Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Alex woke up very early that morning and returned to his room, from Mia's. He didn't want Mia to wake up and make him answer her numerous questions.

He still didn't know what the hell made him so angry the other day. He could have killed her.

And he most certainly didn't understand what happened with her. The bright light shining in her eyes from her chest, her palms, and the half moon sign on her forehead. All of them. Yet, intrigued him and he was gonna find out just what that sign meant and who she was.

How she had stopped the demon and sent it into hiding, surprised and amazed him the most.

He needed to know just how she was so powerful. What she yielded was out of this world.

His mind traveled back to the incident and he couldn't help but relive every moment of it.

The light from her chest had spread and consumed not just her, but also him. It exploded everywhere causing water to splash and for a moment Alex believed he was imagining it all. That was before she started drowning.

He still remembered how it had felt to almost lose her and Alex wished to never feel anything even a tad close to that feeling, ever again.

These past two days had been both tough and relaxing from him. Whenever he was in her presence, he had felt both worried and tired at the same time. He loved how at peace he was everytime he stayed in her room. He found it easy to sleep these days and with the time he spent in her presence, he was sure it was her doing.

She had said she didn't remember a thing and Alex believed her, hoping she wouldn't remember what happened in the water. He wasn't sure what he was trying to protect her from, but he knew he had to.

Alex ran his hand through his hair. He really needed to stop thinking about her, she was always on his mind and as much as it relaxed him to think of her, it also distracted him.

He was enjoying the feeling of enjoying another's presence, voice, laughter, lips, eyes... But he still didn't want to. He sighed heavily. They wouldn't last together and he didn't want to give her false hopes. Mia would be crushed when the demon finally took control.

Alex jumped to his feet and went to the bathroom for quick shower after his morning push ups. He needed to get out of his room before all he'd know was Mia.

He needed a distraction and all he could think of was the woods.

He mind-linked Hendrix to meet him up in the woods and Hendrix did. He needed to find the Red Moon killer and soon too because his people were losing their lives and loved ones. They'd already come to the assembly to cry to him to do something.

He couldn't help but feel weak and incapable.

"Go check over there," he instructed Hendrix "I'll check over here."

Hendrix obeyed with a small bow before going about his assigned duty.

He had noticed the Alpha was no longer as intimidating as he usually was and his aura was as strong as before. He pondered on why it was so for a while. He even seemed really distracted but he of all persons knew he wasn't. He just seemed so.

"Hendrix," Alex called from behind Hendrix.

Hendrix jumped in shock when he felt the Alpha close to him. He hadn't heard him approach and he was alert or so he had thought. He placed his palm on his chest in a bid to calm his racing heart.

Alex stared intensively at him before asking the question that had been on his mind since the incident at the river.

"Why wasn't I able to mind link you two days ago?" Alex watched him closely and saw panic flash through his eyes. As quickly as it had come, it was gone.

He was hiding something.

"I-I am sorry, Sire."  Hendrix apologized, offering the alpha a curt bow. "I was with Sara and we were-we were-" Hendrix struggled to explain that he was having sex with his wife and had blocked out every distraction but thankfully, Alex got the drill, saving him from the embarrassing situation.

"That's fine." Alex shut him up, noticing how crimson Hendrix had turned. "Be more conscious next time," he instructed sternly.

Hendrix nodded in agreement, his head still bowed in respect or fear, Alex couldn't tell.

"Did any..." Hendrix started, curiously. The Alpha had never called on him so abruptly like that.

"Doesn't matter," Alex was quick to end the subject. "Get back to work."

Alex walked back to searching the area absent mindedly.

••••••••••••

The search had been really futile and a big waste of Alex's time as he still spent the majority of the time thinking about Mia and he still didn't get any leads.

He was on his way to see the seer of the Crystal Moon Pack.

He would have summoned her, but be didn't as he didn't need gossips flying around.

The woman lived on the outskirts of the pack, alone. She had no mate, and no child. She was a lone wolf cursed to live her whole existence alone.

Alex had believed he'd end up just like her, and had accepted his fate. That was however, before he met Mia.

Shit.

He was doing it again. Alex ran his hand through his hair for the umpteenth time that day. He really needed to stop thinking about her.

He entered the small tent built for the old lady and sat on the free stool, waiting for her to observe his presence as she worshipped by her small alter, the goddess of the moon.

Alex didn't like the goddess much and never came here 'cause all she had caused him was pain and sorrow.

"Alpha Alexander Heartman of the Crystal Moon Pack, to what do I hold your formidable presence in my mini shrine?"

She didn't even bother turning to him and he could hear the smirk in her tone.

"Cut the crap, Abel," Alex retorted, making Abel chuckle to herself. He was still as arrogant as before. "I have questions that I need answers to right now."

She finally glanced over her shoulder at him and Alex noticed that she had aged considerably more for a werewolf. Loneliness was indeed a bad thing and for the first time in his life, he was glad to have Mia.

"You want to know about your mate's mark. Don't you, son?"

She gave him a smile that annoyed Alex to no end.

"Don't call me that and stop smiling in triumph. You're a seer, knowing my thoughts is nothing special," Alex retorted again, feeling his patience fading.

She studied him quietly and when she still wasn't saying anything, he got up in anger and made to leave.

"It's called a Mundara. The sign on he head is called a Mundara"

Alex stopped in his tracks as he listened attentive to Abel.

"A long long time ago..."
