Chapter 65: Chapter 65

Ava's POV

The next morning I woke up with a splitting headache. The ones I expected to get after crying myself to sleep yesterday. I heard a knock at the door. "Inna minute," I said as I got off the bed placing a hand on my forehead. The headache was terrible. I opened the door and there Beth stood with excitement written all over her face. "The beta has woken up." She said excitedly.

"What?" I asked surprised as I rushed after her to uncle's room. We got to his room and there he was slowly rising to a sitting position on the bed. The elders were around him. I went towards him and sat by his side. "Are you okay?" I asked him and he nodded smiling.

"Mary told me the battle was victorious." He said. I gave him a weak smile. "It was uncle," I said.

He nodded and looked at me. "Why are you so here early? And where's that possessive husband of yours?" He asked, throwing questions at me. I felt a sharp pain in my heart as I gave a sad smile without responding to his questions. He signaled for everyone to leave and they did.

He turned to me. "What happened?" He asked like he knew something was wrong with me. Of course, something was wrong with me. I wasn't okay.

I put on my brightest smile. "We're over uncle," I said to him. He stared at me. "I do not understand your words, Ava. Be clear to me." He said.

"We've achieved the aim of why we got married so there's no point in staying together anymore," I said. "Ain't you happy uncle?" I asked him, noticing the blank expression on his face.

"Was this the plan you hatched?" He asked with a raised brow.

"Yes, uncle. Why do I feel like you are not happy? Isn't this what we all wanted? I'm free from the manipulation of father and the sacrifice I should have been for him. What's the need of being married anymore?" I asked him.

"And he let you go just like that?" He asked still having that expression on his face.

"He doesn't have a choice," I said shrugging.

"I've come to understand the young man, Ava. You pushed him away." He stated.

"Does it matter if I did? We're both enemies." I said shrugging again.

"Enemies? You both reunited the pack the moment you got married to each other. The unity was sealed the moment you both and the two packs fought side by side." He said pointing out the facts.

I looked away. "The marriage is void," I said remaining adamant.

"You've exchanged vows already Ava. You swore an oath to him on your wedding day. You just wanna turn back now?" He said, this time the blank expression was replaced with a thinking one.

"It's a decision I've made," I said. He sat there staring at me till I was forced to look away.

I walked down the stairs and then I saw Camila walking into the pack house. "Alpha." She said formally when her eyes met mine. I raised in brow. Was she trying to be formal because I was back in the pack house or what? I wondered.

"Camila. It beats my imagination to find you here at such an hour." I said to her as I got closer.

"I heard from Anna that you left the territory of the blood moon to return back to crescent woods. So here I am too, alpha." She said and slightly lowered her head.

"I see," I said advancing towards a sofa. "You should remain at the blood moon's house. After all, you have a wedding approaching very soon with Robin." I said to her as I sat crossing one leg over the other.

She shook her head. "My loyalty has always been to you alpha and besides, Robin and I will be having no marriage. Alpha Skye must not have known what he said the other day." She said.

At the mention of Skye, my heart skipped and my stomach flipped over and over again. "How's he?" I asked.

"The last I saw of him was when he asked of you last night." She said and I swallowed. Was he okay? Did he get home safely? I asked myself worriedly.

"You should return to the blood moon's house, Camila. I'm fine here." I said to her and she shook her head. "Wherever you stay, I stay. Wherever you go, I go." She said adamantly. I stared at her for a moment and gave in. She was quite adamant.

Later that day, the two policemen I had seen with uncle arrived at the crescent woods. I was seated outside the pack house when their car pulled up. "Good day ma'am." One of them said.

"Hello. How may I help you, officers?" I asked.

"Here to see Phillip White." He said again.

"I'm sorry, he's in no condition for visiting. If I'm permitted to ask, what for please?" I asked.

"You must be Ava. The female alpha of the crescents." He said after a careful assessment of me. I nodded. I wasn't good with cops but I hoped to try.

He lowered his head in respect. "It's about the shouts and cries in the forest yesterday. Folks believe things beyond the physical are happening down here." He said.

"My sincere apologies Mr.." I began unsure of his name. "Sebastian." He said with a little smile. "My apologies Mr. Sebastian. But I believe such events won't be happening again for a very long time. I'm hoping you'll take control of the uprising issues in town." I said to him.

He nodded. "Sure. But please, do ensure you inform Phil about our visits." He said and I nodded. "Thank you," I said and they walked away.

Later in the evening, a messenger from the blood moons came asking for Skye and he was told Skye was not in the crescents wood. I became worried after he left. Was Skye okay? Where was he?

Robin's POV

After Skye left the house since yesterday, he hasn't returned back to the pack house. When Anna told me he left for crescent wood, I believed everything was okay and he was going to return soon but seeing he hasn't returned, I sent a messenger to the crescents and I was told he left the previous night.

It was unlike Skye to stay out for a day or more without informing me. What was going on? Was everything okay? Even Camila was nowhere to be found since the cock crowed. Just then the entrance door to the pack house burst open and a disheveled Skye staggered in and fell to the floor.

"Skye," I called out and rushed towards where he was. He reeked of alcohol and he was burning up badly. He must have slept out in the cold. "Anna! Ria!" I called out. "What did you do Skye?" I asked him and all he did was mumble incoherently. The only word I could pick out of what he said was, "Ava."

Shortly, Ria and Anna rushed down the stairs. "What happened?" Ria asked in fear.

"If I did, I won't call you out here." I retorted. "Send a missive to crescent woods that the queen of the blood moon pack is needed here," I said and she nodded, running out of the pack house.

"Anna, boil some hot water and you," I said noticing a young man walking down the stairs. "Help me take the alpha to his room," I said and he rushed towards me, helping me up with Skye as we lifted him up towards his bedroom and Anna rushed into the kitchen. "Ava," Skye mumbled again followed by incoherent words. What happened between them?

Ava's POV

I sipped from the teacup in front of me when a messenger barged into the house.

"My queen, my queen." He said repeatedly in agitation. I dropped the teacup wondering what was going on. I got closer to him and noticed he was from the blood moon pack.

"What is it?" I asked and by now, the pack was coming out of their various rooms.

"It's the..the alpha," he stuttered.

"What about the alpha?" I asked in perplexity. Wondering what must have befallen him.

"He returned back this evening and he seems unwell. He's not moving." He said. Before I could think or wait for anything else he has got to say, I turned to rush towards the door. "Ava!" I heard uncle's voice. I didn't take a glance back. All I did was run out of the door, shift into Isla, and run toward the blood moon's territory in my wolf form. All I wanted was to make sure he was alright. I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to him because of me.

I arrived at the blood moon pack house and shifted back into a human. I saw Anna standing outside the pack house and I whistled to her. She saw me hiding behind the trees and immediately knew what I wanted. She rushed back in and a few minutes later, she returned with clothes.

I quickly donned the clothes she brought for me and rushed towards the pack house. "How's he?" I asked her.

"He's burning up." She said, right behind me. I opened the door and there he was on the bed covered up. I paused at the door, my heart beating. What right did I have to see him after breaking up our marriage?

I walked in slowly into the room and tears welled up in my eyes when I got closer to him. His appearance looked pale. Was this how it really felt to be hurt? Why was I feeling this way? I placed my hand on his forehead and his temperature was really high.

"Called the doctor?" I asked Robin. He nodded. "He's going to be here in a bit." He said.

I pulled a chair closer to him and dipped the towel beside the bowl of water, squeezed it, and placed it on his forehead to cool down his temperature. He mumbled some many things I couldn't understand. Just then the doctor walked in. The same doctor treated David.

He examined Skye for a while. My eyes rested on the face rested on the pillow. His eyes were closed and his lips pulled tight in a thin line. I swallowed. What pain have I brought upon him?

The doctor was done with his examination and gave a prescription. He said Skye needed to rest and still be covered up.

Robin walked the doctor out and Anna also left the room. I ran my fingers along the lines of his face. What was this feeling I had whenever I was around him? Was I in... I stopped myself from the thought. It was better I leave. I stood up to my feet and turned to walk away when his hand encircled my wrist. I looked back sharply and his eyes were half closed. "Please stay." He said softly and I swallowed back the tears that wanted to erupt and cascade down my eyes.
