Chapter 55: Chapter 55

RUBY.

I woke up with a banging headache and my mouth feeling so dry like I had been chewing sand. I was afraid to open my eyes but I bravely pried one eye open and then the other when I found that the blinds in my room had been closed shut. "My head," I groaned.

"She lives," Sapphire jested.

"God, I'm never drinking again," I said. I held my head in my hands and attempted to get up gingerly.

"The biggest and most common lie ever told." She handed me two tiny tablets and a tall glass of water which I accepted gratefully.

"What time is it?" I asked, relaxing on the headboard.

"I don't know exactly but it's way past noon."

"I must have had quite a night yesterday?" I asked tentatively, not knowing how to ask if I embarrassed myself and how bad it was. Everything after leaving Toby's parent's house is blacked out.

"You don't remember do you?" She asked and I nod in reply. "Well, my sister you are hot, you had Aiden and Toby fighting over you right in this room. Do you know how many girls, myself included will kill to have either one of them?"

"That's impossible, Aiden is gay," I blurted out, I slapped a hand over my mouth right after." I wasn't supposed to say that."

"No, he is not."

"He is," I insisted.

"Did he tell you he was gay?"

"Not expressly, I kind of assumed it and he didn't refute it."

"Well you wrongly assumed, this man fought his cousin because of you and he said he told Toby from the beginning that he wanted you and he promised he could have you."

"Oh my goodness, this is worsening my headache. Do you know what I did in front of this man, I told him to check my ass if I was stained, he virtually saw me naked because I took him like a girlfriend." I flopped face forward in mortification. " How am I supposed to face him after this? How am I to face the world?" I cried dramatically.

"He didn't seem to mind. Don't be dramatic, this should be a thing of pride, you have two hot guys after you. Now the question is who will you be choosing?"

"There is no choice," I huffed.

"So when did Toby pop your cherry? I want all the details."

"I never said he did," I said turning red.

"Yeah, but the look on your face just confirmed my suspicion, start talking."

"All this talking is aggravating my headache," I cried, trying to avoid the new topic.

"I'll go get you something to eat that will cure your hangover but right after that, you will disclose every detail of your first night. I'm not giving up so easily." She said, getting up from the corner of my bed where she sat.

Sapphire made me banana pancakes with some amazing eggs and sausage. She wasn't the best cook but somehow breakfast foods were something she was great at.

"It works wonders with hangovers, just drink it." She had been trying to convince me to drink the funky-looking smoothie she had made which she swore was an instant cure for hangovers. Everybody claimed to have a cure for hangovers. The delicious breakfast I just had felt like it was slowly rising and about to make an appearance so I couldn't add the funny drink and I was about to tell her just that when bile rose in my throat. I rushed to the bathroom, best spilling my guts on my bedroom floor. Sapphire was right behind me rubbing soothing circles on my back and pulling my hair away from my face.

"The alcohol must have still been in your system," she said as she washed me and I brushed the icky taste of vomit out of my mouth.

"Yeah, I agree with you." After I spit out the toothpaste.

"I'll be staying this week if you don't mind having me, I need a break from my mother and I would love to spend some time with you." She said while we were both laid up in my bed.

"Are you kidding? I'd love to have you, I wish you could stay longer." I rolled over in bed to hug her.

Avoiding Toby and Aiden this week has been surprisingly easy but the little thought that had been on replay in my head had not been as easy to ignore.

"You should take a pregnancy test," Sapphire said casually one evening while we were watching TV in my room.

"Why do you say so?" I asked defensively.

"Well you've been throwing up your breakfast for the three days I've been here for starters, should I go on." I winced at her words.

"It's just a stomach bug that won't go away," I said lamely.

"How long has this stomach bug been in the picture?" She asked. "No answer hmmm. It's been quite a while right? Just take the test so we'll at least know."

"Okay, I'll get a test kiton my way back from work."

"Ruby," I heard someone yell my name as I hurried to submit today's report to my supervisor. I turned to see Aiden running toward me," I spoke too soon about successfully avoiding them," I whispered to myself.

"Hi Aiden," I said when we came face to face with each other.

"Can we talk somewhere private after you close?" He asked.

"Sure," I answered. It would be best if we just got the unpleasantness behind us, "let me just submit today's report to my supervisor then I'm free to clock out."

"Okay."

I submitted my file to my creepy supervisor who tried to make conversation with me at every turn and then finally left to find Aiden waiting for me at the same spot I left him.

"Shall we?" I asked, gaining his attention.

"Yeah, let's go," he said and led me to his car. I called my driver and told him I was with Aiden before we left.

"Can we stop at the drugstore?" I asked after we had been driving for a while.

"Sure. Are you okay? He asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied.

"What do you need? Let me go get it for you." He said after lurking in his car in the drug store parking lot.

"I'd rather go get it myself, I like to do my shopping myself. I might forget something but when I see it then I'll remember," I rambled.

"Alone," I said when I had to get down from the car and noticed that he followed suit. "I like to shop alone."

I grabbed my purse and rushed into the store, walking past the pads, contraceptives and day-after pill. I grabbed three pregnancy tests and quickly paid for them. I pushed them as deep into my purse as they could go, they were already burning a hole through my bag and into my side. It was going to be a long night.
