Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Hell, he knew how her mother was. She had a number of wardens, even the Alpha of the pack. He recalled Liara once mentioning that her mother could go to any extent to talk with her or any of her siblings if she would be feeling worried for them.
He received the call to finally talk with her, “Hello? I’m sorry to disturb you, sweetie!! I was just getting worried for you because I saw a nightmare where you were in pain. Are you all right?” Sophia Haysbert asked in one go.
Theodore’s throat dried, hearing her voice, and he wondered how her mother realized that her daughter was in pain when she was miles away. Was this how a mother’s instinct works?
“Lee?”
“I’m sorry, Ma’am. I found this phone while cleaning the washroom.” Theodore replied. “You can talk with your daughter tomorrow. I will return her phone early in the morning,” he added.
“Oh, okay. Who’re you?” Sophia asked.
“I’m a Janitor in the pack.”
“Oh! Thank you so much, son.” Sophia said, on which Theodore’s fist clenched because, for the first time, someone called him ‘SON.’ “I’m sorry for disturbing your sleep then.” She added.
“It...It’s fine, Ma’am.” Theodore mustered all his courage to reply to her. Normally, he would have ignored it if someone had been at Sophia’s place, but he just couldn’t.
“I know it’s not my business, but are you crying?” Sophia asked, sensing his heavy voice.
“No.” Theodore shook his head and sat in a relaxed position. He couldn’t tell why he was talking to that woman unnecessarily. Or maybe he wanted to talk with someone at that moment.
“Ah. Lies.” Sophia scoffed. “I have raised five children and run a chain of NGOs. So, I have experience handling more than thousands of children.” She added and poured water into the glass. “I’m not feeling sleepy anyway. You can talk to me if you want because sometimes talking to a stranger is much easier because they don’t really judge you. Or even if they do, we don’t really care about it.”
“I don’t talk much.”
“Okay then. Good night.” Sophia said and didn’t disconnect the call and waited from the other side to disconnect the call, but Theodore didn’t disconnect the call either. “You’re Stubborn, hmm? Now tell me, what is going on in your mind?” She questioned.
“Why do you think that I will tell you?”
“Because you haven’t disconnected the call yet.” Sophia pointed out. Theodore sighed and spoke.
“I miss my mother as well, as I’m mad at her for lying to me because she told me that she would be watching me from above.” Theodore finally opened his mouth.
“That’s because she didn’t want to freak you out by saying that she will always be with you in you. Why are you searching for her up in the sky when she is in your heart?”
“I don’t want her just in my heart. I want her to be with me, but I know that’s impossible because she isn’t alive.” Theodore complained.
“A parent is reborn when they have a child. They can see their childhood, their behavior, their habits, their smile, and everything in that child. So, your mother is still alive in you. For example, tomorrow I will be gone, but whoever will see Liara, they will say that she is just like her mother, not because she looks like me but because she is just like me, kind and compassionate. She will keep me alive in her value and behavior.” Hearing this, Theodore disconnected the call. Sophia looked at her phone and kept it aside.
‘God!! Please take care of that child.’ Sophia prayed and missed her mother, who was in this world. So, somewhere she knew what he was feeling at that moment, but unlike her, she could sense that he had no one around him.
She stayed there for a while, thinking about the conversation with the stranger, until Bradon wrapped his hand around her neck. “What are you doing here?”
“Nothing. I’m just worried about Lee.” She replied.
“I called her a few hours before. She didn’t receive the call.” Sophia was about to tell them that her phone was with some Janitor, but her voice died when she heard Brandon continuing. “...but received a text from her saying that she will call me in the morning.”
‘How can someone send that message when her phone is locked? Or the Janitor knows the password to Lee’s phone, or did her phone gets stolen by someone? Well, I doubt that’s the case because when the phone is stolen, then, then the first thing that thief does is switched off the phone and throw the sim card.’
‘Now the question is how that Janitor knows the password of Lee’s phone?’ She wondered.
“Don’t worry about her. She will be fine.” Brandon said to which Sophia nodded her head, but she didn’t reveal anything about the conversation with that stranger.
