Chapter 118: Chapter 118
Edwin was recovering really fast, and Jessica was happy being around him. Being around him and the kids together made her feel like a wife.
She would prepare breakfast in the morning, bathe the kids, feed them, and prepare them for school. Sometimes, Angela came to pick them up. Sometimes, she took them herself.
Levi had been discharged but he was still recovering from the internal injuries. Jessica continued paying him because he had only entered that state because of the kids.
Friday before the weekend, Edwin watched Jessica perform all her duties and his heart fluttered. He couldn't take his mind off the fact that she cared about him enough to stay beside him in the hospital, refusing to let him be touched by anyone else except her. She even learned to clean his wounds just so that she could take complete care of him.
"Why are you staring at me?" Jessica inquired. They were alone at home.
"Isn't it time to change my bandages? I've bathed and they have not changed for three days already."
Jessica eyed him discreetly. Edwin seemed to be gaining weight and his skin was returning to its normal color. He looked too handsome to overlook and being around him made her heartbeat pick up the pace. She was falling for him all over again.
"Jessica.." Edwin called softly. "Can we talk?"
Jessica rinsed her hand and wiped it on the apron she wore. Then she took it off.
"Have you eaten, Edwin?" She asked as she got closer. Edwin pulled her closer with his right hand. She lost her balance and crashed into him.
"Edwin! Stop playing around!" She scolded as she got up. "What are you trying to achieve by pulling me? Do you want to injure yourself?"
"Jessica, come and clean my injury. I want to know how well I have healed." Edwin whined. Jessica sighed.
"Alright. Lie down." She ordered. Edwin grinned as he obeyed her. Jessica went to get the first aid box where she kept the materials the hospital had given her.
After unwrapping the bandage, she saw that the injury had been covered up properly.
"I think we need to return to the hospital for the stitches to be removed."
"Oh, cool. Then we can go out tomorrow." Edwin stated happily. "Four of us. We can go for a picnic at the park.. or a garden.. anywhere of your choice."
Jessica stared at him. Why did he suddenly want to go out? He had been comfortable with just being at home, what changed?
"Alright. Let's have the bandage changed before the kids return from school then. We can prepare for the picnic tomorrow." Jessica said with a shrug.
Edwin smiled. Once she went inside to prepare, he sent a text message to Roy.
By Saturday morning, Jessica had a jittery feeling in her stomach that she couldn't ignore. Her instincts were telling her that Edwin was up to something, but she couldn't place her finger on what it was.
She went to prepare the children for their outing. They were so excited they couldn't even eat. Jessica had to pack their breakfast along with the lunch they had planned.
Together they went out. Since Edwin had taken out the stitches, he could freely move his arm without being afraid that there would be any bleeding. Despite that, Jessica still demanded to drive.
Edwin had to allow her since she began threatening him nicely.
Abby and Gabby enjoyed their time in the park. They first had breakfast with their both parents, feeling very happy and loved. After eating, they lay around for a while, listening to Edwin tell them stories from his childhood. After a while, they got bored and had to leave. The two of them began to run around the park. There were other kids their age so finding interest wasn't hard for them at all.
"Hey, I think I left something in the car," Edwin said, turning around. Jessica was up and ready to get it for him.
"What's that? What did you leave?"
"I can't say if I left it, let me search around first." He said. He began searching his pocket and gradually got to one knee as if he was trying to get up. Jessica hadn't understood what was going on yet. Not until he took out the ring from his pocket. Jessica watched him with slight amusement in her eyes. What was she up to?
"Jessie… I don't know how to apologize for what I did to you earlier. I don't know how many stories that can be enough to right the wrong I did."
"I also do know that I'm not perfect, hell I don't know how to love you rightly. I don't know if I can get a shot at loving you rightly."
"I want to tell you that I love you. Jessica, I never stopped loving you. I could never stop loving you. Those six years without you were the worst in my entire life. And these few days with you were the best in my life."
"More than this, I also want to give my kids the complete family love which they deserve, and I don't mind living the rest of my life repaying you for the heartbreak I caused."
"Jessica, for the sake of the love we shared, the kids we have, and the love I have for you, the love I'm willing to share with you, will you marry me? Will you be my wife, Jessica? Let's make a complete family."
Jessica didn't know when she began to feel emotional. She didn't cry, but her eyes did show traces of tears.
Stretching out her hand to him, she nodded slightly.
Edwin placed the ring on her finger and the people who had gathered around them, watching the scene, began to clap and cheer for them.
"Yayy! Mommy and Daddy are getting married!" Gabby cheered. Abby squealed happily, running around the garden.
"Am I now man enough?" Edwin asked Gabby.
"Yes, daddy! You got mommy!" Gabby exclaimed. Jessica watched the two talk about her as if she wasn't there.
