Chapter 42: Chapter 42

The next day, Vera gave me a phone that she bought from the mall. Erin told her to buy one for me and so she did. I really don't need a new phone since I wasn't planning on doing anything with it but she insisted so I accepted it.

I was taking a bath when the phone rang. I already knew who it was since only Erin knew my new number. I went out of the bathroom, good thing I was done, and answered her call.

"Hey," I said and put her on speaker as I dried my hair with a towel.

"Hi," She said. "How are you doing there? Is everything fine?"

"I'm good," I said. "I just got out of the shower actually. Why did you call?"

"Good. Well, I just called to check on you." She said. "Anyway, I have to tell you something."

"What?" I said curiously.

"Your husband came to my condo earlier this morning before I went to work." She said.

"What? Why?!" I said.

"Well, he said he just wanted to know if I have news about your whereabouts." She said.

"And what did you tell him?" I said.

"Of course I told him where you were." She said and I almost let my towel fall to the floor when I heard what she said. What is wrong with her?

"What?! Are you crazy?!" I said. "Why did you tell-"

I heard her laugh on the other side. What is up with her? What seemed to be so funny?

"Chill, Cam," She said. "I was just messing with you. Jeez, hold your horses."

Oh, dear God! What the hell is wrong with her? That wasn't a nice joke at all!

"It's not funny," I said.

"But your reaction is," She said while still laughing. "Oh, Cami,"

"Can you stop? Come on, tell me, what did you tell him?" I said. "Did he know that you were out of town these past few days?"

"Alright, such a killjoy," I told her. "Well, I just told him that I don't know anything and that I haven't talked to you in days."

"And? Do you think he believed you?" I said.

"Well, I don't know," She said. "But he asked me where I was for the past few days. It turned out that he has been visiting my condo and never got a hold of me."

"Does he think that you know where I am?" I said.

"That I really don't know," She said.

I sighed and let the topic go. He can't find me here, can he?

"Alright," I said. "How about my parents? Did you hear from them?"

"Actually, your mom called me earlier and she was asking if I know where you are. It was a terrible thing to do but I lied to her, for your sake." She said.

"Thank you, E," I said. "I am not ready to face everybody yet."

"That's not a problem," She said. "I just hope that you can figure this as soon as possible."

"Yeah, I will," I said. "Thanks for updating me but I have to go. I am going to the mall today. I have to buy some clothes as I only brought a few pairs with me."

"Alright, be careful, okay? You can ask Vera to come and join you so you won't get lost." She said.

"Yeah, sure," I said.

"Alright, bye!" She said.

"Bye!" I said and hang up the phone.

I immediately went over my clothes and picked something to wear today. It was true that I needed to go to the mall today and aside from buying clothes; I also wanted to have fun by myself. Staying here in the house is making me crazy.

~~~
I went outside and waited for a cab. I was alone. I wanted to bring Vera with me but I couldn't find her anywhere. I tried looking for her at this huge house but she is just nowhere. I thought that she might be home with her family so I let her be. I didn't want to intrude too much on her free time and even if I wanted to, I don't know where her house is so I just have to do this alone. I also don't think that I would get lost. Erin told me their exact address and I think I could go back home without getting lost.
I saw a cab and I immediately called it. I hopped in and told the driver to bring me to the nearest mall and he nodded. This is really a nice place. Erin showed me around when she was still here and I admired it here. It's very calm and quiet.
Just a thirty-minute drive from the house, the driver stopped in front of a tall building which I assumed is the mall. He asked for my fare and I gave it to him; I didn't even ask for the change. He thanked me and I only smiled at him. I know it would be a big help for him. I went out and walked towards the mall. It wasn't as huge as the ones back home but I think it could still cater to my needs.
I started off by entering a few boutiques and trying their new arrivals.
"She's very beautiful." I heard one of the salesladies said and I think that she was referring to me as she was looking my way. Not to be boastful but I really saw them looking my way and they even smiled at me.
"Yeah, she looks like the famous model," The other one said. "I really think I have seen her somewhere."
Oh my God! Did they recognize me? I am not that famous and I was also wearing sunglasses even inside the mall. THEY CAN'T KNOW WHO I AM!
"Yeah, she looks familiar but maybe they just look alike," I heard the girl again. I sighed. Yeah, that's not me.
I immediately went out of that boutique and transfer into another one.
There, no one recognized me and so I bought everything that I needed there and immediately went out of the mall. I never thought that someone would recognize me there and I just figured out that what I did was a bad idea. The gossips would travel fast and Wade might know that I am just here.
I immediately hailed a cab and told him to bring me home. It was almost dark outside. I never thought that I have been there for quite a long time. Now, I would have a hard time giving directions to the cab driver. I told him the address and he nodded.
"Do you know where that is?" I asked him.
He didn't say a word and only nodded. I sighed. That's great! Now, I don't have to worry about getting home and not being lost.
