Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Ava's POV

I stood by the window watching Skye give orders to Robin. He had insisted Robin took the pack back to the house because of the slight headache I complained of.

I watched him and admired his physique. He was irresistibly handsome with chiseled jaws and leaned muscles.

Out of nowhere, I saw Natasha. I haven't seen her for days and that was because I avoided her. She was always around Skye and that angered Isla and made me jealous.

I wished she could just go away but unfortunately, she wouldn't. She is a blood moon and this is her home.

He walked towards the other houses with Natasha right on his tail. I didn't want to worry about her. I had thoughts in my head I needed answers to.

I wondered about the wolf that had the snake's initials. Wolves didn't turn to snakes, that was impossible. But, how then was I connected to a serpent? I wondered.

I should have discussed all these with uncle before he left. Now I'd have to make sure I met him home once I get there. I would walk so that they'll get to the house before me. Uncle would have an explanation for me.

I wandered into the woods and took the route leading to the outskirts of town. The trees rustled and I knew I was being followed. The scent wasn't one I was familiar with.

"Show yourself," I yelled out loud. "I'm not afraid of you," I said again.

The trees rustled again and I looked behind me and saw a red wolf with the serpent mark on his neck. He looked exactly like the last one I saw. He snarled walking towards me. I retreated slowly avoiding the wolf. "Who are you and what do you want from me?" I questioned.

He snarled and advanced toward me but I avoided him.

Why I took to my heels I had no idea but I didn't know

what kind of wolf I was dealing with. The little I knew was he was a rogue wolf and I didn't want him getting to me.

I fell to the ground in my haste and he pounced on me. I averted its sharp claws by rolling to the other side.

Just then I felt my eyes take a turn revealing my wolf one's. It reflected the sapphire that I had during the wedding and I felt my fingers burn. Powers sprouted from my fingertips as I sent a blast of wind toward the wolf and it blew him to the other side.

He looked at me with fear and took to his heels. I gasped, inhaling as I breathed a sigh of relief. I stared at my fingers. I had powers. I was extremely shocked.

I returned back to the house looking for Skye. Robin indicated he was in the study room. I practically ran down the stairs and burst the door open without knocking.

Sitting on the table was Natasha. Skye was facing her and seated on the chair. Her hair was bent over his face and I was sure I interrupted something.

For a moment I forgot why I had come looking for him.

"What do you want?" Natasha snapped at me. I looked over at her hoping I could send this brat back to the hole she crawled out from.

"I need to talk to Skye," I said. She frowned at me. "He's busy. So get out." She said bitterly.

"Stop that Natasha," Skye said rising to his feet. " What is it, Ava?" He asked.

I took a deep breath before speaking. Natasha burst. "Of course, she has nothing to say. She's probably crafting a lie to get your attention. That's why she's just standing there." She said.

I inhaled again trying not to let her rile me up. " This isn't a good time, I'll come back some other time," I said and turned to the door.

"You better,I wish you'll just go back to where you came from." She said.

"Nat," Skye called out sternly and she frowned and walked away brushing me on my shoulder.

"Your lover is quite aggressive. She's lucky I have my mind occupied or I would have shown her the real Ava," I said to him.

He chuckled and smirked. "I have no doubt," he walked closer to me. "So what do you want to tell me.." He paused staring at me from head to toe. "And why are you covered in dirt?" He questioned.

"That's what I'm trying to tell you," I said exasperated.

"Go on." He urged me.

I explained to him all about seeing the rogue wolf again and the expression on his face was hard and serious. "Anna said she created a barrier." He said.

"She did. I was already out of the territory when it happened." I said to him.

"You don't get it, Ava. These wolves are outcasts and very dangerous. Over the years they've been thorns on our flesh." He said.

"Why?" I asked him.

He circled the chair. "We've outcastes one of our strongest warrior when he sought to murder me to become the alpha. He joined the rogues and since then we've known no peace. He later murdered my father and won't rest till I cease from breathing." He explained.

"But why is he following me or rather they?" I asked.

"I cannot say but I believe they know you're my wife." He said.

I rolled my eyes. "Married to you comes along with troubles I see," I said.

He stared at me and cleared his throat. "Now that you're been watched and on the target list, you have to be careful. You would not leave the premises of the pack house anymore." He ordered.

"What? You can't do that to me." I said staring wide eyed at him.

"It's for your own good." He said to me.

"Don't tell me what's good and what's not good for me. I can't sit idly in this place!" I said to him.

"You will do as I have said. I won't live long if I have your blood hanging on my neck. The least I can do is allow you take a blood moon along whenever you leave the territory." He said authoritatively.

"That's brutal of you!" I yelled and stomped out.
