We went back to the apartment together before dark, and on the way home, Athan was a little silent, I guess it had something to do with his previous conversation with Jack, but I didn't ask him. I know Jack, and since he's deliberately letting me out of the room, he didn’t want me to know what he said to Athan, and I respect that.

I turned my head to look at the scenery outside the car window. Dusk was approaching, the sun was setting westward, and the clouds above the horizon were dyed layer by layer of different colors. It was like a perfect picture. I remembered the dusk in my hometown, where there were no tall buildings, so the horizon was very low, and I could clearly see the whole picture of the sun from touching the line to disappearing without a trace. Over the years, that scene is still an irreplaceable beautiful picture in my heart, but that place is no longer my home.

Athan's big hand grabbed mine lightly, and I turned to meet his dark green eyes, the dim twilight gilding his face, and he smiled and turned his head to look straight ahead. My heart calmed down again, and for some reason, he always seemed to feel my emotions immediately, and often a look or a smile from him could comfort me.

When we got back to the apartment, Markus was already waiting outside the door. Seeing us coming out of the elevator, he bowed and said to Athan: “Mr. Buffay, we have caught the spy of David Hunter’s. ”

Athan signed Markus to go on, and opened the door, Markus entered the room with us.

“He was very careful, for the past few days, he didn’t make any move, so I set him up. I thought that they must want to know your location, and I decided to give them a location.I stayed in your room for two nights, and told everyone to not get close to that floor. Then I set up cameras and left the building on the third morning, and only one person obeyed my order and sneaked in.”

Athan asked: “who was it?”

Athan looked as calm as before, but I knew that he was upset. It’s actually kind of magical that after our night together, I could easily sense his mood. I shook my head and smiled at him: “I’m coming with you.”

He looked a little surprised, but then he became happy, “you want to go with me?”

“Yeah,” I laughed, “unless you don’t want my company.”

Athan finally smiled, he held my hand and said, “it’s my pleasure, let’s go!”

20 minutes after, we went back to the pack gym. The spy Leo was tied up, when he saw us walk in, his eyes were full of fear and shock. He looked at Athan who was healthy and said in horror: “you…you’re okay, how! David said the bomb could at least blow up one of your legs!”

“So it was David Hunter, what did he promise you? ” Athan sat down in front of Leo and asked.

“A better life, of course,” Leo laughed, “with you as an Alpha, I would never have a chance to be a team lead, but David promised the position of his gamma!”

Leo’s voices raised and his expression became excited, his eyes were wide open with madness. Markus’s body was shaking from anger, and I could tell that Leo’s words angered him. Just then, Athan laughed out loud as he just heard something hilarious, he shook his head and looked at Leo, “I would probably pick you too, if I were David, because you are too naïve.”

Leo stared at Athan with hatreds, “bullshit! You are just trying to break me!”

Athan stood up, he looked down at the man in front, coldness filled his eyes, “No Alpha would ever use a traitor, when you kill me, your end will only be death. And you are wrong, I don’t need to break you, because you are useless. I bet David didn’t even contact you after the explosion, that’s why you risked everything to find out my condition, because you wanted him to trust you again. You are just a piece of chess, my friend.”

Before we left the room, I looked back at Leo, he sat on the chair like he had finally understand the reality. Before the door was closed, he roared loudly, full of sadness and regret.

And then a gunshot sounded, Athan’s hand squeezed mine, but the next second he returned to normal. Suddenly, I felt the heavy burden he had as a leader.
