Chapter 72: Chapter 72

Ava's POV

I stirred up in my sleep the next morning and fluttered my lashes open. I opened my eyes and there was Skye still asleep. I stared at him for a few seconds, watching him breathe in and out.

His eyes were closed and his lashes rested just above his eyelids. He looked peaceful in his sleep and also very attractive despite his disheveled state.

I ran my fingers along the lines of his chiseled jaw and smiled to myself as memories of us flashed through my mind. 'Just admit it' Isla whispered in my head. 'Admit what?' I asked her. 'I do not need to tell you. We both know the truth' she said again. Yes, we both knew the truth but I was yet to admit it to myself.

I placed a light kiss on his head and turned to leave the bed when he pulled me back. I gasped as I fell beside him. His eyes were still closed. "Where do you think you're going Hm?" He asked.

"You devil. I thought you were still asleep." I said to him.

"What a pretty nice assumption." He said still closing his eyes.

"Can I go now?" I asked him. He opened his eyes and stared at me lovingly.

"What?" I asked, feeling shy by his looks. He pulled me onto himself and I sat on top of him. "I'm still wondering what good I've done somewhere to deserve you despite your stubbornness." He said.

I raised a brow. "So you're saying I'm a pain in your flesh now uh?" I asked feigning annoyance.

He chuckled and pulled me closer. "You always think of the worst things about me right?" He asked as he feathered kisses on my lips.

"Speaking of worst things, you didn't answer my question last night," I said.

He groaned. "Why do you have to be so persistent and ruin the moment?" He asked.

"So now I'm a killjoy Hm?" I questioned feigning annoyance and getting off his body.

He pulled me back and pinned me beneath him. "Get off me, you big oaf." I struggled beneath him. "I went on about two occasions with Hadley and an occasional date night with Lucia. Happy?" He asked me.

"You've always been a pervert," I said to him. "Now get off me," I said in annoyance. He was doing to me what he did with them.

"Now my little wife, don't tell me you're upset with me." He said.

"Why shouldn't I uh? You're treating me the same way you treat them." I said to him. He sighed and looked hurt. "Why would you say that? I would never treat you the same way I treat my mistresses." He said.

I looked away from him. "You still have them around you?" I asked him.

He grinned devilishly. "Yes, just one." He said.

I frowned at him. "Who?" I asked.

"You." He said nuzzling his face in my hair.

"I'm your wife," I replied nonchalantly. He smiled smugly. "You're everything." He said and entangled his lips with mine.

Skye's POV

I walked down the stairs and saw Robin standing in the middle of the living room with a frown and a letter in his hand. "What is it?" I asked him and he turned around sharply. "Skye," he said and stared at the letter in his hand. "This came in for Ava." He said handing the letter over to me.

I took the letter from him and stared at it. I became angry too. Dalton. What did he want with Ava? He clearly stated in his letter that if Ava didn't come to see him tonight, he'd bring the war to her pack. The spineless peacock.

"Should the queen be informed?" Robin asked me and I shook my head. "This matter should not be told to Ava," I said to him.

Knowing Ava fully well, she'd go see him avoid any form of violence. "You'd send a message to Dalton to reschedule his time and make it look like Ava did. When he responds, we'll take it from there." I said to him and he nodded.

Michaelis walked into the pack house. "Alpha," he began and I gave Robin a nod and he excused us. "What brings you to the blood moons territory this noon Michaelis?" I asked him.

"Nothing much alpha. I believe we have a discussion." He said.

I raised my brow. "What would that be?" I asked him.

"It's not to be discussed in the open alpha." He said.

"Very well then, step into my office, and let's have this discussion," I said gesturing towards the study room and he followed me.

We got seated and I leaned back in my chair. "It seems to me you have a burden you want to let off," I said. He nodded and shrugged. "A patrol was taken by the Sheriff and his men in the woods and they discovered a large massacre of animals in the woods." He said.

I was puzzled and surprised. "A large massacre?" I asked. He nodded. "What has that got to do with you admiral? It's not your job to know this." I said and he nodded again. "You're right Skye. The Sheriff says this is going beyond him as he discovered some humans that were missing a few days ago, died in the woods." He said.

I exhaled. "What's their lead on this?" I asked. "There's none yet. An autopsy is been conducted on the deceased right now and the results will be out soon."

"When did this happen?" I asked.

"Just yesterday. You weren't informed because it didn't happen in your territory or close to it." He said.

"I assume you do not think of us responsible before?" I said to him.

"No, I don't believe the blood moons are barbarians." He said.

"I'll come with you to examine the scene," I said and he nodded, and together we left the pack house.

••••• ••••• ••••• ••••• •••••

I returned from the scene and Michaelis told no lie about the massacre. It was on an isolated woods I once believed the rogues roamed but now, all that was there was nothing but dead animals. I walked into the pack house and saw Camila. "Where's Ava?" I asked her.

"At the lake." She said and I turned around and headed out of the house and into the woods.

I got to the lake and saw her dipping her feet into the water. Winter was gone and the ice was melting. I rested on a tree and watched her.

Ava's POV

Robin had told me about Skye leaving the house for an important matter and I had decided to spend my time in the lake talking to myself and my babies. I felt a presence around me and I looked beside me and there was Skye leaning his masculine frame on one of the trees. I looked down so he won't see the smile that spread on my face.

"How long have you been there?" I asked him. "Long enough to see you have a beautiful smile on your face." He said as he walked closer to me.

"Yeah, probably the same words you said to the rest," I said scoffing.

"Now where are the so called rest? Is it you or them in my life now?" He questioned and I shrugged. He was right.

"You should leave the water now," he said.

"Why?" I asked him.

"There's a myth about a monster that lives underneath the lake and preys on beautiful women and drags them to his world to make them his." He said.

I stared at him. "Should I risk getting dragged by the monster in the lake or it would be a greater risk coming up on land to be in the arms of another monster?"

He laughed and held out his hand. "This monster has found his own prey." He said and I placed my hand in his and he pulled me up.

He stood there with me close to him just staring. I slapped his chest playfully. "Quit staring," I said to him.

He chuckled. "Beautiful things are meant to be seen and admired." He said to me.

"Close your eyes then," I said to him and he did.

"I still see beautiful things." He said still closing his eyes.

"What do you see?" I asked him inquisitively.

"You." He said and slowly opened his eyes and I saw a look of eternal bliss in them.

That was all it took, as my heart somersaulted over and over. This time I couldn't deny to myself anymore as his lips entangled mine in a passionate kiss and his arms encircled my waist. I closed my eyes and let his love take over. Right there I knew and admitted it to myself. I am in love. Yes, I am in love with the man right in front of me and there was no going back for me. I was his only.
