Chapter 36: Chapter 36

I never thought the day would come that I’d look for a man suited for my daughter. If I were to decide, I would let no man touch her. But my time as her father was limited. It was the only opportunity I had to test whether Treyton was worthy of her.

I packed my things and went to school while Kylo and her mother stayed home. Her Mom applied for a temporary leave so she could bond with me after school. It was also a chance for Kylo to interrogate her Mom and know the truth.

The students stared at me as I walked down the corridor. I didn’t have the strength to look good in front of them. They could feel the low energy inside of me as I heard their gossips.

“What’s wrong with her?”

“She was missing for 3 weeks.”

“They thought she’s dead. She’s so creepy.”

I paused for a moment and looked at them. My keen eyes pierced through them as I walked closer to the three girls talking about me. They wore thick makeup with girly headbands.

“Do you know what’s more creepy? If I pluck your eyes and cut your tongue,” I whispered with a sinister look on my face.

Their mouth parted as they screamed and ran away from me. I smirked and shook my head in satisfaction. The demon has left my body, yet I remained evil.

My smile vanished when someone suddenly grabbed my bag. I turned around and threw a flying kick. His face wriggled before his body touched the floor. His lips bled as he groaned in pain.

“There you are, Treyton,” I said.

He stood up and gazed at me with weary eyes.

“My apologies. I didn’t see you coming. What were you trying to do?”

“I was just trying to carry your bag,” he said while touching his wound.

“Why? Do you think I’m weak? Do you think it’s a burden for me?”

“No. I mean I haven’t seen you in a while so I was excited to see you.”

“Why would you be?”

There was an awkward silence. Treyton couldn’t even look me in the eye.

“Let’s go to the clinic,” I said and grabbed his hand.

His hand was stiff, proving that he’s nervous. If this guy likes my daughter, then I won’t go easy on him.

I carefully patted the tip of the cotton on his wound while we sat on the bed. His eyes couldn’t stay still as if I intimated him. I narrowed my eyes and leaned closer to his face. That moment froze him as he gulped.

“Don’t be too excited. I’m not a rapist,” I whispered.

His eyes widened, and he immediately moved away from me. His face turned red as he stood up and turned his back on me.

“You have some dirt on your uniform,” I said and wiped away the dirt using my hands.

I faced him and fixed his collar. My hand stopped on his chest where I felt his heart throbbing rapidly.

“What are you doing?” he asked in a husky voice.

He held my hand and gazed at me. I knew it; he likes my daughter. A few touches could show one’s feelings towards another.

I pulled my hand away from him and smiled.

“I think you’re fine. So don’t bother me anymore. If you do, you already know what will happen,” I said and walked out of the room.

That’s what you should do in order to keep him wanting you. Show him you don’t need him and you can protect yourself. Tease him a little until he gets thrilled. When he’s on the verge of falling, leave him on top of the hill. If my plan works, he’ll come running after Kylo.

I went to my subject teachers to see what I could do to cope up with my missing activities. I’m going to pull an all-nighter to finish them all. The class ended smoothly with no one annoying me. The rumor has reached their ears that they can’t win against me. I have changed Kylo’s title from a cheater to an intellectual badass. Isn’t it fancy?

I grabbed my bag and went out of the room. Everyone has left the campus. I could hear nothing but the chirping of birds and my own footsteps. I walked on the highway under the tall, old trees. My eyes witnessed how their dry leaves fell down with grace and hit the grass without emotion.

My feet led me to the nearest bench, and I rested myself there. I gaze at the unmoving, wide, green field. The wind was calm and comforting, like the days when I had no worries. I heaved a sigh and closed my eyes as the rays of the sun struck my face.

In a second, the lights were gone as I felt a shade shielded me from its heat.

“Stop following me,” I said before I opened my eyes.

His hand was above my face. He’s trying so hard to be a romanticist. Treyton sat beside me while maintaining the distance between us.

“So… you decided to ignore my threat,” I said.

He smiled.

“What a cutie,” he uttered.

“You’ll regret saying that soon.”

He glanced at me.

“Have you been studying here for 4 years?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“I can’t believe I never noticed you for the past years.”

Me too. I can’t believe you are her type.

“You don’t have to. It’s better that way.”

“Why? I mean most of the girls like me.”

I rolled my eyes.

“I’m the only exception. I guess I’m not a girl.”

He shook his head in disbelief.

“What’s your type then?”

I sighed and stared blankly through thin air.

“Someone who knows how to love. A man who’s not afraid to commit mistakes.”

“That’s all?”

“Do you think it’s too simple? Well, I know someone who can’t do both.”

I faked a smile.

“I can be that man for you.”

That was too fast.

“I want to become a secret agent.”

“Then you can’t be the man for me. I hate secret agents.”

I stood up and hastened away from him. He followed me while calling my name. In a glimpse of an eye, he caught my hand and looked deeply into my eyes.

“What do you want me to be?” he asked.

“I want you to become a farmer. I want to live in a land with beautiful flowers and a peaceful environment. My eyes should only see you and the pasture. I need a safe place without the terrors of society. In short, take me far away.”

His eyes sparkled with a bizarre thought of what’s ahead of him.

“Don’t you think it’s too early to say that?”

“You’re too young to understand.”

“No. That’s exactly what I will do.”

“How do you say I like you without saying I like you?”

He has a puzzled look on his face.

“What? I… hate you?”

“I hate you too.”
