss you too," I said. "I'll visit as soon as I can, okay?"
"I'll look forward to that," She said and let go of me.
"We'll go ahead," I said. Wade opened the door for me and I got in. I opened the window to wave at Vera.
"Thank you so much for everything," I heard Wade said before he entered the driver's seat and started the car.
Vera stepped back as Wade started to drive off. I waved at her until I could no longer see her. I stopped and closed the window. I sighed. I don't know what waits for me back home but I just hope that this won't be as difficult as I think it would be.
"Are you alright?" Wade asked me.
"Yeah," I said as I shifted on my seat. I tried so hard not to look his way but it felt like my eyes have their own minds since they kept on glancing at him. I missed our long rides together; like the one where we met a client at a resort. I could never forget that time.
"Do you want to sleep? Just pushed your chair back and lay down. It's still a long drive back home." He said.
"No, I'm fine," I said without even looking at him this time. "I don't want to sleep while you're driving."
I saw from my peripheral vision that he nodded. We were silent after that. I just focused on looking outside the car and on the side roads.
"Weren't you supposed to be working these past few days?" I said when I could no longer take the silence between us.
"Yeah, I was," He said. I waited for him to say more but he didn't. What does he mean by that? I didn't bother asking for more. If he didn't want us to talk then fine, I won't force him. I took my phone and earphones and just lay back in my seat. I listened to some music while looking outside the window.
~~~
I didn't know what was going on but I was sure that I felt like I was floating in the air. I tried opening my eyes but it just wouldn't. I thought of what happened and remembered that Wade and I were traveling back home. With that thought, I immediately opened my eyes and figured out that Wade was carrying me and we were already inside his house.
"What are you doing?" I said hoarsely.
"Stay still," He said as he took me upstairs.
"No," I said as I wiggled a bit. "Put me down."
"No, just stay still, or else you'll fall." He said sternly.
I rolled my eyes and just stayed still. He went to our room and it immediately alerted me.
"Come on; put me down now," I said. "And didn't I tell you that I won't be staying in the same room with you?"
He opened the door to our old room as if he didn't hear what I just said. He placed me on the bed carefully.
"Hey!" I said. "Didn't you hear me? I said-"
"I know," He cut me off. "But the other rooms aren't cleaned yet. Plus, all your stuff is here. You can just move out tomorrow but for now, you can stay here."
"What?!" I said. "I thought everything was fine. This can't be happening!"
"The cleaner had an emergency earlier and didn't come," He said. "She said she'll be here tomorrow."
I groaned. Now, we are staying in the same room again!
"What's with all the fuss?" He said. "It will only be just for one night."
"Urgh! I hate you!" I said.
"I know," He said and smiled bitterly.
I cleared my throat and stood up. I needed to take a shower and calm my nerves.
"Where are you going?" He said.
"To the bathroom," I said. "I need a shower."
He nodded. Where did he think was I going?
"Do you want me to sleep on the couch instead?" He said. I looked at the couch in his room.
"It's up to you," I said and entered the bathroom without looking at him.
I started taking a shower and thought of a lot of things. What if he tries to do something to me tonight? Oh no, I know he's an ass but I'm pretty sure he won't do something as stupid as that. He might have fooled me but I know he isn't that kind of person who would force himself into someone who doesn't want him. I did my usual nighttime routine before I went out of there.
I was humming my favorite song when I stepped out of the bathroom wearing my robe. I looked at the bed and it was empty. I looked at the couch and saw Wade lying there. He already changed into a simple white tee and pajamas. Why does he look so hot even when he's just wearing normal clothes? Oh jeez Cami, stop it! Get yourself together and don't let his face deceive you.
I went to my things and took something to wear. I chose a simple pair of pajama shorts. I was silent while doing it all; I didn't want to wake him up since I know he was exhausted from the three-hour drive. I sat in front of the mirror and brushed my hair. I can't help but look at the reflection of Wade behind me. He looked so uncomfortable in there. The couch was huge but it didn't cater to him well. He looked so tired that he didn't even have a blanket on with him. I felt kind of guilty by looking at him. He could have the most expensive bed in the world but he chose to sleep on the couch and gave me his bed. I sighed. I looked at the bed and it was huge; so huge that it would be more than enough for the both of us. Should I wake him up and let him sleep beside me? No, no, don't do that Cam; you might give him the wrong impression. Yeah, I won't.
After a few minutes of just staring at him, I breathed heavily and stood up.
