Chapter 66: Chapter 66
Lana stared at the phone call with a dazed expression. Mr. Crow arched a brow in curiosity. "Why are you helping him so much?"
"Because I hate blackmailers the most." Lana’s tone was laced with profound emotions that Mr. Crow couldn’t decipher.
Melancholy? Or was it deep disdain? Or fury?
Mr. Crow couldn’t distinguish. "Are you going to exorcise the ghost then?"
"Hm." Lana nodded with a profound look.
Thereafter, Lana busied herself with the talisman. Recently, she had reached the perfection stage in making the Basic Exorcism Talisman, and Zephyr promised to unlock a new talisman soon.
Since her mission issuer had fixed an appointment for tomorrow, Lana agreed to help Robert.
In the evening, Lana set out for Nixon Corporation and arrived at the reception.
Crystal and Felixia greeted her with a respectful bow, though their eyes were faintly clouded with worry.
Their source of worry: What if Lana remembered their disrespectful behavior and asked the CEO to fire them?
However, Lana’s constantly cheerful demeanor hardly let them discern their future in the company.
If Lana could hear the receptionist’s thoughts, she would have laughed and told them, "You are thinking too much."
Though Lana held grudges, it was only against those who intentionally caused trouble for her.
The receptionists at most were doing their work.
On reaching outside Nixon’s office, Lana knocked, and when she heard the familiar deep yet serious masculine voice saying, ’Come in,’ she pushed open the cold glass door.
On the way, Lana’s mind was preoccupied by Robert’s matter; hence, her attention on the chattering was even more or less.
If she weren’t distracted, she would have recognized the familiar fragrance in the air.
Entering the room, she greeted Nixon. "Good evening, we can begin..."
Midway through her sentence, Lana froze; her beautiful almond-shaped black eyes collided with a sharp sapphire blue eye.
Mr. Crow perched on Lana’s shoulder and heard her rapidly beating heart.
Lana’s pupil dilated, and for a moment, she instinctively wanted to call Lucian’s name, but she stopped herself at the right time and mechanically turned toward Nixon.
’Don’t react! Don’t react! In this life, you still haven’t officially met him! And he isn’t even popular among the general public, so I can’t use the excuse of who doesn’t know him!’
"And this?" The familiar cool voice tinged with laziness and curiosity echoed in Lana’s ears.
’His deep seductive voice... one of these days... I will tie him up and...’ Lana’s innocent expression masked the lewd thoughts revolving in her mind.
’You woman! Have some shame! Is there a lack of handsome men in this world? Do you have to act so lustfully toward him?’ Mr. Crow chided her harshly.
From his perspective, though, Lucian was an apex-quality-looking man, but when Mr. Crow could transform into a human... Thıs text ıs hosted at novel✦fire.net
’Ah! You don’t understand! After touching his abs and pecs, my only wish is to die while kissing him and groping them!’ Lana sighed; however, on the surface, she remained calm and collected.
’Why not hire a boy toy then?’ Mr. Crow arched his brow. ’You have money now.’
A faint irritation was visible in his eyes.
’But they aren’t my white moonlight!’ Lana screamed in her heart, ’You know how much I like him...’
’Yes! Yes! I understand! But what will you do in case he never loves you back?’ Mr. Crow asked curiously.
’Eh?’ Lana seemed confused by Mr. Crow’s words, ’Then I will love him from afar.’
’Won’t you be heartbroken if you see him with someone else? Don’t you wish that he loves you back?’ Mr. Crow asked, baffled by Lana’s thought process, and even wondered if her mind was functioning properly.
’I will be heartbroken if I see him with someone else.’ Lana admitted, ’However, I never add love with greed, Mr. Crow. Love is a simple emotion; it will make you happy if you do it properly, but if you add words like "hope," "greed," and "expectations"... it isn’t love anymore. It’s your flaw.’
Mr. Crow fell silent at Lana’s words.
For some reason, his heart ached. Lana... what she had even gone through to reach this level of enlightenment.
’Then what if he sleeps with someone else?’ Mr. Crow questioned, and an itch grew in his heart to know the depth of Lana’s emotion.
’I will be heartbroken.’ Lana smiled; a trace of bitterness flashed in her heart. ’But he doesn’t love me, so what right do I have to stop him?’
’I can’t understand you, Lana.’ Mr. Crow sighed. ’Just now, you lectured me about the addition of extra emotion to love, and yet you sound like the most heartbroken woman I’ve ever met.’
Lana chuckled faintly, her tone light but her eyes shadowed.
’That’s because I’ve already experienced the consequences of loving wrongly once. This time, I simply wish to admire... not possess.’
Mr. Crow tilted his head, his beady eyes narrowing. ’You speak like someone who’s given up.’
’No, Mr. Crow. I haven’t given up. I’ve just learned when to stop chasing what I couldn’t afford.’ Lana laughed.
Mr. Crow pursed his beak but decided not to argue with Lana anymore. He stared intently at Lucian and thought,
’Hmph! Ugly human! How dare he make Lana sad and not get together with her!’
Lucian’s eyes stayed trained on the beautiful woman with pale skin and pitch-black hair, which was, according to him, mostly like a wig. And though she tried her best to hide her true eye color, the black lenses spoke volumes.
Her beautiful eyelashes fluttered as she lowered her gaze, and under the bright lights, she looked intoxicating.
Maybe it was the sweet smile playing at her lips... or maybe it was her unique aura, which was trying to mask her real guarded self.
Though she was entirely different from the pervert kitten he had met before, his eyes flashed with the image of the silver furry kitten with sapphire blue eyes.
With a narrowed gaze, he heard Nixon say,
"She is Lana. A talented weapon designer and an awakener."
