Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Edwin drew a chair out, sitting across Jessica with a furrowed brow.
" Why will she react to his touch that way? All she does is give me a nonchalant attitude and here she was blushing because of a simple touch," Edwin ranted to himself.
" Are you okay, sir," Jessica asked, looking at Edwin, who was murmuring to himself.
" Yes, I am fine. Have you known him before?" Edwin asked, looking at her as his voice was laced with hidden jealousy.
" Gary? Of course not. We met here. I am thankful he helped me earlier or else I would have been so embarrassed," Jessica explained, smiling at the mention of Gary. She was indeed grateful to him.
Edwin frowned at her words. When did Gary save her from embarrassment? He wanted to ask her but he felt that if he did, she would think he was too busy flirting to even take notice of her.
"Why can't I just let off those beauties till I get her? Arrrggg! They are just too tempting," he grumbled to himself before looking at Jessica.
Jessica who was still reeling in the euphoria of her savior did not take notice of him or his murmurs.
" You should try to avoid him, he doesn't have good intentions," Edwin said, ordering for a wine.
" Who is he?" Jessica asked, looking lost.
" You don't know Gary Anderson? Where have you been living all your life?" Edwin chuckled.
" I don't know him…" Jessica trilled off.
"Same way you don't know me and you called me a pervert. You even slapped me!" Edwin exclaimed.
" I am so-or-ry, I don't mean to do that," Jessica slurred, as she hid her face from Edwin.
" You don't have to be sorry. I shouldn't talk to you like that at first. I was the one being rude at first and you just set me right by that slap. I am sorry," Edwin said, with a smile on his face.
Edwin looked at her only to see her looking at him, shocked. Deep down he knew he was slowly working his way into her heart and she would all be his, soon.
"This place is boring. Should we go to the club?" Edwin asked, looking at Jessica.
Jessica couldn't believe her ear and was surprised at Edwin's request. First, he apologized for being rude and now he's asking him to go to the club with him.
" Should we? " Edwin asked again.
" Yes, we can," Jessica answered without thinking twice. It's been a long time since she visited a high class club or even been taken out.
Oh! She only worked at a bar and not a club though.
The two stood up as they walked away from the hall, heading toward the elevator. Being familiar with the hotel already, Edwin took to the fourth floor with Jessica.
Entering the club, Edwin held her hand as they walked to the VIP section. They took their seats while waiting for the waitress. After a few minutes, the waitress came around to take their order.
" What do you like to take," Edwin asked Jessica, looking into her eyes.
" I am okay with anything you take," Jessica said, her eyes fixed on no one in particular. It's been a long time and she wasn't familiar with those drinks anymore.
" Are you sure? " Edwin asked to ascertain her request.
" Yes, I'm sure," she responded.
Edwin orders two bottles of liquor to the table. He added a bottle of vodka to step on it. After five minutes, the waitress was around with their drinks. She opened it and left immediately.
Edwin served himself and Jessica and then they started sipping their wine silently. Seeing how silent everything was, Edwin decided to start a conversation with Jessica.
" So what did you do after you graduated from university? Edwin asked as he continued sipping his drink.
" I started working at the coffee shop and with another part-time job," Jessica answered.
"So you are always busy, are you not on social media? " Edwin asked.
" No, I only use WhatsApp," Jessica responded.
Jessica does use social media before, even her favorite was Instagram, but after her family's bankruptcy. She deleted her account after she couldn't take all the hard comments on her page.
" Now I see why you couldn't recognize me or Gary," Edwin said, bringing out her phone.
He unlocked it and gave it to Jessica to check Gary Anderson on google. Jessica was reluctant at first, but since Edwin insisted, she collected the phone and typed ' Gary Anderson'.
Jessica couldn't stop smiling after all the posts she read.
" Wow, now I know why you don't want me to talk to him," Jessica said, smiling.
" You two are tough, but you are tougher," Jessica blurted out.
" I know he talked to you to get information about tomorrow's bidding," Edwin chuckled.
" Hmmm, that's cheating," Jessica responded.
The two continue having their drink and they keep chatting. Seeing Jessica serving herself again, Edwin quickly cautioned her but it was late already.
" You should stop drinking, we have a lot to do tomorrow, let's proceed back to the suite," Edwin suggested.
" I am-am ok-okay," Jessica slurred.
" I am a good drinker you know ah ah ah," Jessica said, laughing at Edwin.
" Hmmm, I can see how good you are," Edwin jokes, standing up from his seat.
"Let's go inside," Edwin said in a calm voice.
" No, you can go, I will sleep here. This place is nice," Jessica ranted, holding the glass of wine tightly as her eyes tried to stay open.
" But we have to work tonight on the laptop," Edwin said, trying to get Jessica up.
" Ohh that's true, let me get my shoe," Jessica said, as she staggered while trying to stand up.
Jessica was busy looking everywhere for her shoe while murmuring. Edwin was smiling at the drunk lady who was busy looking for the shoes that are right on her legs.
" Let's go," Edwin said, as she tried to hold Jessica's hand.
" I am still looking for my shoes," She said, refusing to budge from there.
" They are on your legs," Edwin replied with a smile.
" Uh? Ha!" She said, looking down at the shoes before throwing a smile at Edwin.
" Are you this cute when you are drunk?" Edwin asked, grinning.
" Pervert?" Jessica shouted.
" Seriously again, really! Do you only see me as a pervert? You were busy flirting with Gary all night but I am a pervert to you?" Edwin asked, looking at the drunk girl with disbelief.
" But you were busy cuddling a girl too," Jessica responded, as she faced Edwin, holding his cheeks with her hands.
"Ouuch!!!" Edwin shouted as his cheeks heated up in pain yet Jessica kept holding it strongly.
" Is this revenge now?" Edwin questioned her.
" Just go, I will sleep here," Jesica said, sitting down.
"Common, let's go," Edwin said, walking towards her.
" I am not going," Jessica said, crossing her chest with her arms. She was as stubborn as a mule and the only option left is to carry her.
Edwin has no other choice than to carry her, after struggling for a few minutes, Jessica later allows him to carry her while she murmurs to herself.
Edwin walked out of the club as he carried Jessica towards their hotel suite. He walked to the elevator and pressed the button. Entering the elevator, he was faced with Gary.
" Why did you get her drunk? Gary questioned Edwin.
" First, I didn't get her drunk, and two, It's not your fucking business, she's my secretary, so fuck off," Edwin yelled.
Arriving at his floor, Edwin walked out of the elevator, giving Gary a defensive look.
He entered the suite and walked to Jessica's room. Dropping her gently on the bed. He removed her shoe and placed her under the blanket.
Edwin walked to his room to check for a drug she can use in the morning to avoid headaches, he dropped it on her bedside with a bottle of water and went to his room.
He kept smiling to himself at her cute reaction in her drunken state.
"She looks so cute and innocent," he said, going into his bathroom to freshen up. He was so tired from the events of the day.
