Chapter 57: Chapter 57
Alex was satisfied with the clue they already had, which meant they were steps closer to uncovering the truth, but then again, there was no harm in checking if there were more clues.
Him and the warriors searched the area for any other clues that might lead them to the kidnappers responsible for the abduction of Heartman and Nathalie. But despite their best efforts, they found nothing.
However, as they turned to leave, Caine stopped in his tracks and turned towards the bush close to him.
"What's the matter?" Alex asked
"I heard some rustling behind the bushes," Caine answered, walking slowly towards the bush.
Caine's senses were heightened, and he slowly drew his sword, ready for any unexpected attack.
A full brown-colored wolf emerged from the bushes and growled at Caine.
The wolf's eyes glowed with an intense yellow light, and its fur stood on end as it snarled at them. It turned around and took off.
Without hesitation, Caine charged towards the wolf, determined to catch it and find out what it was doing behind the bushes and if it had any connection to the kidnapping of Heartman and Nathalie.
The wolf turned and fought back since Caine wasn't in his wolf form yet. The brown wolf growled, biting and clawing at Caine with ferocity before running to save its life at the same time. The wolf was running deep into the forest, taking the same root as the kidnappers.
Caine suspected that the wolf was somehow connected to the kidnap because why would there be a wolf roaming around this part all alone without a pack? Even rogues moved in groups to go through this part.
Caine ran after the wolf, refusing to relent. The wolf turned, flashing its fangs and sneering at Caine to back off.
The wolf saw he wasn't backing down and prepared itself to flee, but Caine was no ordinary warrior. He ran side by side with the wolf. Cainw clawed at a tree, leapt and landed himself on the wolf's back, ridding it.
The wolf tried getting him off its back, but Caine was experienced at this.
He clawed down both hands on the wolf's arm, reducing its speed. Caine proceeded to claw at the side of the wolf's neck. It finally came to an abrupt stop and fell down on the ground, whining.
He was able to suppress the wolf's movements and held it captive.
Caine returned to where his pack was and emerged from the bushes with a full brown-coloured wolf in his grasp. The wolf struggled and fought against him, but Caine was stronger.
Looking at the full brown-colored wolf, who was eavesdropping on their conversation. The warriors wanted it to transform to its human form so that they could interrogate whosoever it was.
As they held the wolf captive, it began to transform. Its fur receded, its muzzle shortened, and soon it was a young woman who looked to be in her early twenties lying in their grasp.
Alex and the warriors interrogated her, demanding to know who she was and what she knew about the group and why she was eavesdropping on them.
Alex wrapped his fingers around her neck and pulled her to her feet.
"Who are you?" Alex demanded, his voice low and menacing.
The woman glared at him, defiance in her eyes. "I am no one to you," she spat. "Let me go."
Alex's grip tightened, and the woman winced in pain.
"Then what are you doing here? Why are you in this part? We need answers, now," he said, his tone brooking no argument.
The woman's eyes narrowed. "What makes you think I know anything?"
"We found you eavesdropping on our conversation. You must be connected to the kidnappers in some way," Alex interjected with the upward tilt of his mouth in distaste.
The woman sneered, "You have no proof."
Alex leaned in, his face inches from hers. "We don't need proof. We have you."
The woman's bravado faltered, and she looked away. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything you know," Alex seethed, releasing her neck.
The woman was disoriented. She refused to say anything, but after a few hours of intense questioning, the warriors noticed something strange.
The spy had the same mark with the kidnappers and was also wearing an arm band, carrying the same customized pack logo.
They called Alex's attention to it, and he was furious.
"I'll ask for the last time," Alex started, glaring at her. "Who are you?" Alex asked with lines of anger, creasing his forehead.
"I'm no one to you. Why am I being held captive by your men? I was just passing by. I know nothing of what's happening," the spy cried out.
Unknown to her, Alex and his warriors had already seen the pack's logo on her arm and back. They already knew who she was.
Seeing they weren't interested in leaving her alone, the spy pleaded with the Warriors to release her, insisting that she had nothing to do with the kidnappers.
"Please, I know nothing. I was just passing by, and I caught sight of you all. I thought you were rogues, so I hid behind the bushes to avoid being seen by you, " she cried out
However, the Warriors were sceptical and interrogated her for more information.
Alex, on the other hand, wasn't interested in her tears or moved by it.
He had feelings she was lying, and there was more to her being behind the bushes. He walked forward with Caine, and they tried to check for other clues.
But they still held her captive until they could gather more information about the kidnappers and their plans.
As they continued their journey, the Warriors and Alex kept a close eye on the spy, hoping that she could provide them with more clues about the kidnappers and their whereabouts. They knew that they were on the right track, and they were determined to succeed in their mission, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
