Chapter 107: Chapter 107
Lolita held the test results in her hand. She placed them on her chest. She had a small smile on her face, it looked too wry to belong to someone who had just found out she was pregnant.
She returned to her apartment from the hospital. She wasn't calm at all, finding out that she was pregnant had made her unnerved. She didn't know what to do.
Recently, her boyfriend had been ignoring her and avoiding her in general. Tapping the envelope to her chin, she sighed again. There was no harm in telling him at all. As a matter of fact, she had to tell him. It was his child after all. After making her resolution, she grabbed her phone and dialed his number. He didn't pick up at first. Usually, when he did that, she would relax and he would call her back when he was free. But now, she knew she had to get him. So she kept on calling until Gary had enough and answered the call.
"What is the matter, Lolita? I'm busy, it's working hours!"
"I need to see you, Gary." She said calmly. "There's something I wish to discuss with you."
Gary was actually not busy. He was just in his office, thinking about ways to get Jessica to become his when his girlfriend called. Sometimes, he forgot he even had a girlfriend. If she was coming to say she was fed up, he wasn't going to beg her at all. No, he was going to allow her to say what she wanted and leave even if she wanted to.
He phoned his secretary.
"Good day sir." She greeted.
"Yeah, Lolita is coming over. Bring her in once she arrives. Make it as discreet as possible."
"Alright, sir."
He dropped the telephone. He rubbed his temples together. What was it that she couldn't even say over the phone? He sighed deeply.
Not even up to thirty minutes later, Lolita was ushered into the office. She was dressed so elegantly and she looked serious as well. Gary could feel his heart thump a little. Was she really going to break up with him? He would be happy.
"Lolita, how are you?" He asked calmly, offering her a lazy smile.
"So you do care about my well being." She stated. "I could have sworn that I meant nothing to you anymore."
Gary exhaled tiredly. "We have been through this, Lolita. Do not start again."
Lolita glared at him, her eyes became teary instantly. "I really mean nothing to you? I want to see how cocky you would be when you find out."
"Find out what exactly?" Gary asked with a sly smirk. Lolita slammed the envelope on his desk and pushed it toward him. Gary eyes her warily and then shifts his gaze to the flat paper that lay on his table. Slowly, he reached out for it.
He opened the envelope and took the paper out. The earlier anxiety he had felt returned in full force. He opened the paper. It had the heading of a well known hospital.
He stared at her, then he moved his gaze back to the letter.
His eyes moved left to right to left to right and after a few minutes of reading and rereading, he finally stopped. He squeezed the paper shut and glared at her.
"What is the meaning of this?!" He demanded. "You're pregnant?"
Lolita smiled wryly. "You have read it for yourself, yet you ask."
"Who is the father?" He demanded. "Have you been cheating on me, Lolita?"
Lolita's smile turned sour instantly. Her face became grim. "How can you accuse me of cheating? You're the one who hasn't called to check on me in days! Gary, the child is yours!"
Gary scoffed. "Yeah, there's no way that thing in there is mine. Leave my office." He ordered. "And don't ever return before me until you figure out who the father of the child is."
Lolita sprang up from her seat, teary eyed. "Gary! Oh my goodness! How can you say such a thing? It's because of her right? Jessica. You deny our child all because of another woman who couldn't care less about you!"
Gary scowled. "Leave."
Lolita sobbed. She pranced out of the office angrily. Her heart was breaking with every step she took out without being called back. She gave her all to Gary only to have it being trampled upon and returned to her.
She left Gary's office and drove straight to Jessica's company. She demanded to see Jessica but the receptionist refused her entrance since she was unknown. While still battling with the lady at the desk, Jessica walked into the company.
"Woah woah, what's going on here?" Jessica demanded. Turning to see the other lady, her expression morphed into one of surprise. "Lolita?"
"Hey," Lolita said with a small smile. "I came to see you."
"Let's head out," Jessica said. She took Lolita to a nearby cafe where they both sat opposite each other, staring at each other.
"What's up? You don't look fine." Jessica said. "Did you and Gary have a fight? I've always asked him about you but he seems to dodge the question."
"Of course he would. That sly punk." She cursed. "I'm pregnant for him."
"Wow! That's good news, have you told him?" Jessica asked happily.
"Yeah." Lolita nodded. "He refuses to acknowledge the child as his."
Jessica's smile vanished. "What the hell? Why would he do that? Did you ever have anything to do with anyone else?"
"No! Never!" Lolita gasped. "He doesn't want to accept me because… he is in love with you."
Jessica was taken aback. "Me?" She asked, pointing to herself. "Gary is in love with me?"
Lolita nodded, teary eyed. "He might as well want to end our relationship because he wants to chase you. You have to do something."
Jessica picked up her phone and dialed his number instantly.
"Hello?" Gary answered almost immediately. His voice sounded very hopeful and happy.
"Look, I heard what happened between you and Lolita." Jessica began.
"Jessica I-"
"No, Gary. Listen, I want you to know that I'm still in love with Edwin. And as much as I appreciate you for everything you did for us, I don't feel anything for you."
Gary was mute. His heart filled with sadness. Before he could say anything, she cut the call. Bowing his head, he turned around. He was about to pay her a visit at work when she called. Hearing what she said, he turned back and walked away.
