Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Daisy lay on the wide bed with her phone lying beside her. She had been lost in her own thoughts and had ended up falling asleep.
Through her sleep she felt someone gently adjusting her then she was tucked in with the duvet.
She opened her eyes dimly to see Rose who had taken her phone away and was placing it on the bedside table.
Rose turned and their eyes met who subsequently scowled at her.
“You took the phone huh? What exactly do you want to see?” Rose chided her.
Daisy could not help but smile, but the smile did not reach her eyes.
Rose was acting like her mother and it made her remember how her mum would scold her over funny little things. Right now, she found Rose amusing, but she could not smile brightly.
Her life was a mess, how could she smile?
Rose saw this and slowly walked up to her bed. She breathed out a sigh and sat on the bed beside her then she fixed her gaze on her sad face. Daisy still had the smile on but now, it slowly died down.
They stared at each other for a while before Rose suddenly tugged at her arm.
“Come on, cheer up girl,” she huffed and Daisy smiled very faintly.
“I will try,” she murmured.
Rose heaved a sigh and paused like she was in thought. Her face was contorted with sadness and concern for her friend but she was trying so much to hide it and even Daisy could see that.
It broke her heart seeing how much she is bothering everybody.
Just then Rose raised her head and looked at her like she suddenly remembered something.
“That reminds me Daisy, I met up with Cindy today,” she started then paused to see if Daisy was listening. Then she continued. “We came up with an idea to solve our public problem.”
‘Our public problem?’ Daisy was amused. She is the one with the public problem, right?
“A public apology would do. I went to see the director and he promised to release an article on your case tomorrow. He said it is what they should do but he wanted to be sure if what happened is true or not before releasing anything that could make the netizens attack the media as a whole. We have no way to prove that you really were set up. I convinced him and swore you really were set up and he promised to release the article. Next tomorrow, we will be holding a press conference. You’ll come out and apologise to your fans. But it might be tomorrow, depending on how pressing the issue becomes or how positively things take a turn. Cindy and I would also make posts about this issue before the conference,”
Daisy listened as Rose spoke and she was on the verge of tearing up but she held it all in and just listened to how Rose and Cindy seemed to have planned out the solution to her problem while she had laid in bed all day, wallowing in sorrow.
Rose continued.
“Cindy would be coming over tomorrow. Remember her skincare commercials started three days ago, so she’s trying to round up with it so she can be here.”
Daisy was baffled.
“Round up or put on hold?” she asked with wide eyes and Rose looked at her with raised brows. “Anyone. What?”
But Daisy grabbed her hand and shook her head seriously.
“No no no, she can’t do that.” She was extremely puzzled. Why would her friends have to put their work on hold because of the mess she got herself in?
She didn’t want that.
Rose had not gone to work today and that still bothered her.
‘Why should they leave their work because of me?’
“Tell her she doesn’t have to do that. In fact, she shouldn’t. Please,” Daisy pleaded, with her pleading eyes fixed on Rose who stared at her amused.
Rose rolled her eyes at her. “Just stop okay? She wants to do this so let her!”
Rose tried getting up but Daisy held tightly unto her arm.
“Oh no come on. You should try helping me to talk her out of doing that okay?”
Rose gave her a somewhat disappointed look. “Tell me why. Why can’t she? Is she not your friend?” Rose scoffed
Daisy was mortified. ‘Was I that wrong?’
“I wonder if you see us as friends or just colleagues.”
When Rose said this, Daisy was so stunned that her hand holding Rose’s arm slid down on its own accord.
Rose stood up from the bed, wearing a sad look that caused Daisy to start feeling extremely guilty. Rose ignored her and left the room feigning annoyance and Daisy lay back in bed and stared at the ceiling.
‘Was I that wrong and bad as a friend?’
Remembering she was supposed to go after her to apologise for being annoying, she got off the bed and left the room too.
She met Rose down the hallway so she ran after her, caught up with her and immediately hugged her from behind.
“I’m sorry Rose,” she apologized.
Rose continued to feign annoyance and even tried to pry Daisy’s arms open which were wrapped around her waist.
In the end, she succumbed and turned to face the latter.
“You make me sad when you talk and act that way huh?”
“I’m really sorry.” Daisy apologized once more then she hugged and placed her head on Rose’s shoulder like a spoilt child.
Rose chuckled and patted her head. “It’s fine,” she said causing Daisy to pout cutely.
Daisy was feeling emotional now and was trying so much to hold back her tears. She was on the verge of tearing up.
A drop of tear left her eye and trickled down her face but she immediately wiped it so Rose wouldn’t know. But Rose, being the sensitive person that she is muttered hoarsely, “don’t cry Daisy. Please don’t”
Just that was enough to release the flood of tears she had been restraining and they came pouring down. Rose withdrew the hug to take a look at her face and seeing how tear-shrieked her face had become, she was baffled.
She raised her hand to her face to wipe off her tears.
“Stop crying Daisy, please stop crying. Remember you have to be strong,” she cooed.
Daisy tried hard and stopped crying. She wiped her tears and stared gratefully at Rose. “Thank you so much, Rose,” she was extremely grateful that she poured her heart out. But Rose raised her brows at her.
“Okay okay just stop it. If you’re grateful then treat us to a meal,” Rose smirked playfully. Daisy laughed at that, this time genuinely.
“I would treat you guys to meals,” Daisy meant it as she was extremely grateful and the way Rose giggled cause of something as small as that made her feel amused.
She promised to do something very outstanding for her two friends.
The two stood facing each other in the hallway as they seemed to be in thought. Then Daisy thought of something and looked up at Rose.
“Regarding the press conference, will the netizens believe me when even Edward doesn’t believe me nor is even saying anything?”
Rose gazed at her thoughtfully.
“We are meeting up with Edward tomorrow. You would call him tomorrow morning. Don’t worry, I would be with you when you make the phone call. If Edwards believes you and supports the conference, then the result will be more positive but if he doesn’t, we’re holding the conference regardless. That was why I said we might hold the conference tomorrow depending on how things turn out. Our tomorrow’s meeting will determine that. If he doesn’t believe you, I’ll come up with another plan. But I believe Edward would believe you.”
Daisy breathed out heavily. She would be meeting her boyfriend tomorrow.
The thought alone made her nervous. She had missed him so much that it felt like hundred days since she last saw him.
Rose parted her back. “You’ll be fine.”
Then remembering something once more, Daisy looked at Rose seriously.
“Can I see the video please?”
Rose paused at her request. Soon she shook her head and said; “no.”
“Please,” she begged. She wanted to see the nature of the video and how bad it was.
“What do you need it for?” Rose asked.
“I should at least see it right?” Daisy sighed.
After a brief pause, Rose slummed her shoulders. “I don’t have the video Daisy. You did not expect me to have downloaded that right?”
“I was even enraged. Like who the hell dared do this to you?”
Even though Rose said that, Daisy thought otherwise. She thought Rose should have at least kept the video so they could start their investigations regarding the matter from there.
Anyways, Daisy didn’t think much about it
