Chapter 82: Chapter 82

"Mia," he called her name sharply, sending a shock down her spine. "Just lay here gently and wait for me. I'll be back," he said, turning his back to walk out of the room.

"Alex," Mia called, but there was no response.

The gammas were all fidgeting in the presence of Alex, unable to give a good explanation for the deaths of the ten wolves again.

"So now, you should all tell me, how did it happen? How could you let such a thing happen again even after much security?" he turned to the first person in front of him, awaiting an answer.

The room was filled with stifling silence; the gammas were all mute, unable to provide a good answer.

"Didn't I specifically tell you all to watch over the forest at night? And yes, here you are, standing in front of me to report their deaths."

"I'll make sure you all have a taste of this," he said, flicking his index finger at each of them.

"I'm giving you just a day, investigate what happened and bring the report of even the tiniest detail before the moon tomorrow," he said to the gammas who were already on tenterhooks.

"Yes, Alpha Alex," they all bowed their heads, waiting for his command to release them.

Alex's obsidian eyes went past each of them to see if there was any suspicious behavior, but found none.

"You can all go," he said after scrutinizing them with his eyes.

They all walked out of the house quietly, too afraid to make a sound that'd get them into trouble.

Alex walked back to the bedroom to meet Mia already asleep.

"Set the table; we'll be down in a while," he said to the maid outside the room.

"Yes, my Lord," she bowed curtly and turned to the kitchen.

"Mia," he held her hands in his, waking her up from sleep.

"Wake up, Mia. I'm done; let's go down to eat." Still tapping on her, she opened her eyes groggily.

"You're back," she said, sitting up on the bed.

"Mmm, I'm. I've asked a maid to set the table; let's go down to eat," he said, carrying her up from the bed.

"I'm fine, Alex. You don't need to carry me; I can walk on my own," Mia said in his arms.

"I insist on carrying you, Mia. You shouldn't have a problem with that," he argued back, still carrying her to the dining room.

Mia kept mute, feeling a blush crawl up her cheeks, accompanied by a fluttering heart.

The maids had laid out food on the table, and they just sat down to eat.

The table was silent, and only the sound of cutlery in the plate could be heard.

Mia finishes her food and turns to Alex, staring at him.

"Why are you staring at me like that, Mia?" he asked, munching on the last bit of food in his mouth.

"I know you're hiding the news about the deaths of another ten wolves, aren't you?" she asked.

"How did you know, Mia?" he responded back, surprised.

"It's easy, I linked my mind to yours and listened to your conversations with the gammas," she said back, taking a gulp of water.

His jaw slacked in surprise when he heard Mia's words.

"Alex, why don't you ask Hendrix for his say in the deaths of these wolves? Not only the gammas are responsible for their protection; Hendrix is also required to protect the wolves, just like you are," she added again, cutting him out of the trance he fell into.

"I'll ask him to report with the other gammas tomorrow for the investigation about what happened in the woods," he replied.

Mia nodded and stood up from the table.

"I need to use the restroom," she said, walking away.

"I'll be back in a while too, Mia. I need to do some investigations on my own," Alex said from the table.

"I'll come with you, Alex," she snapped and ran to him.

"You don't have to, Mia. It's not safe in the woods," he argued.

"I'm safe if I'm with you," she said, wanting to tell him about staying at home.

"Alright, I'll wait for you while you freshen up," he said and sat down in the chair.

Mia ran into the bedroom to take a bath and walked back to the dining table to meet Alex.

He was still seated in the same posture she had left him, without any changes.

"We can go now," she said, walking closer to him.

"Alright, let's leave," he said and walked out of the house with Mia beside him.

They both got into the woods at the scene of the death, looking for clues about who the killer might be.

No leads were found after much searching. The killings had been carefully planned, and there was no sign of struggle on the wolves.

"Let's go back, Mia; it's late," Alex said, holding her hands.

"We can still search, Alex; there might be some clues somewhere. Maybe we just missed out on it," she argued, unwilling to go.

"Mia, if there's anything or any clues, we would have found it. The gammas are going to be here tomorrow, so let's go; they're going to find whatever it is."

"Alright," she said and finally gave in to his words.

They headed back to the pack house to wait for the information from the gammas.

*************

The gammas were all in the symposium, waiting for Alex. Fear could be seen on their faces as they stood at attention, waiting for Alex.

"Good morning, Alpha Alex," they all greeted as he walked out to meet them.

"Keep your greetings to yourself. Give me what I asked you to find," he said, sitting down.

Nothing was brought out, which made Alex to clench his fists in annoyance, and they all stared at each other in fear.

"I said where's what I asked you to investigate?" He queried.

They trembled in fear, too afraid to talk.
