Chapter 33: Chapter 33

Alex Heartman

Alex sat in his study, deep in thoughts as he drilled holes into the pencil in his hand with his eyes.

His hair was messy because of how many times he had ran his hand through it.

He had been troubled these past days and the reason was quite obvious. The Red Moon killer and Mia.

He heard Hendrix before the knock.

"Come in," he instructed and Hendrix was already accustomed to Alex's heightened sense of hearing so he wasn't surprised.

He walked in slowly and greeted his Alpha.

Alex raised a questioning brow at him, silently ordering him to speak.

As Hendrix stood there in his usual black suit and a white inner, Alex finally took him in. He had been so distracted that he hadn't noticed how tired and aging the man had become.

Hendrix was looking quite pale and his vibrant smile was missing. His eyes seemed lost and worried.

He had had Hendrix by his side so long that he had taken the man for granted. When he hadn't found his beta, Hendrix had offered himself to him freely even if he was older and much more experienced than he was at barely eighteen.

Alex felt the need to respect the man much more than he did. After all, he had been very helpful.

Hendrix was a tall man and had the appearance of a warrior but he was very calm and submissive, leading to why Alex had kept him by his side all these years.

It was determined. He would cut Hendrix some slack.

"Go on," Alex instructed when the man kept hesitating.

Hendrix was intimidated with Alpha's inquisitive eyes which were piercing into his forehead. He couldn guess what the man was thinking.

"The humans," he swallowed when the Alpha raised another brow at him "They are coming for the gold trade deal."

Alex remained quiet for a while just staring at Hendrix as he shifted uncomfortably in his spot, shiftung toward the door a bit more in fear.

"I thought I told you to cancel it?" Alex asked calmly, reclining in his seat.

Hendrix wasn't deceived as he knew well enough that this was most likely the calm before the storm.

"You did but they were hell bent on coming, Sire."

"Hmm." Alex stroked his chin. He wasn't angry because he had heard them approach even before they got close to his kingdom. They were very noisy, insensitive and full of themselves.

Alex had never liked them so he never attended to them. His father always did. It was the first time in almost a month that he was finally thinking of the man.

"Tell the minister of works to attend to them," Alex instructed before returning his gaze back on the documents in front of him.

"Pero has gone on a leave this morning, your majesty." Hendrix announced, and when Alex gave him a death glare, he quickly added, "His wife just had a child."

His last sentence seemed to have calmed the Alpha's rising anger a bit.

"Then you do it," Alex said dismissively. He didn't like the humans and always felt the need to severe their heads from their bodies.

"I can't, Sire. It's my wolf's week." Hendrix objected calmly. Being in his wolf's week meant he could shift any moment if he was triggered.

Alex sighed in irritation. He would pardon him. After all, he decided to cut him some slack earlier.

"Where are they now?" Alex asked before standing to his full, intimidating height. He grabbed his purple scarf from his seat and wrapped it around his sweatshirt in a bid to save him from the raging cold outside.

Hendrix took in his appearance. He had on a sweatpant and sweatshirt. Hendrix thought he looked formidable, Alex wasn't in the right outfit for the meeting.

"In the garden, sire," Hendrix replied, still eyeing his outfit.

"Do you have something to say?"

Alex asked with a raised brow; something he had been doing aot lately. Alex knew exactly what Hendrix wanted to say, but just wanted to see if he'd dare.

"Nothing, your highness." Hendrix shook his head.

"Good, kead the way."

Alex moved elegantly behind a very intimated Hendrix as he hurried to the garden in a bid to get the hell out of the Alpha's presence as soon as he could.

When Alex and Hendrix reached the garden, the humans all stood there in awe at how beautiful it was. The flowers were well grown and were blossoming. The lilies were too and this wasn't their season. So how?

They were still talking about just how beautiful and rich the kingdom was when they all felt a very strong and formidable presence around them.

They were compelled even more than any werewolf to bow and they felt intimidated.

When Alex noticed this, he tried to reduce the energy flowing from him to avoid them collapsing out of exhaustion.

It worked as they all were finally able to stand in his presence. He knew they wouldn't think much of it as they were dumb and they proved him right.

"Your majesty..." An over enthusiastic, scrawny looking young man with glasses that almost covered half of his face stepped forward.

"It's really good to see you again. Im chairman, Lee." The young man said with his hand stretched forward for a handshake.

Alex knew they had never met before and knew exactly what he was playing at. Humans and their deception.

Alex ignored his hand and scanned the lot of them for anyone reasonable to talk with but they all looked dumb. The ladies were even shameless drooling all over themselves for him. It annoyed him to no end. They all looked like lost puppies and how his father was able to condone the sight of these things was beyond his comprehension.

"Who amongst you is your leader?" He asked and chairman Lee came a bit too close for comfort to Alex. Even going as far as taking his hand in his and shaking it.

Alex felt like crushing him but just settled for retrieving his hand from his feeble grip.

He suddenly could no longer blame the women with men as dumb as this he was surely a god to them.

"Can we go inside now?"

Chairman Lee inquired already trying to make his way past him.

Alex grabbed him by his collar like a little child and placed him back in his spot by his human friends to chairman Lee's shock.

"No one's entering my home. We stay here and have our meeting,"

Alex said sternly and Hendrix feared for a minute he would snap their leader's neck.
