Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Skye's POV

"Rogue wolves," I said looking away with a scowl on my face.

"What?" She asked baffled by my words and the deep frown on my face. I wondered if the rogue wolves knew she was my mate and decided to attack her to get back at me.

I looked back at her. "I don't know why a rogue wolf attacked you but this is real, Ava. If you doubt me so much, why don't you ask your uncle?" I said to her.

"Ava, are you okay in there?" I heard Phil's voice at the door.

"I'm, I'm fine." she stuttered.

She said to me. "Leave now."

"You have to ask Ava, to at least find out if all that I've said so far are lies," I said, releasing my hold on her.

"I can hear voices in there, Ava. Open the door or I'll force my way in," he said again. I walked towards the window.

"Ask," I said for the last time before swinging onto the branch of the tree outside her cabin.

Ava's POV

"Ava, open this door at once," Uncle demanded. Making efforts to break down the door.

I took a deep breath and went towards the door. I opened it and uncle brushed me aside as he went searching for who was in my room. "I heard you talking to someone. Who was in here?" he demanded.

"No one was here uncle," I said to him.

"Don't lie to me," he warned.

I stared at him for a moment. "Who's a demon king?" I asked and he stared at me in shock which made me understand that he knew what I was asking him about.

"Where did you hear that from?" he asked me.

"So, it's true?" I asked not taking my eyes away from him.

He shrugged. "I do not know what you're talking about," he said.

"I refuse to be lied to uncle. Who's this demon king and what does he have to do with me? What danger am I in?" I demanded all at once.

Phil's POV

I was flabbergasted by her sudden question and outburst. It's been nineteen years since I've heard anyone mention the name, demon king. "What does the demon king have to do with white wolves?" she asked another.

"Stop all this nonsense, Ava, who has been feeding you with such ludicrous information?" I asked her. I was quite shaken, how was I going to tell her?

"Your facial expressions and body language betray you a lot uncle. You know something. You know a lot about what I'm asking. What is this ridiculous thing about a prophesied marriage?" She said moving closer to me.

I straightened up. "Go to bed, Ava, these are all figments of your imagination," I said to her but she wouldn't let it be.

She stood in my way. "I won't let this be till I get answers," she said persistently.

"Do not overstep your boundaries, Ava," I warned.

She raised her hands in exasperation. "Why should I be kept in the dark? Why shouldn't I know about this? Talk to me uncle, talk to me. Is this prophesied marriage true? Answer me!" She yelled unrelentingly.

"Yes it is true, Ava, it is true!" I blurted out unable to refrain myself any longer. "The prophesied marriage is real and true," I said lowering my head as she stared at me in shock.

Ava's POV

I couldn't believe it. Skye was right after all. "Are you..." I began but was unable to form words.

Uncle sighed. "The prophecy came to your mother when you were still but an infant in your cradle," he began explaining. "You were yet to undergo your first change but the moon goddess knew already you were a pure breed of white wolves," he said.

I swallowed the lump in my throat. "And the prophesied marriage?" I asked.

"The marriage is said to unite both packs, the blood moons, and the crescents. It is said that the marriage will give you the strength you need to defeat the demon king. You are the moon goddess chosen one to get rid of the demon king's era." he said.

I grabbed a chair to keep myself from stumbling. This was difficult to take in. "Your mother didn't believe the prophecy and when you had your first change, she always spotted you with ink. She didn't want to lose you. She made me swear not to tell you anything about it. Her greatest fear was that the blood moons would never treat you well." Uncle said.

I had always wondered why mother did so but now I knew why. "What's this demon king all about?" I asked.

Uncle Phil swallowed hard. I could see this was hard for him to say. "He's a demon who feast on white wolves but mostly on a pure breed. Every one hundred years, the crescents produce a white wolf but they never live for long. He kills them. That's where his source of power, strength and lengthened years come from." "This means that not only I am in danger, but the whole pack is also," I said, realization dawning on me. The crescents were the true descendants of white wolves but they were not pure ones. Only I was fortune to be or should I say ill fated? I was in danger, we were all in danger. "If this is true, why has none of the pack members gone missing?" I asked him.

"I do not know that. But,for his name to suddenly come up again, then,he's around lurking somewhere." he said.

"Have you witnessed a massacre of his before?" I asked him and he looked away.

"No, I never did." he said. I knew he was hiding something but I didn't push it.

I've learnt enough truth for one night. "How can this calamity coming be avoided?" I asked him.

"A marriage between the alpha of the crescents and the alpha of the blood moons," he said and stared at me. "What are you thinking, Ava?" he asked in curiosity and suspicion.

If this was real,it meant I was in danger and so was my pack. I straightened up and walked towards the window. "I'll marry the blood moon alpha." I said. It sounded strange to my ears and to uncle's.

"What? You can't be serious," uncle said in astonishment. "Your mother didn't want you to know this so you won't do the unthinkable. Are you going to let all her protection, all my hard work to keep you safe go to waste?" he demanded and I turned sharply to him.

"For how long will you protect me? For how long will I escape this?" I asked him in anger. "Would you rather watch me die than get married to our enemy? Would you prefer to see the pack you struggled so hard to unite die without trying your best to save them when you've got the chance?" I demanded being agonistic. "I'll lay down my life for you and the pack Ava," he said with naked pains in his eyes.

I turned back to the window looking up at the starry sky. "I'm not going to be that kind of alpha that will leave her people suffering just to get back at an enemy. Today, I Ava White, solemnly promise to get married to the blood moon alpha." I said in so much authority and determination and I knew, there was no turning back for me.
