Chapter 106: Chapter 106

TOBY.

"All tracks lead back to Aiden Daniels," the investigator I hired said.

I gaped at him, mouth open. "You've got to be kidding me right?"

When I thought he was done shocking me, he hit me with his findings continously.

"No, he's responsible for the attempts on your life and also linked to the incident where pictures of your wife... sorry your now ex-wife were released. Yasmin Blake is said to have aided him in your ex-wife's case and your son's kidnapping," he said.

And then something suddenly snapped in me. "Oh shit!"

I remember that Ruby was with him and all the questions I had burning inside me died and brought rise to new ones. Ruby was with a killer or an attempted murderer but it's the same thing, right? I had to get to her and fast. He wouldn't try to kill her right, he says he loves her, right? I was on my feet and halfway to the door before I remembered I wasn't alone in the room.

"Ruby, my wife, my ex," I rambled between pants.

"What's wrong with her?"

"She's with him, when I left her, she had planned to go out with him."

"Where are they now?" He was on his feet immediately.

"Please tell me she is safe," I pleaded.

"We don't know," he said. It was obvious he was hiding something.

"What aren't you telling me?"

"I unearthed a case from during his college days. He almost killed a lady, he was obsessed with her and when she didn't return his affection, he lost it. With that history and his history of being fond of the women you date," I listened on, my head reeling with the new information.

My mind flashed with images of him, choking the life out of Ruby or stabbing her. I jogged out the door, slightly aware of the heavy footsteps behind me. When we reached my car, he snatched my keys from my hand. In the confusion, I was still headed for the driver's seat.

"Let's switch," he said.

"Just pass me the keys."

"You can't drive in this condition." When I saw he wasn't backing down, I conceded to avoid wasting more time.

We weren't sure where they went but we decided to check his apartment first, before rolling out the search parties. He drove fast, zipping between cars, dodging traffic and still managing to keep up with most of the traffic rules.

While he drove, I called for backup at his instructions. My heart beat faster than I thought was humanly possible. I couldn't lose Ruby, even if she is not with me anymore, I just couldn't lose her. Not at all.

It took just a couple of minutes for us to arrive but it felt like an eternity. I unbuckled my seat and bolted out of the car even as he tried to explain why I should stay behind, I wasn't having any of it. I charged into Aiden's apartment unarmed but ready for battle.

I charged for the door which was open with a little too much force, and I almost came tumbling down. Everything looked well in the living room but then I could hear sounds of a struggle. I followed them and just by the hall that connected the living room and all the other rooms I found Ruby lying there. She still managed to keep throwing punches at Aiden who was on top of her, his hands on her neck, choking the life out of her while he tried to get her jeans off.

He was trying to rape her and probably kill her in the process!

Filled with rage, a strength I didn't know I possessed overcame me, and I charged towards him, I pushed him off Ruby and straddled him to the ground in one swift move but I didn't stop there. I stayed on top and delivered punch after punch, amidst shouts urging me to stop and not kill him.

"If you keep that up, you'll kill him."

That was the plan. More people arrived at the scene and it took a few of them to pry me away from Aiden's almost unconscious body. I struggled against them but they wrestled me to the ground, I even got tased. I looked like the aggressor in the situation, after Ruby and Aiden were taken to the ambulance. I got handcuffed and dragged off the scene. It took a lot of explaining from my private investigator to get them to understand that we had called them earlier.

Two officers were sent to detain Aiden at the hospital and I was finally released after a series of questions. I rushed to the hospital to see Ruby immediately they were done questioning me.

"Yes, I stumbled across a room in his house, there were videos of my house and parts of the building I frequent, playing on different screens," I heard Ruby speak. I was out of sight. I watched from the door of her hospital room as a police officer interviewed her.

"Has he ever been violent with you?"

"No, I've never seen him like that."

"So he attacked you, for the first time when you tried to flee?"

She nodded, then added," he pulled my arm then snatched me by the hair, he choked me as he began to try to get my clothes off, I thought I was going to die." She looked fragile and scared of even reliving the moment again. I wanted to reach for her and absorb all the hurt.

"Thanks for your cooperation ma'am, that would be all for now."

"Wait," she called out to the officer who was about to exit the room, as I stepped in.

"Why would he do such a thing?"

"The offender has the characteristics of obsession and Psychopathic ways." Psychopath my foot, the courts would see about this.

I rushed forward and hugged Ruby. She seemed so small and fragile in my arms. When we finally pulled away I noticed the marks on her throat. His fingers imprinted on her skin, I ran my fingers over them softly, wishing my touch could erase the violence that had been done to her.

"Where is Jeremy?" Her voice was still hoarse. The question ruined our little moment.

"He's with mum." Her face scrunched up at my words and I was getting ready for a lecture. She was yet to fully trust her and anyone else with Jeremy since the kidnapping.

"Okay," she sighed.

"So that's the first thing you ask, you didn't even ask how I'm doing," I said in a bid to lighten the mood. She smiled at me and then ran her hands over my bruised knuckles.

"Can you get that fixed up," she said, referring to my hand. I reluctantly left her side in search of a nurse.

When I came back with my knuckles wrapped she said, "I'm ready to go home now." It sounded like she was coming back to me. I looked at her in disbelief and she gave a small nod.
