Chapter 41: Chapter 41

Sofia took excessive care of Davion, so much so that he could freely move his upper torso and neck after a week of returning home. His pelvic fracture would take three more weeks to heal and it would take him almost three months to stand on his own feet. Regular physiotherapy would allow him to walk thereafter but the muscles around his pelvic girdle and his legs could take almost a year to heal. It seemed like a huge battle ahead of him but Davion didn't give up hope. He wanted to walk before his daughter was born. So he worked hard and followed everything that his physiotherapist instructed him to do. The physiotherapist praised him for his determination and effort. Even Sofia was impressed and praised him after the physiotherapist left.

"Just praise won't do," said Davion with a nervous smile on his face, his eyes fixed upon the towel in his hands as he absent-mindedly folded it in and out. Sofia's heart skipped a beat. Was he asking her for a kiss? It had been months since they had kissed. So much had happened during that span of time that it felt like a lifetime had been wasted already.

"What else do you want?" She asked him, with hope. His eyes flew up to hers.

"I know that I'm not as good-looking as I was but..," he started nervously but Sofia touched his cheek and closed the distance between them.

"You're still the most gorgeous man on earth, Davion. You know why?" She asked him in a whisper, her mouth inches from his. Davion slowly shook his head, his eyes fixed upon her lips. "Because you're mine," she told him, closing the distance till she could graze his lips with hers, her sweet tongue glided against his lower lip and he moaned and claimed her lips in a lingering and passionate kiss. Sofia couldn't wrap her arms around his neck as he had just recovered from the fall. She placed them lightly on his chest and surrendered to the kiss, opening her mouth to him hungrily. This was what she had been dying for. Davion's arm went around her and he pulled her closer while he plunged into her sweet mouth. Sofia moaned wantonly, while his mouth tasted her, not getting enough of her. Davion was too intoxicated by her to let go and they continued kissing one another as the passion mounted between them.

"I missed you so much, Sofia. I wish I was better. We could have made love like before," said Davion when he finally released her mouth and rested his head against hers.

"Yeah and now you have to wait for a year to make love," said Sofia with a giggle. Davion groaned with agony at the thought of waiting for a year.

"I want to be able to walk before Celestine is born," he told her.

"Don't worry. You will walk in another few months," said Sofia, determined to help him get back to normal. As the days passed by, Davion gained a newfound hope that he would get better and be normal just like he was before. Sofia stood by him like a rock, encouraging him. With his upper body, moving, he could steal as many kisses as he wanted at any time he needed. Sofia's reaction to his kisses was the same as they always had been which only proved that his condition didn't reduce her feelings for him even a single bit.

He was overwhelmed by what she told him. He had no idea that she was testing him a little. He regretted having given up hope so soon. His current condition was a result of his foolishness, his impatience. If he had tried a little more, he would have been able to bring her home and would have been able to make love to her like before.

"We still can make out," suggested Sofia with a wink as if sensing the inner turmoil going on inside him.

Davion's eyes filled with hope. "Are you sure you can handle me? I'm hor*y as hell," he said with a broad smile on his face.

Sofia chuckled when Celestine kicked her already bloated abdomen. "Ouch! Your baby Celestine's kicking me for even suggesting such a thing!" she laughed.

"Are you sure she wouldn't hear us making out?" asked Davion hesitantly. Sofia smiled and shook her head.

"She can hear a few moans but I'm sure she's too tiny to figure it all out," she told him, making him sigh with relief.

His phone buzzed with an incoming call from Colton. It had been two days since he had started working from home and it felt so good to be able to handle his business empire again like before. Although he wasn't able to go to his office yet, still being involved with his work gave him a sense of hope. He hadn't imagined he would be alive when he had jumped to end it all.

It was only because of Sofia that destiny had given him a second chance and he would make the most of it.

"Our topic isn't over yet," he told Sofia with a wink as he accepted Colton's call. Sofia grinned and walked out of his room to look at the progress being made at the nursery. Greta had employed people to renovate the nursery and get it painted. Davion had also pitched in his ideas although he couldn't physically be involved. He had wanted to do everything himself. Sofia was astonished at this complete transformation in him. There was a time when he didn't want any children and wanted her to abort the child she had conceived but now he was eagerly awaiting the birth of his baby daughter. Maybe his close brush up with death made him change his thoughts and ideas. It was a sore topic and she never took it up with him.

As the pregnancy progressed, Davion was upset that he couldn't accompany her to the doctor visits, that he couldn't take care of her.

"Gain as much energy as you can, Davion. Get well before Celestine's born so that you can play with her. Greta is helping me with the doctor visits," she comforted him.

"Maybe I'm getting punished for hating babies before," he said, sadly.

"I don't think so. Then you wouldn't have been blessed with a baby. By the way, why did you hate babies?" she asked curiously. It was a question she had wanted an answer to as well.

"When I was born, my mom developed severe depression. She hated me and didn't want to take care of me. It was my dad who took care of me. How he juggled between work and me, I have no idea. He didn't have much money to engage a nanny for me. My mom and dad eventually fought bitterly over me. My mom hated me more and finally one day, she left us to marry her lover," he said with a deep sigh. "I didn't want our fates to be the same as my parents. My dad died loving my mom all his life, he never remarried, nor loved anyone else till his last breath. I was scared that I would also be doomed to that after you gave birth to a baby," said Davion as a shudder went down his body as he remembered his ordeal.

Sofia hugged his head close to her heart. She realized that it wasn't his fault at all that he was scared of having babies of his own after what he had been through.

"Not all parents are like that, Davion. All moms love their babies. It was your misfortune that your mom turned out that way but believe me, it wasn't because of you that she behaved that way. I'm sure that she didn't love your dad. That was the main reason for her aloofness. I'm not at all like that, Davion. I love you as well as our unborn child. I'm sorry that I didn't know about all this before and kept the news of my pregnancy hidden from you out of fear," she told him honestly.

"Thank you for understanding me, Sofia. But all that feeling has changed the moment I heard that yo\u're pregnant. Now I can't wait to get better for Celestine's sake," said Davion eagerly.
