Chapter 91: Chapter 91

‘What is he doing here?... Why did he let his little sister talk him into coming here?’ Kyle wondered, staring at the mansion in front of him.

How will Amy react when she finds out about this meeting?

Will she forgive him for interfering in her personal life?

Should he turn around now and forget that he ever had this conversation with Mandy? Or should he wait a bit longer and talk to Amy in person, to know if she’ll be okay with him meeting with her ex.

But he couldn’t help it, he was also inquisitive to see this person in question and know why he abandoned Amy at such a crucial time when he was this close.

Taking a deep breath, Kyle climbed out of his car and started his way towards the front door. He rang the doorbell, took a step back and waited for the occupant of the mansion to answer the door.

Thinking about it, this mansion looks so familiar, like he has been here before. As Kyle was trying to figure out his connection to this surrounding area, the front door suddenly opened, revealing Bryan. Kyle’s eyes went wide with surprise for a split second before he masked it back with a straight face.

When Mandy mentioned the name Bryan, it did ring a bell, but he never expected it to be Sean’s father and Henry’s best friend. Although he currently looks like a complete mess, with his untidy look and bloodshot eyes, he honestly doesn’t look his age, just like Henry. No wonder Amy fell for him.

“You are?..” Bryan asked, unsure of who this stranger is.

“I’m Kyle. You must be Bryan” Kyle replied.

“I am” Bryan confirmed, wondering what Kyle was doing at his house. He then recalled that Chase had dropped by his house earlier today to see Sean before they both left for the hospital.

“If you’re here to see Chase, he already left with Sean. They’re at the hospital”

“Actually… I’m here to see you”

That took Bryan by surprise. Why would Kyle come to see him? This is so unusual.

“Come in… How may I be of help to you?” He said after giving it a thought.

“I’m here to talk… Man to man”

Bryan let out a defeated sigh when he realized that Paula or preferably Mandy had let the cat out of the bag.

“Is this about Amy?” He asked just to make sure.

Kyle only nodded in reply, already feeling sorry for Bryan, who looked completely worn out.

“It’s a long story” Bryan wasn’t in the mood to explain himself to anybody, because no one would ever understand him. The deed has already been done and he’s willing to live with the blame and regret for the rest of his life.

“I have all the time in the world”

There was no emotion in her eyes, as she stared into nothing. She couldn’t believe that she was pregnant for Bryan. One of her greatest wish actually came true, but she killed it with her own hands. She ruined everything the moment she picked up that darn blade.

Why was she so careless? Why didn’t she pay attention to the small changes in her body like every other woman?

Why did she ignore her emotions that suddenly started running high? Or her sudden desire to always be with him. The signs were there, they were all there but she chose to ignore them. She ignored them to her own detriment.

Now, she has no chance of getting back together with Bryan.

If he lied about not loving her anymore because of his son, he’ll surely hate her now for killing his unborn child.

She needs to get out of here. She needs to ask for Bryan’s forgiveness. She never meant to kill their baby, she only wanted to end her own life and not that of their innocent child.

Amy didn’t know that she was already trying to take off the tubes from her hands, until her mom who was in the room with her shook her to reality.

“It’s not your fault, Amy. None of this is your fault… If there’s anyone to blame, it’s me. I should’ve taken you to the hospital when I sensed something was wrong. You can blame me for everything” Paula said in tears, hugging her screaming daughter, who was trying to trash out of her embrace.

“Forgive me, Bryan. Forgive me” Amy kept mumbling into the hug, as she sobbed her heart out for the nth time.

“All my life, I’ve never had the chance to be truly happy” Bryan began, staring at the empty space in front of him, like he was trying to relive his past experience.

Bryan and Kyle were seated in his study, as he didn’t want anyone walking in on their conversation in the living room.

“I’ve always had my life decided for me by my parents, as I was their only child”

Kyle could relate to what Bryan was saying. Although he wasn’t an only child like Bryan, he still had to live up to his parents expectations, forgetting about whatever dream he had as a growing up child.

“When I reached junior high, I got fed up. I decided to live my life the way I wanted to, even if it were for a short period. So, I started drinking, partying, breaking rules and changing girls” he downed his glass of whiskey in one gulp and continued.

“This went on until senior high… Unlike Henry, who found the love of his life along the way, I was never happy. I decided to move on from that phase, but it was too late. Monica was pregnant with our son, Sean… I hate to sound mean and insensitive, but the truth is that I never loved her… I was willing to take responsibility for the baby, but she had other plans” Bryan chuckled at the memory, helping himself to another glass of whiskey.

Kyle could tell Bryan was only trying to act unaffected by his past, when in reality it was still eating him up.

“My parents somehow found out about the pregnancy, and forced me to marry her. They wanted me to be responsible for my actions… I wanted so bad to hate Monica for what she did, but I couldn’t because she was carrying my child”

Who would’ve thought that Bryan’s marriage to Monica was an arranged marriage? They looked so happy together. Not everything is as it seems, Kyle concluded within himself.

“I tried my best to build a happy home for the sake of my son, but yet again I failed. I lost Monica to cancer and I couldn’t even raise my own son” Bryan’s voice was filled with emotion as he recalled the day when Sean refused to move back with him to California. That, besides the day Amy tried to commit suicide was the most painful day of his entire life.

“Sometimes, I look back and wonder what my life would’ve been like if I hadn’t rebelled” he admitted.

“Just when I thought that I could never be truly happy, Amy showed up… Some may think of me as a sick bastard. Even you can think the worse of me, but I can’t change what I feel. My heart surrendered itself to Amy without even realizing it… I guess that was to prove the fact that I didn’t deserve true happiness”

Kyle stopped Bryan from pouring himself another glass of whiskey because he had to. Bryan had already finished a bottle of whiskey before his arrival, without even realizing it and was already half way through the second bottle. This could have an adverse effect on his health.

“You’ve had more than enough for one day” he told Bryan.

Bryan didn’t argue. He placed the empty glass on the coffee table and covered his face with his hands, letting out a disgruntled moan.

“I shouldn’t have led her on. I knew we could never be together, but I was selfish… I wanted to know what it felt like to be in love, to be sincerely happy” Bryan continued.

“You’ll need to tell Henry the truth” Kyle spoke up for the very first time since Bryan started his story.

“I can’t… I can’t do it” Bryan confessed while shaking his head to emphasize his reply.

“And why is that?... Henry is your best friend, he should understand you better than anyone else”

“I can’t because Henry will kill me for being with his daughter. I can’t because Sean is in love with Amy. I can’t because Monica’s last wish was that our kids get married” Bryan explained in frustration.

“I can go on if you want” he sighed in defeat.

“So, what are you going to do?” Kyle asked.

This man is going through a lot and no one seems to notice.

“Nothing” Bryan replied.

“Nothing?... Amy is going to hate you for doing nothing!” Kyle exclaimed in disbelief.

“It’s better this way”

“So, you’re just going to sit back and watch the woman you claim to love get married to your son?”

“I need you to make me a promise”

“That’s not the answer to my question”

“I want you to make Amy happy”

“Are you even listening to yourself” Kyle was getting frustrated as his words kept falling on deaf ears.

“I want you to make Amy believe in love again cos I know she will never agree to marry Sean”
