Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Walking down the stairs with Edwin by her side, all eyes were on them. She knew the dress fits her but she was surprised at the way people were staring at her in the hall. She bit hard on her lips and she stared into space.

Looking at the number of people in the hall and their dresses, Jessica looked at her gown again and was happy. She was grateful to Edwin for making her the envy of many people. Although he might be perverted, he was truly a gentleman.

Somehow her heart was becoming warm just thinking about him. If he was just that usual boss, he would have not mind taking her here dressed in her work clothes. It would have been so embarrassing to her.

Her black gown with beaded plugging back makes her look outstanding in the hall. It shimmered as she moved around and the girls couldn't help being envious of her.

It wasn't just the girls alone, even Edwin couldn't stop staring at her. He glanced at her briefly before looking around the hall to check for a vacant seat for them.

Not long he saw one and he walked towards it with Jessica by his side.

" You can sit here. I want to say hello to some business partners," Edwin voiced, smiling at Jessica.

" Okay, sir, "Jessica said as she sat, smiled, and nodded her head.

Beneath the table, her hand touched the delicate silk evening gown while her state Portofino heels tapped a rapid rhythm.

Glancing through the hall, he saw Edwin chatting with a few people and a lady in a red gown with a curvy shape beside him, holding his hand firmly.

Jessica quickly glanced sideways as she noticed Edwin's eyes on her. She knew he would always be who he was. Why can't he just make do without a woman just for this business meeting? Jessica kept pondering.

Feeling bored already, Jessica stood up to get herself a glass of wine from the servers in uniform. She walked towards one of them, picked up a glass and her eyes glanced back to Edwin.

She was surprised that Edwin was also looking at her. Their eyes met again and he winked at her. Feeling flustered, she tried to look away and at the same time move away from his sight.

But she didn't expect the next thing that happened to her.

Jessica was too flustered that she stepped on the tail of her gown but strong arms quickly rescued her from embracing herself. She felt her heart pounding as the hands held her in a tight embrace.

She wondered how he was able to get to her so fast.

" Why am I feeling this way toward this pervert?" Jessica asked herself, as she looked back to the face of the strong arm that just rescued her.

She frowned seeing it was someone else. She felt a little disappointed. She knew it was impossible for him to come to her so quickly. But who was this young man?

" Are you okay?" The voice asked, sounding very caring.

" I am okay, thank you" Jessica responded, as she avoided eye contact with him.

" I am Gary Anderson," The man introduced himself, smiling at the shy Jessica.

" I am Jessica Graves," she said, darting her eyes around.

" Are you here for the bidding too?" Gary asked, with his gaze fixed on Jessica.

Jessica smiled at herself hearing his question."No, I am here with my boss, Edwin Turner. I am his secretary," Jessica replied, with a smile on her face.

" Edwin Turner? I never saw you before with him," Gray replied with wide eyes.

" Yes, I started working there a few weeks ago," Jessica responded.

"Ohh, that's good," Gary responded, smiling faintly.

Seeing Jessica looking uncomfortable with her holding the hem of her gown with her hand, Gary suggested they have their seat while they talked.

Gary couldn't take his eyes off Jessica as soon as he saw her. She came to the hall with Edwin Turner and thought she must be one of his toys since Edwin was popular among girls.

But after seeing Edwin with another girl, cuddling in the hall and he caught Jessica's reaction, he knew something was off.

When he saw Jessica almost fall after she stepped on her gown, he couldn't explain why he was eager to help her despite seeing her with Edwin.

Gary Anderson was one of Edwin's biggest competitors, the two were known for their business rivals ever since Edwin took over as the new CEO of Turner's Enterprise two years ago.

Edwin was always a foot ahead of Gary and Gary had always despised him or anything close to him. But tonight, he couldn't take his eyes off Jessica ever since she came into the hall. She was a kind of irresistible beauty that had men hooked to her even without doing anything.

Unlike those other women, she was putting on light make-up and she looked so elegant even when just standing doing nothing. He wondered if she had a wealthy background. But then he would have known her.

" So Jessica, do you enjoy working with him as his secretary?" Gary asked as he leaned back to whisper to her.

He watched as she scrunched up her face before she answered. Was it that she didn't enjoy it? That was unheard of! All the ladies by Edwin's side always stick like glue on him.

" Yes I do and_" Jessica tried to say.

" If you don't, I don't mind having you as my secretary, and ready to double the pay," Gary cut her off.

" I do like my job in Turner's group and thanks_"

Edwin, who was busy having a nice time with one of his numerous girlfriends, kept looking at Jessica since the time she had been talking to Gary. He saw that she didn't mind chatting with Gary no

" She can call me a pervert but flirt with Gary!" Edwin fumed.

" Can't she see he was trying to get under her skirt"

He walked away from the girl he was having an intimate session with and interrupted Jessica who was talking to Gary.

" And why will you be talking to my secretary behind my back?" Edwin said authoritatively.

" Hello Edwin, how are you?" Gary greeted, moving his hand forward for a handshake.

" The last I checked, we aren't close enough for you to ask 'how am I doing, or even greet me" Edwin said, with a raised brow.

Gary smiled as he put his hand in his pocket.

" See you later Jessica," Gary said, as he touched Jessica's back with a smile on his face.

" Alright thanks again, " Jessica said as she played with her hair.

Seeing the furious look on Edwin's face, he smiled smugly before walking away.
