Chapter 59: Chapter 59

"You have to learn to be alone. Learn to do everything individually, people are going to leave you sooner or later anyway." [Jacky]

*******

[Jacqueline]

It's been three days since Remo talked to me. Aside from sending me a two-word text, after my apology "it's okay" there was nothing. He didn't chat with me. Not even for once, he tried even though he was online most of the time. As if he specifically wanted to show me that he was online, he changed his display picture. I scrolled through his pictures like a souvenir, like trophies on the shelf. Watching as one by one his friends, beautiful girls commented on his pictures and he replied to each one of them nicely.

I honestly had no idea what I should do. I wanted to talk to him but I didn't want to come out as a bother. I wanted to ask him if he was still angry, but I didn't know I should.

'Did I say something that touched his borderline?'

Sometimes it was better for people to just clear what hurt them than stay silent. His weird behavior had led me to question my worth.

Why would he even want to talk to me, when he had those beautiful girls waiting for him to reply. I bet he just chatted with me only because he was bored.

I snap out of my thoughts when I hear Nina screaming my name. She opens her arms and wraps them around my body giving me a bear hug.

"I missed you, Jacky." I hug her back.

If there was anybody who was able to cheer me up in these last three days, it was Nina. Her cute actions and cheerful vibe around me were able to bring a smile to my face.

"But we just met yesterday." I look into her eyes and can see a flash of discomfort go through them.

She often told me how she didn't like to stay at Rohan's place and how she wished to stay with me at my place. A pang of sadness runs through me as I know I can't fulfill her wish. Neither do I want to let her know how fucked up my life at home is.

She pouted, "I know, But I just want you to stay with me always.". She responded softly then took out a pink lunchbox.

"This is for you. I made it myself, and I don't care how it tastes, but I want you to eat it anyway."

I chuckle lightly to myself at how quickly her mood changed.

"That's so sweet of you. Thank you, babe."

"Don't mention it. I know you have to go home early, but can we have ice cream before you leave today? I have to fill you up on some secrets."

Looking at her expectant face, I couldn't help myself to say yes.

"Yay. Let's eat then."

Rohan greeted Nina and me with a handshake which I avoided.

"Hello, girls."

Nina ignored him, but I responded softly.

"Hey."

"Where were you from the last three days?" The question left my mouth before I had the chance to even register it.

'I shouldn't have asked. He isn't even my friend!'

I thought he would retort to me with a sarcastic reply on how It's not my business. But he surprised me with a sincere answer.

"My father was hospitalized. I was busy taking care of him."

This is when I noticed the large dark circles around his eyes, the stubble. The depressing face like he had the world falling on his shoulders.

"Oh, I am so sorry, I didn't know. What happened to your father?"

"Heart-Attack. He is fine now though." He plops down on the chair next to me as I turn to see him. He bestows me with a half-smile. I thought to inquire more about his father but then let it slide. Nina said he hated sympathy more than anything.

"Thank God! Do let me know if I could be of any of your help."

Nina giggles and slap my arm playfully,

"Did you forget, he is your enemy?"

I look up peeking through my eyelashes to see Rohan smirking. I got trapped by his gaze and tried to look away but his mesmerizing gaze held me immobile.

Rohan is hot! Like the typical bad boy. Well-defined abs and muscles show through his plain white shirt and the way his chiseled jaw moves are sexy.

'Wait. Did his lips move?'

'But why didn't I hear anything!'

Nina flick my forehead lightly and I snap out of my thoughts.

"Is everything alright babe? Why are you spacing out every time I ask you a question?"

I smile sheepishly at her.

"Ooh. Little fatty can smile too. Have you ever seen a hippopotamus smiling?" I can hear Tina saying this to her friends as she walks past our table. And I hear her minions and Jocks laughing.

Now, this was such an odd comparison. I don't have the perfect body. I am chunky. In Our city, normal people might compare me with buffalo But comparing me to a hippo was over the top.

Her words made me angry. So many that I clench my fists and breathe through my mouth trying to keep it in.

"Shut up," Nina says through clenched teeth.

Tina stops for a second just before our table, flicks her hair back. "What are you going to do if I don't shut up? You bitch!" Bending down she spats at her face.

Nina remained silent for a moment. I thought maybe she didn't want to fight with her. But she winks at me to stay silent even though I didn't want to. I still kept mum.

"Hmph. seems like a cat got your tongue. Huh? Don't try to play the hero next time. I don't like people minding my business." She pinches Nina's nose and says smiling.

"And you! Hippo. We will meet again." She spats in my face before moving around the table.

I ignore her, just like Rohan who seems too busy On his phone than watching us.

She puts forward her leg and trips Tina. Her feet wobble and she falls straight on her face. Her nose kissed the ground.

'Fuck I just felt sorry for her nose.'

She shrieked as she tried to get up with difficulty. Blood flows through her nose and drips down onto her shirt which by the way she was wearing way too high. And she might have flashed her panties to the students who were a table away from us.
