Chapter 39: Chapter 39

Skye's POV

I haven't gone into a deep slumber when I heard movements in the room. I held Ava tight to myself knowing we were not alone.

I laid still not wanting to give this invader the impression that I was awake.

The invader tiptoed in a light manner but I could feel the invader's presence.

A hand stretched in front of me and I caught it. It was a man's hand. He was holding a knife and was trying to force it into my chest but I held his wrist tightly.

I pushed Ava away from me when I couldn't hold his wrist any longer and she jumped up frightened. I rolled over to the other side of the bed and he stabbed the bed.

Ava was already off the bed as I struggled with him. He was bent on making me draw my last breath. Ava went behind him and hit him on the head with the lamp stand.

He groaned and I was able to subdue him. "I know that voice," Ava said going to switch on the light. The incandescent bulb radiated the room with its light and shone on his face. I was surprised by who I saw but the height of Ava's surprise was greater than mine.

"Fernandez?" She said in bafflement.

Ava's POV

The morning sun rose in the sky and everyone was already gathered for the atrocity Fernandez attempted to commit.

The blood moons were not pleased and demanded that he be hanged.

"This is why the crescents can never be trusted."

"Just one time we decided to give them a chance and they proved themselves unworthy."

They murmured among themselves. I was embittered by Fernandez's atrocity. How could concede to such an abominable act in his mind?

Isla was angry. What if he had succeeded in killing her mate? She would have ripped him apart.

Fernandez stood with his head held up high without remorse. Did he think I was going to defend him? Uncle was beyond ashamed and angry about his behavior.

"This act of the crescent shall not be let to slide by," Robin said. His eyes were blinded by fury. It was obvious he valued Skye very much.

Skye closed his eyes and opened them. "I haven't come to a conclusion on what should be done to him but he'll be locked up in the dungeon till further notice," Skye said and walked away.

Uncle walked up to Fernandez. "What shame you've brought upon the crescents name," he said and walked away too as they dragged Fernandez to the dungeon.

I followed them to the dungeon and watched them lock him up.

He held the bars of the dungeon and stared at me.

"Why did you do it?" I asked him.

"I tried to, I didn't do it but I wished I did," he said without remorse.

I walked up to the prison bars. "What exactly is your problem, Fernandez? I do not understand you anymore." I said to him.

"You changed me, Ava," he said.

"What?" I was surprised.

"You changed me when you decided to marry that bag of oat and leave me," he said in a very bitter tone full of hate.

"What are you trying to say?" I asked. He was confusing me.

"We had a good relationship going on till he came along and all he ever does is hang around you and touch you," he said pissed off.

I frowned at him. "That doesn't explain why you attempted to kill him," I said to him.

"Don't you get it, Ava, don't you?"

"I do not and want you to explain it."

"Why don't you get it? Why don't you get it that I've been in love with you ever since I know what the word love was called." He burst out.

I moved back a bit trying to understand what he said or maybe I didn't hear him well.

"What did you say?" I asked him.

"Remember when I told you I was in love with someone and would tell you at the right time?," he asked and I stared at him. "It was you. I was in love with you and I'm still in love with you," he said and I stood there speechless.

Skye's POV

Robin stormed into the study in anger. "What was that about?" he asked bitterly.

"What is it, Robin?" I asked him.

"The whole pack should have been thrown out and the perpetrator hanged," he said.

I stood up from the chair and walked towards him. "You saw what went out there. One mistake of one person doesn't mean the whole pack should suffer for it. Robert the first did so and it brought nothing but hatred and pain to us. I'm not ready for another massive war that would expose us." I explained to him.

"If not for this cursed marriage you called a blessing, this crescent alpha,"

"Watch your tongue Robin, you're talking about my wife your queen," I said to him.

"I know I'm talking about your wife but she's not my queen," he said angrily.

"The crescents no longer have the fear of the blood moons in them," Robin said with a disapproving look on his face.

"Why should they?" I asked sarcastically.

"It's all your fault and you know it. If it hadn't been for this ridiculous plan to marry the crescent alpha, we won't be here and we'll still have the respect we earned. The riffraff wouldn't have had the guts to try and murder you." he said through gritted teeth.

"Enough of your talk about respect. Remember I'm the alpha and I know what's good for my pack."

"Yes you are alpha but you're slacking on your role and it's not good for the pack."

"Don't tell me what's good for the pack!" I yelled angrily.

"I will, I am your beta and have the interest of this pack at heart. I would not stand here and watch you tarnish your image and be called a weakling because of a woman!" he yelled at me. We were at loggerheads.

I tightened my hand into a fist. I was trying to hold myself from punching him hard in his face. Our heads were close to each other. Eyes spitting fire.

"Who's alpha?" I demanded challenging him menacingly.

"You," he said lowering his voice.

"Good. Do not speak to me in a such manner ever again. I'll give Fernandez the punishment he deserves and you will no longer have a say in this matter." I said to him in a low angry voice.

"And in the nearest future, any foul words from you about Ava would not be condoned. From today, you respect her and treat her like the queen. Am I clear on that?" I demanded.

Hesitantly, he nodded. "Yes."

"Leave," I said to him and he walked away. He bumped into Ava as he opened the door and he slightly lowered. "My apologies," he said and walked away.

Ava walked up to me. "What did you say to him?" She asked.

I shrugged. "Nothing," I said. She noticed I was not in a good mood and she didn't stress about the issue.

"Anna and I are going to the pack house for the creating of the barrier," she said to me.

"Go to the car and wait for me there. I'll be right behind you." I said to her.

"Okay," she said and walked away.

Ava's POV

He wasn't in the right frame of mind and it was written all over him. I didn't watch him accompanying us when he was angry but I said not a word. The argument with Robin must have been a heated one and I didn't want to add to whatever went on between them.

I stood by the car with Anna and he finally came outside.

"Let's go," he said opening the car door and getting in. Well yes, he was really upset and it was better I kept my lips sealed than rile him up.

Anna and I got into the car and he drove off.

The drive to the house was silent. A very unusual thing when around him. I wanted to know what happened between them but I kept quiet. He would tell me at the right time.

We got to the territory of the pack house and everyone got down from the car. We went around the house to survey the environment and ensure no intruder was around.

"Clear," Skye said and I nodded.

"Go ahead Anna," I said to him.

She stood in front of the house and cast the cloaking spell. No one would be able to tell if there was a house there. We walked to the front where the crescents marked our territory and Anna created a barrier. She wasn't sure how long the cloaking spell will hold but the barrier could last till infinity except one finds out what was used to create it and break it.

With the barrier, the rogues and the demon king would not have access to the crescents as long as they stay within the territory.

"I think a barrier should be created in the blood moons territory too," Skye said leaning on the car.

"I have done that," Anna said.

"When?" I asked her.

"When performing the spell with your blood," she said to me.

"Well that done, we have no cause for alarm. All we have to do is wait till the blood moon arises." Skye said.

"And when will that be?" I asked.

He pulled me into his arms. "That I don't know, love," he said to me.

"I thought you were too upset to play lovey today," I said to him and I felt a lump in my throat.

He chuckled. "You miss my smooches," he said, wrapping his arms around me. "The thing is love, I find comfort in your arms," he said burying his face in my hair as he let out a sigh.
