Chapter 38: Chapter 38
Vad’s Point of View
“Get one unbroken sheet of paper and answer the following questions on the board. You have 30 seconds to answer each item. You have 25 minutes to answer everything. One glance at your seatmate and you’re going out of this room. You know the rules. Ready or not, the timer starts now.”
I crossed my arms while leaning my back against the wall. The students concentrated on their papers, making no noise. They fixed their eyes on the blackboard and on their empty sheets. They’re well aware of how I conduct punishments if they make one wrong move, and it wouldn’t be a splendid memory for them.
It’s been three years. If you’re wondering what the great Vad Wagner was doing in a university, it’s simple. They assigned me to do undercover and catch the one who’s responsible for the missing students recently.
A sound disturbed everyone’s focus. I immediately went out to answer the phone call. I need not to worry about their tricks of cheating because they know I had put hidden cameras around the room. They can’t outsmart me.
“Honey, what time are you coming home?” she asked.
“I’m not sure about that. Just pray that I’ll catch the culprit today,” I replied.
“I miss you already. Can’t you spare me some time?”
I bit my lower lip and smiled.
“Stop sounding so needy. I might just resign right now. Do you want that?”
She sighed.
“I’ll be there soon. Hang on for another day, will you?”
“I can’t believe I married a man without a hint of sweetness in his blood.”
“Do we really have to talk about my genes at this moment? Come on, you know I’m willing to stop this mess so I can be with you. My spermatozoa are also excited to meet your gametes. You know how much I’m craving to create a new set of chromosomes with you.”
“Oh, shut up,” she chuckled.
Maybe you’re thinking who my lucky wife is. I know it sounds funny. How the hell did Vad become a husband when he despised the thought of love? How did a cold-hearted man offer himself to a woman? Isn’t it absurd? To tell you honestly, I had the same questions.
I woke up one day feeling empty. A part of my soul was lost, like I had been through something I couldn’t remember. I had nightmares of being alone on an island. Every time I took a shower, I could hear voices. A girl’s voice dominated my mind, and there’s also a man’s voice sometimes.
Those voices changed a part of me. I kept on hearing them before I turned into a professor. When I saw Frea after waking up, I heard a man’s voice who says, “Do you know that we only fall in love once in a lifetime? I don’t know the science behind such a weird cycle. We also fall in love a million times, but with the same person.” My head hurts every time I hear them. But oddly changed the way I look at her.
It wasn’t easy because the time I chased her was the time she had no interest in me anymore. I bugged her for two years before she fell into my trap and married me. The worst part was I don’t know how to court or flirt. How am I supposed to know? Don’t even try to imagine how I made her say yes. I have never been so ashamed like that.
It wasn’t one of my dreams to wear a tuxedo while waiting at the altar, but when it happened, I didn’t want to take it off. Even God would wink at me for making such a life-changing decision. I vowed to myself not to get married, but on the day of my wedding, I vowed to love her even if it means serving her in my entire life. Isn’t it ironic? My vow was like this:
Dear Frea,
I promise to love you like I have never known love before. A love that even my alter ego would be jealous of. I’ve never imagined that I would fall into someone else’s charm aside from my own. The day you rejected me was the day I had put aside the most priceless thing I owned — my pride. With that, you owe me one. You make my days feel like it’s winter and my nights like summer. Now, you have given me the most challenging mission I never thought of being a part of — The Bullied Husbands’ Club. I know it’s unfortunate, but I’m willing to be one if it’s under your power.
The crowd went on laughing after my last line like it’s something funny when I was being serious and nervous at the same time.
“I now pronounce you… Mr. and Mrs. Valente Ameer Donovan Wagner.”
I thought I would never hear such a line. But miracles happen.
It was already 5:00 pm, and the university was almost empty. I locked the door of my office and went out of the gate. The dark slowly crept as I walked down the street alone.
I was about to take a shortcut along an alley when I heard a scream. I narrowed my eyes as I sneaked through the wall. A man was choking on a girl’s neck. She was a student at the university, still wearing a school uniform.
The man was wearing a black hoodie, cap, and mask. The one you’d be suspicious about but safe from CCTV cameras. He grabbed the knife and aimed to stab her in her stomach. But I caught it with my hand. Blood dripped from my hand as I tightened my grip. I punched his abdomen, but he was tough. I stepped back and prepared my stance before I threw a flying kick straight to his face.
His body landed on the ground. I turned my gaze to the victim.
“Professor…”
“Are you alright, Kylo?”
She suddenly hugged me.
“Thank you for saving me. My dreams seem to come true,” she said as she sniffed.
I held her shoulders and gently pushed her away from me.
“It’s alright. Don’t worry. It will be over.”
A screech made us look at the entrance of the alley. A black car blocked our way. Its doors opened, and some guys came out. There were six of them. They have tattoos all over their body and some piercings.
“Who did this to our brother? Did you?” the guy with sunglasses asked me.
“What if I did?” I replied while removing my polo and tying it around my wounded hand.
“Then you’ve got some problems.”
He took a step closer to me, but before he could attack me, someone jumped from the rooftop towards him. She did some crazy stunts which made him lay down unconscious within 5 seconds. It was too fast that my eyes didn’t grasp what happened.
“What the hell?” I uttered.
It was a woman wearing black boots with 3 inches heels, and a black jumpsuit with straps and buckles fitted on her sexy vital statistics. She stood up and stared at me.
“How dare you not miss me,” she said.
Before I knew it, she jumped towards me and wrapped her legs around my waist. I was dumbfounded but could kiss her back amidst her torrid kisses like it’s her first time.
“It’s too early for your dinner, hon,” I whispered while gasping for air.
“You’re always late for my cravings,” she replied.
I turned around and as I did; she kicked the faces of the bad guys. I freed her from my arms and let her do her thing. It was such entertainment watching her beat their ass. As a husband, I wasn’t worried because I know she could handle them without my help. She’s a former assassin, for Pete’s sake. I should worry about my life in her hands instead.
