Chapter 56: Chapter 56
Behind the wheel was Wesley, his usually composed face now etched with a mix of coldness and anger. The lines on his forehead deepened, and even his grip on the steering wheel tightened, his knuckles turning white as if trying to control the storm of emotions swirling within him.
The road stretched out before him, winding through the city. Buildings and streetlights blurred past in a haze, mirroring the anger in Wesley's mind. The hum of the engine provided a constant soundtrack to his racing thoughts, the rhythmic vibrations punctuating his inner turmoil.
As he navigated the streets, his gaze remained fixed straight ahead, unyielding. His piercing eyes, usually sharp and focused, now held a glimmer of anger, a flicker of frustration.
He felt his ego hurt and trampled on. He felt humiliated to the core
'How dare she?!'
'That flimsy godforsaken actress, what does she really think she is?? That nothing!'
'She would so see it from me!!'
Every passing car seemed to mirror his inner unrest, the honking horns and hurried drivers echoing the chaotic anger of his thoughts.
With his jaws clenched, Wesley went on driving. Making up his mind that he really would deal with Daisy Louis.
Naaaa, he literarily left his work, his company, came all the way here, only to get that from her.
How impressively ridiculous!
The sudden ringing of Wesley's phone finally deviated his thoughts a bit. He reached out for it and took it where it was on the passenger's seat.
Staring at the screen and screen it was a Croxxed X calling, Wesley picked up the call and placed it against his ear, while using his other free hand to maneuver the wheel.
"Found out some information about the Lady, Masks and Coasters," the man stared but Wesley curtly replied, "Skip."
Who was he truly doing all that for? Wasn't it for that rude and foolish actress?
All his talk about the strategies being the same and doing that to also get Sarah were just flimsy stories. He did not need to investigate the Lady, Masks and Coasters before rescuing Sarah from whoever her abductor is, and from now on, he'll just face issues regarding Sarah, as she is his best friend's girl, Glassware as he had initially planned to deal with Australia's prime minister and other issues regarding his work.
Nothing like that actress again!
'I'm so done with her,' Wesley stated inwardly, matter of factly.
After hearing that from Wesley, the man on the phone went on with his report.
"We found a signal," he stated.
"The signal from Sarah's phone has finally been detected."
Wesley heaved a sigh when he heard that. They finally got something out of the long hours and days trying to detect something and even though they finally got something now, he still would not jump to conclusions just as he had said to Andrew.
The other party might be trying to mislead them or this really might be a true one
But whichever way it is, Wesley isn't one to back down or fail.
"What location did the signal point out?" Wesley asked calmly while connecting his phone to his vehicle's Bluetooth. Following that, he dropped back his phone and went on driving, his both hands now back on the wheel as he drove on and the conversation continued.
"I traced it to a secluded and remote location. But I'm sure it's outskirts of South Yarra," he stated.
"Disburse the men there now," Wesley ordered. "No one should attack. I repeat, don't attack when you aren't sure or you're not supposed to. "
"Remember they have Sarah in their hands," he added.
"Alright boss," the man replied and then the call dropped.
They might not be able to get back Sarah now since they aren't sure if the signal they got was right, but one thing Wesley is sure of is that they'll get their real location with this signal, even if it was meant to mislead them.
For the past three days, Mr Louis had been pacing back and forth between the police station and the hospital his friend worked in, his mind consumed by worry and confusion.
How could his dear friend, the doctor, suddenly vanish without a trace? They had known each other for years, and now he had disappeared the night of the day he came over to treat his daughter.
It was scary and just the thought of some sort of evil befalling his dear friend sent shivers down Mr. Louis' spine.
And right now, he was in one of the corridors of the hospital his friend worked as a doctor, talking to another of his friend, trying to get another place that the doctor do visit. But despite how many times he asked, he kept on hearing the same set of places over and over again.
The same places the police had sent out a team of search parties to search vigorously.
He is grateful his daughter is getting better and now conscious, but now, his friend going missing is also a big problem.
The sudden ringing of his phone caused him to shiver slightly and seeing the DPO's name displayed on the screen, the atmosphere tensed slightly.
For a while now, Mr Louis had just been having this feeling in his guts that something was really really wrong. That there was bad news looming.
Mr. Louis received his call and what he heard over the phone immediately shattered his already fragile state of mind.
The station had called to inform him that they had just found a body which perfectly described his friend, floating in the water under the bridge. And now, the police were requesting his presence to identify the corpse.
A mixture of fear and anxiety gripped him as he immediately began to pray that the corpse is not his friend.
Since the doctor disappeared with his car, they had also been searching for his car to at least get a clue of where exactly he got lost too, but they had never seen the car.
Now, they had found a gross-looking corpse in the water which looked like the doctor.
The police then were ordered to check the water for his car or anything that could give them a clue of what happened.
As Mr Louis drove all the way from the doctor's place of work to the station, his grip on the steering wheel tight, his foot pressing hard on the accelerator as his car raced down the road.
The sirens wailed in the distance, echoing the urgency in his heart. Every fibre of his being shook in fear as he fervently prayed in his mind, hoping that the corpse was not his friend.
Alas...
Mr Louis soon got to the station and rushed in.
They then told him to be quiet as they were still trying to hide their findings from his wife, who had not stopped crying in the station since yesterday.
The woman feared the worst happening to her husband.
Mr Louis's steps faltered as he made his way to the place they placed the body, dread weighing him down. And even just that short distance felt like an eternity.
Silent fervent prayers escaped his lips.
As he arrived at the scene, the police guided him to the side of the coffin where the lifeless body lay motionless. Mr Louis took a deep breath, mustering all his strength to confront the grim reality before him. With trembling hands, he reached out to identify the body, his heart pounding in his chest.
And at that moment, as he gazed upon the lifeless figure, tears flowed down his eyes.
His friend was really lying right before him, dead.
