Chapter 37: Chapter 37

Ava's POV

It was unbelievable but coming from a witch, one should expect different things. I left the girls and saw Fernandez with a hard glare expression on his face sitting outside one of the houses on the blood moons territory. The blood moons had a row of four houses in their zone. The center one was the pack house which belonged to the alpha and he also accommodated a few of the pack in the house.

He stood up when he saw me. "Ava," he called my name and I stopped. "What do you want to say this time?" I asked him.

"You don't have to be harsh anytime you want to talk to me, you know?" He said which got me irritated.

"Do you think you deserve any word of kindness after what you said to Camila?" I asked him.

"Are you going to start being hostile to me because of her?" he said in that downgrading voice of his again.

"You know what Fernandez? You're sick in the head. You keep blaming others for your own faults. You broke our friendship and here you are now trying to put the blame on others." I said to him.

"I'm not.." he began and stopped when he caught a scent. He sniffed. "Your aura has changed, Ava. You now have the scent of the blood moons heavily on you. Did you..."

I cut him short. "And how has that become your business?" I asked him in annoyance.

"I can't believe this," he said in a disappointed and exasperating voice. "With all your claims of hatred for this pack, you still opened your legs cheaply for the blood moon to have a taste of you," he said and I slapped him hard on his cheek with his face looking the other way.

"How dare you call me cheap?" I asked him all riled up. "The last time I checked, I wasn't sleeping around with any of the pack members or you. You don't have the right to call me names." I said and walked away in anger. The foolish doltish crescent. I hissed.

The sun disappeared behind the sky leaving the heavens to pitch dark and twinkling little stars.

I walked down the street towards the house that was once Anna's home. She had told me about a grimoire that belongs to her mother and would help her cast a cloaking spell over the crescent territory and they won't be found as long as they stayed within the walls of the pack house. Anna could not return to her mother's house for fear of the humans getting to her again. I took it upon myself to find her mother's grimoire without her knowledge.

I didn't inform anyone where I was headed. Not uncle or even Skye. I had a feeling I was being watched and I stopped. I looked behind me and saw no one. I knew I wasn't hallucinating.

I kept walking towards the house and finally got there. Luckily for me, the door was opened. I walked into the house and it was dark. I switched on the light and went up the stairs.

Following the information Anna gave me, I turned towards the left door of one of the rooms. The wind rustled in the trees and I could hear a howl coming from a distance.

I walked into the room and went towards the shelves to search for the spell book but I didn't find it. Anna told me her mother always left the grimoire on the shelf but where was it?

I ransacked the top shelf again and the drawers but I still couldn't find it. Just when I was about to give up, something caught my eye under the bed and I stretched out for it. I pulled a stuffy book from underneath the bed and dusted the book that has become dusty and covered in cobwebs.

I heaved a sigh of relief when I found out the book was what I was seeking for. I turned to leave the room when I heard something hiss out, I looked behind me and saw the grenade. I didn't know who threw the grenade and I didn't want to know as I took to my heels. I was out the door and on the first step of the staircase when the grenade blew and sent me flying down the stairs.

I coughed tremendously at the effect of the smoke from the grenade. I raised my head and faintly saw a figure standing at the top of the stairs.

My instincts told me to run and I gradually rolled towards the door as the figure approached.

I panicked. He wore a skull mask which looked frightening and he was very tall. I stood up, my feet wobbly as I struggled with the doorknob but it wouldn't open. I panicked as the figure got closer. Finally, the door gave way and I scrambled out the door and fell into a pair of strong arms.

Skye's POV

I was worried when I returned to the pack house and didn't find Ava. Her uncle had no idea where she went neither did Camila. I waited for a few more minutes and Anna came to me and told me where Ava could possibly be. I immediately left the house and went towards the home of Anna.

From a distance, I saw smoke rising from the back of the house and I drove at top speed toward the house. I stepped out of the car in a hurry and opened the door and she fell into my arms.

She looked up at me and for the first time, I could see she was relieved to see me.

"What's.." I began to question but she cut me short. "Get me out of here," she said panicking and I swooped her in my arms and advanced towards the car.

"Hurry, he's behind us," she said and I walked briskly to the car. Who was behind us, I wanted to know.

I placed her in the car and got into it too. Adjusting the rearview mirror, I saw a tall figure in the shadows and I turned on the gear and drove out of there.

She was quite shaken and I didn't want to question her despite being very angry at her for going out alone at this odd hour.

We arrived at the pack house and her uncle, Camila, and Anna were relieved to see her. "Oh, thank goodness you're.." Camila began but I interrupted her.

"Goodnight to you all," I said grabbing her hand and pulling her along with me up the stairs.

We got to the room and she took her hand away from mine. "Don't come questioning about what I did out there, it is none of your..." she began to rant and I held her close, hugging her tight.

"You scared me out there, Ava, I was worried sick about you," I said. I was going to scold her later for her irrational behavior but right now I was glad she was alive.

Ava's POV

I had believed he was going to scold me and I didn't care as long as I got what I went for. But, I was surprised to see him hugging me tightly.

"I'm angry at you but I am grateful nothing happened to you," he said still holding me tight.

I felt a shiver down my spine. Why was he so emotional now?

"Who was that?" I asked him and he pulled away. "I really have no idea about who the figure is," he said.

I placed the grimoire on the desk in the room. "Is that what you went to get?" he asked me and I nodded. He pulled me into his arms again. "You look a mess. Let's fix you a bath," he said. I raised a brow. "You want to bathe me?" I asked.

"Is that wrong?" he asked me.

"Very wrong," I replied.

He took me in his arms bridal style and chuckled. "Unfortunately, I always do what is wrong," he said taking me to the bathroom. He placed me in the bathtub and slowly undressed me. Why I felt comfortable with him doing so, I couldn't comprehend.

In a few seconds, I was standing naked in his presence and I felt shy as he ran the water warm for me.

I lay in the bathtub already filled with water and soap. "Thank you, I'll take it from here," I told him but he refused.

"I'll be here to watch you," he said taking off his boot and leaning on the bathtub.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stepped out of the bathtub and he was waiting on me with a towel. He cleaned me dry and handed my nightwear to me.
"Did my possible death turn you loveable all of a sudden?" I asked him in sarcasm and he smiled. For the first time, his smile felt genuine and I felt a weakness in my heart.
I wore my dress and went to the bed.
"The possible thought of losing you is what I can't think of," he said laying beside me. His arms were around me as he kissed my forehead.
I closed my eyes in slumber hoping I wasn't going to get attached before my big plan.
