Chapter 93: Chapter 93

Robin's POV

It's been days since I heard Camila and Ava's voice on the phone and I realized that I've missed them more than I thought.

I really hope in my heart they'll be back home soon. I walked across the field leading to the crescent woods. Words have got to me since I decided to investigate of their welfare just like Ava had told me and the news I got was troubling that I had to come see for myself.

I stood by a tree and saw the crescents in the most outrageous and devastating state. They look unkempt, malnourished and beaten by the sun. These were not the same people I knew that Ava led. They were carving a statue and from the look of it,it was a statue of Fernandez. I further withdrew back to the tree when I saw one of Fernandez men coming.

I turned to look again and heaved a sigh of relief when he was gone. I wondered what he would have done if he had seen me. My head will probably be on a stake but I knew I won't go down without a fight.

Then I saw Phil and some others carrying a load of straws. I gasped at the sight of him. Was this what they've subjected this great man to? How could they? He looked just like the rest in rags. His gaze fell upon me and he quickly went over to drop the load. I motioned for him to come over.

Reluctantly he walked towards me looking each of his sides in fear. It seemed that none of the guards had his time or were pretending not to see him.

"You shouldn't be here." He said the moment he got close to me. "They'll have you killed once they find you here." He said in fear.

"What have they done to you?" I asked. This wasn't the fearless man I've known over the years.

"They have something.. something they use in subduing we the warriors." He said to me.

I was puzzled. "What? What are you saying?" I asked.

"I can't explain it that well Robin," he said looking around in fear of being caught. "He even control the minds of some of the warriors and they usually join the other outcasts to inflict pain on us. We can go days without food and still yet work tenuously day and night." He said and I turned around when I heard the shrill cry of a woman. A man was whipping her with a horsewhip. I was bittered by the sight.

"This is the life we've come to since the last five years Robin. My spirit has been weakened and my pride has a man battered. There's no ray of hope for us anymore. These men and women no longer pray for a miracle just bread to eat for a day." He said.

"Many have died over the years due to the affliction and pains while some still bring forth babies in these critical times. Some of us just disappeared mysteriously. I still wonder if these babies will see the light of tomorrow. If they will get to know the story that the crescent pack wasn't like this before. Who would tell them? These broken men and women? Once they are of age again, they would be sold out as slaves to other packs just like the rest." He said his eyes looking distant. At this point I believe he wasn't scared of being seen by the guards. Perhaps they were all pretending not to see him.

"I bring news about Ava." I said to him and I saw his eyes lit and suddenly faded as he looked away. "Don't remind me of the woman who abandoned her pack." He said.

I shook my head. "Ava did not abandon the pack beta Phil. You know what happened all those years ago." I said to him.

"All those years ago?" He scoffed looking away in disdain. "She left without a glance at her people. She allowed us face our trials and tribulations alone without hope." He insisted adamantly.

I wanted to shake him but I couldn't. That would be total disrespect.

"Ava also has had her own fair share of trials Beta. Her life and the lives of her babies were threatened and she had to flee for safety. Would you have preferred hearing the death announcement of your niece's children?" I questioned him.

"Children?" He asked in bewilderment.

"Yes. She had a set of twins. That would be discussed later. Tell me about this mind control thing." I said to him.

"It's..." he began but was cut short by the fierce guard coming our way. "Run from here. Go now." He ordered and I retreated back.

I turned around to see him being pulled by the ear and tossed to the ground. A mighty man has fallen. Fallen into the enemies den. I thought to myself as I turn to my heels.

Fernandez POV

Derek walked into the pack house and towards the throne I was seated that the crescents carved out for me. I chuckled. It was such a glorious sight to see them scatter like mice under the sound of my voice or the staccato of my footsteps.

"I bring news my lordship." He said lowering his head. He was one of the crescents under my total control.

"Speak." I said to him.

"Men have sighted Robin outside the camp speaking with Phil. Give me your orders my lordship and I shall have his head brought to you." He said with his head still bowed down.

"Patience, Derek, you lack patience. That's one issue I have with you crescents." I said feigning annoyance.

"Apologies my lordship. What are your orders?" He asked.

"Let him speak with Robin, but cut him off when he's talking too much. We don't need him having lengthy conversations and exposing private things of the pack." I said to him and he nodded and left.

I smiled mischievously to myself. I believe this conversation with Robin will get to the ears of Ava. This will lure her back into the land. She can't possibly resist the cry of her people. Their cry for him. I chuckled. My plan was finally coming in together.

Ava's POV

The continuous ringing of the phone jolted me off the bed. Can't someone try to take a break from work? "Hello." I said after the last ring.

"Ava,it's Robin."

"My gosh Robin, you scared me. I wondered who wouldn't stop calling. What is it Robin, there's urgency in your voice."

"Ava,the crescents are in pains. Fernandez has subjected them to slavery." He said and I let out a gasp. My heart was ripped apart by his words. Was this what Fernandez has turn my people into?

"He sells the children born to other packs once they are of age. He trades the crescents for money despite the heavy punishments he gives them. The crescents are battered body and soul. When are you coming back Ava? Your uncle too is no longer the fierce man he use to be. He is now subjected to ridicule and torments just like the rest." He said and I crumbled on the floor with tears falling from my eyes down my cheek without my knowledge. I was too much in pain for my pack.

"Fernandez is doing lot of evil in the pack, Ava. When are you coming home? Your pack needs you." He said and I dropped the line unable to speak again as my heart was heavy with aches.
