Chapter 92: Chapter 92
Amy opened her bedroom door and was surprised to see Kyle. She wasted no second in engulfing him in a hug. Kyle sighed in relief and returned the hug. He was scared Amy wouldn’t want to see him, that was why he didn’t have the courage to face her when she was in the hospital.
“I missed you too” he said into the hug,not planning on letting go anytime soon.
Amy didn’t think she’d see Kyle again after he left the state, because he was deeply hurt when he left. She was excited when her mom told her that Kyle was in town, but deep down she was scared that he wouldn’t want to be anywhere near her.
“I thought you were still mad at me” Amy mumbled against his chest, enjoying his familiar scent.
“I was never angry at you, Amy… I was rather angry at myself for not saying anything sooner” he honestly replied.
“I’m sorry for hurting your feelings. It was never my-“
“Hey, look at me. You did nothing wrong, okay?”
Amy nodded while biting her lower lip.
They both needed this closure after the painful way they said goodbye to each other three years ago.
“How are you feeling?” Kyle changed the subject of discussion, as he guided Amy to her bed.
“I don’t wanna talk about it” she replied wearing a sad face.
“Amy, I’m not going to judge you, but I want you to promise me one thing”
“What’s that?”
“Promise me you won’t do something like this ever again”
Amy only stared at Kyle. At this point, she wasn’t sure of herself because she has no idea what her life will be like without Bryan in it. She doesn’t see a future without the love of her life, so she can’t promise anyone anything.
“Amy, please say something” Kyle pleaded.
He was scared to his bones when Mandy called him, to tell him what had happened. He couldn’t believe Amy would go as far as attempting suicide because of a breakup. It made him feel guilty at some point, as he wondered if such a thing could have been prevented had he stayed behind and fought for her love.
“Mandy told me everything” Kyle then confessed when Amy still didn’t give him any reply.
He couldn’t find it in him to keep such information away from Amy, as it had everything to do with her. Plus, the conversation he had with Bryan one week ago has been eating him up. As tempting as it was, he couldn’t bring himself to do as Bryan asked.
Amy’s eyes bulged in their sockets at this information. How could her best friend betray her this way? She trusted her with her biggest secret and she revealed it at the slightest chance she got.
“Why?! I trusted her with this!” Amy exclaimed in disbelief.
Her world is undoubtedly falling apart. If Kyle is aware of her relationship with Bryan, then it’s no longer a secret.
Kyle could see how scared and conflicted Amy was.
Was telling her the truth a wrong decision on his path? He wondered.
He placed his hands on her shoulders to keep her in place.
“I’m not going to say anything to Henry, if that’s what you’re scared of” he said to assure her that her secret was still safe.
Amy took a few deep breaths to calm herself. Thank goodness it was Kyle and not someone else because she didn’t want her dad blaming Bryan for her near death experience. This decision was hers and hers alone.
“So, I’m going to ask you one more time… How are you feeling?”
Amy instead of answering Kyle’s question, broke down in tears.
“He hates me, Kyle. Not once did he come to see me at the hospital” she sobbed, expressing her true feelings to Kyle, as she no longer had anything to hide from him.
She didn’t want to believe it when her mom told her that Bryan didn’t show up, but after spending a whole week in the hospital with still no sign of Bryan, she had no choice but to believe the worse.
If only she knew that Bryan never missed a day at the hospital. He just couldn’t see her in person, which was why she thought he wasn’t there for her.
Should he tell her the truth? But that would mean going against what Bryan was trying to achieve, but at the same time, Amy was hurting. She thinks Bryan doesn’t love her anymore, when that is completely far from the truth.
Kyle hugged a sobbing Amy. He didn’t like to see her cry.
“Do you want me to speak to him?” He carefully enquired, to know how she felt about Bryan at the moment.
“No. You’ll do no such thing… If he doesn’t want me anymore, then so be it”
Bryan was standing outside Henry’s mansion. It has been four excruciating days since Amy was discharged from the hospital and he was itching to know how she was doing. Even though Henry had told him that Amy was slowly getting better, he wanted to see it for himself.
But how does he go about that?
He took a deep breath, making up his mind to see Amy today. He didn’t want Henry getting suspicious as to why he hasn’t said hello to Amy since the incident. He had come up with so many excuses for his action and had ran out of options. He rang the doorbell and some moment later, a maid let him in.
Bryan’s prayers was answered, as Amy was present in the living room with Henry. They were watching a movie. She was wearing a white tank top and denim shorts. Bryan’s heart sank when he saw how pale and lean Amy had become.
If he could turn back the hands of time, he would take back all the things he said that day.
“Hey, Bryan” Henry greeted the minute he noticed Bryan’s presence.
Bryan, who didn’t realize that he was lost in his own thoughts, gained his composure and sent a nod of greeting Henry’s way.
“Amy, how are you feeling?” He greeted Amy, who refused to acknowledge his presence.
“I’m fine. You?” She politely replied, not wanting to be rude or raise any suspicion.
“Besides my hectic schedule, I’m good”
As if on cue, Henry’s phone began to ring.
“I have to take this” he said, excusing himself from their presence.
Amy didn’t see any need to remain in the living room, so she stood up from the couch and was about to make her way upstairs, but Bryan moved swiftly towards her and held her by her hand before she could leave the living room.
Amy was taken aback by Bryan’s action, as she wasn’t expecting him to stop her.
“What are you doing?!” She whisper yelled, looking around the living room for any sign of her dad as she tries to get out of Bryan’s strong grip.
“I’m sorry” he suddenly said with pleading eyes, staring into her confused ones, hoping she would see his sincerity.
“You’re sorry?... You’re sorry about what?” She asked in anger.
“You ignored me for days… If I recall correctly, you said you never really loved me.. And Bryan, you didn’t give a damn if I was dead or alive. So, what are you sorry for?”
Bryan was hurt by Amy’s words, but he brought it upon himself, so he should be strong enough to accept the result of his actions.
“I thought you don’t love me? I thought I was just an infatuation?” She continued.
Bryan was grinding his teeth together, to stop himself from confessing the truth.
“I wanted to believe that you were lying to me, that you did it for Sean. But as the days went by, I realized that I was wrong… I realized that I was a complete fool to have fallen for a man who never really loved me” tears were already falling from Amy’s eyes as she spoke.
She could clearly see how her words were hurting Bryan, but she couldn’t stop herself. She needed to let it out. She needed to let him know how hurt she was by his words, his actions and his absence.
“Amy, I st-“ Bryan stopped himself from saying those three words he desperately wanted to say
“I’m sorry” he said instead as a stray tear rolled down his cheek.
He couldn’t do it. He didn’t want to raise her hopes up because he was a coward. A coward who couldn’t stand up for his true love.
Amy scoffed in annoyance. This was a complete waste of time.
“Let go of my hand, Bryan” she muttered through gritted teeth, as she was trying to control herself from screaming out in pain and frustration.
Bryan reluctantly did as Amy had asked and watched with a heavy heart as she ran upstairs.
“Where is Amy?” Henry’s voice called Bryan’s attention.
He quickly wiped his tears and turned around to face his best friend.
“She, uh. She was tired and decided to take a nap” he smoothly replied, hoping Henry would buy it.
“Okay… You’ve been quite busy lately. Tell me, what have you been up to?”
Bryan stared at the staircase one last time before joining his best friend on the couch.
