Chapter 115: Chapter 115

Once they arrived at the hospital, Jessica watched as the nurses ran out with a stretcher where they carefully placed Edwin. They wheeled him directly into the theater to prepare him for the operation. Jessica was invited in by the doctor before the operation could commence.

"Miss, I just want you to sign the documents for the operation and perform the transfer of funds." The doctor said, "There's no need to ask if you want it to be carried out because I can see that you will do anything to save your husband."

Jessica tore a check from her checkbook in her purse and signed it. "Here, fill in the amount that covers the entire treatment. I just want him to be fine."

The doctor collected the check and the signed paper from her. He ushered her to the waiting room while he went in to perform the surgery.

Jessica didn't sit. She was pacing the hallway to and fro. Occasionally, she would make a silent prayer for his safety. Then she would sigh and begin to cry all over again. Her heart was buried deeply in sorrow that she didn't know when her phone rang up to ten times. When she eventually sat, she heard it ring. She took it out, it was Angela.

"Angie.." she sobbed. "Angie, Edwin is dying. He is being operated on. I can't lose him."

"Calm down babe. Calm down. Don't say anything negative okay? Edwin is a fighter. He loves you, he won't die." Angela said. "Do you think he would just die after meeting you and his kids? After making efforts to make everything work? You think he would just leave you and Abby and Gabby and just die?"

"I don't know, Angie." Jessica cried. "I can't lose him."

Angela sighed. "He will be fine. I heard the kids are at your parent's place."

"Yeah. I had to send them there. I didn't know if you were at home or not." Jessica said softly, wiping her tears.

"Okay. I want to take their clothes and school materials there too."

"Angie, do you think they should go to school?" Jessica asked slowly.

"They should. Keeping them at home will just make them worry about you the most. We can allow them to stay a few days so they can overcome the kidnapping and everything. Maybe when he is awake, they can come to see him and they can resume school." Angela said.

"Okay. Okay. I hope he wakes up early too. The operation is still on." Jessica said, glancing at the red light that was steady on over the theater room door.

"What about Levi? Have you checked on him?" Angela asked. "Should I check on him for you? At least let it not seem like we all forgot about him."

"I haven't checked on him yet. But yes, you can do that for me. Thanks, Angie!" Jessica said gratefully. It was at times like this that she was extra grateful to have Angela beside her.

"Nah. What are friends for?"

They ended the call. Right then, the red light turned green and Edwin was wheeled out of the operation room. He had a bandage across his chest. Jessica stood up, watching as he was taken into a private ward. She grabbed her purse and followed them.

They set everything to ensure he was comfortable and would be for a long time. Once they finished, they all left. Only Jessica was in the room with him.

The surgery was successful. She sat down beside him, staring at his pale skin. His face looked sunken as if he had lost a lot of weight within a few hours. She rubbed his cheek softly. Her eyes welled up with tears again.

Jessica took care of Edwin in the hospital after his operation. He needed a lot of care and attention. Jessica was always by his side to make sure he was comfortable and felt loved even in his unconscious state. She did everything for him, even when she was exhausted.

Two days later, Edwin hadn't woken up. Jessica had been the one cleaning him up. She wouldn't let any nurse touch him. They taught her the things to do, and how to take care of him. Eventually, she learned how to change his bandages, clean his wounds and perform every other duty. The only thing the medics did was to ensure he was recovering well.
