Chapter 57: Chapter 57
Everyone gathered in the large hall, and in front of them stood the Monk, Damon and Maisie. The Priest read out words from the scroll to repeat.
Maisie was the happiest woman on earth, while Damon on the other hand couldn’t stop worrying about why Megan was yet to get to his marriage ceremony.
Damon never felt any surge of happiness, but he just had to do it for his parents, the king and queen.
“We promise in front of every kind of us present today, to cherish our bond and love each other till eternity.” The monk uttered, waiting for them to repeat these words.
Maisie opened her mouth to speak, but realized that Damon was being hesitant again. All the words they were asked to repeat seemed like a burden to him. It was more like he was forced to say these words.
She didn’t care, because what she had always wanted was right before her now, and there was no turning back.
“Please repeat after me.” Damon heard the voice of the monk from a distance, throwing him back to reality once more.
It was the third time he had zoned out while they stood in front of the people. Damon had no idea why he kept doing that, but one thing he was sure of was that marrying Maisie wasn’t what he truly wanted. It was all for his parents.
While the monk proceeded to call out the words again, murmurings began to circulate in the congregation, and this caused discomfort to the king and queen.
“Why does Damon keep acting like this? He is in front of people. Can’t he compose himself?” Queen Marlena uttered in a whisper to King Talos.
“What did you expect, Marlena? We are forcing him to do what he doesn’t want. I didn’t expect less from him. We should be grateful he even attended the marriage rites to begin with.” King Talos responded, causing her to heave a deep sigh of frustration.
“And where is that rebellious Megan anyway? I should have sent her out of the palace with that Belinda girl. She knows nothing but that girl.” Marlena muttered in anger, shaking her head as folded her arms on her chest.
Megan, Belinda and Clara got to the main door at the hall, and they exchanged looks.
“It’s time, Belinda. I need you to raise your head up high and fear no one. No one is going to touch you in front of so many people.” Megan uttered.
“Are you sure about that or you just think so?” Clara answered, causing Megan to heave a sigh.
“I’m sure about that, okay? Let’s go in now.” She retorted, and Belinda nodded, letting out a deep breath as Megan opened the door and walked into the hall.
The sound of the door opening caused a distraction from behind the hall, but it didn’t get to the front because of how big the hall was.
Walking down the aisle with Belinda and Clara behind her, Megan drew more attention to herself, and murmurs began to surge from the back.
“Isn’t that the red-furred wolf?”
“That is the monster that was chased out of the kingdom.”
“She is pregnant!”
“What?! Who owns the baby?”
“What the hell is she doing here?”
The murmurings filled Belinda’s ears as she heard every single word they said.
The murmurings grew louder, catching the attention of the monk himself, and causing a pause in the marriage vows.
“What is going on?” King Talos asked no one in particular, and as he and his wife turned back to see what was happening, they saw Megan and those that were with her.
“Belinda?” Queen Marlena called in surprise as she watched her get closer and closer to them.
“Guards! Get this woman out of here!” King Talos yelled.
But just before any of them could get any closer, Damon’s eyes locked with Belinda, and instantly, he let out a loud groan, grabbing his head in his hands.
“Damon!” Almost everyone called, rushing to where he was, including Belinda.
“No! Stay away from him!” Marlena yelled as she grabbed Damon who was already falling to the ground.
Memories and voices came rushing into his head like a mighty wind. It was like he traveled in time, and that void part of his life became filled up again.
His heart kept beating very fast in his chest as he opened his eyes to look at her again. Everyone next to him was speaking in loud voices, but he heard none of them.
His ears were itching to hear only one voice, and that was the voice of the woman that caused this sudden change in his body.
Belinda couldn’t get her eyes off Damon as she feared that she had caused him pain in some kind of way.
“Damon.” She called softly, and instantly, she saw Damon’s eyes brighten. The guards the king called on grabbed Belinda, ready to get her out of the hall.
Immediately, Damon stood up from the ground, and ignoring everyone that was around him, he walked to Belinda, with his gaze locked with hers.
‘Her voice. I could hear her soft, angelic voice amidst the others.’ He thought as everything was beginning to make sense.
“Get that woman out of here!” King Talos yelled again.
“No! She goes nowhere!” Damon roared in anger, causing everyone in the hall to gasp. The anger in his eyes after hearing his father was enough to burn down the whole hall.
This was shocking to everyone that watched what was going on.
Getting to where Belinda stood, he raised his hand and slowly touched her cheeks.
“Belinda?” He called with tears heating up his eyes, and Belinda nodded, tears streaming down her cheeks too. His eyes moved down to her belly, and he looked at her again, like he was asking for her permission.
Belinda nodded slightly, and he reached for her protruded belly, softly resting his hand on it. He slowly went down on his knees, and this shocked everyone in the hall again.
“What is he doing?! Someone stop him!” Maisie cried as she feared that what she had always wanted was beginning to crumble right in front of her.
“Queen Marlena, please do something. It’s our wedding!” Maisie cried out.
“Damon…”
Damon raised his hand, cutting his mother short. Queen Marlena gulped, swallowing whatever she had to say.
She knew it was over. Mr. Theron had warned them that they should make sure they never see each other again, or once they see, they’ll never be separated, ever again.
“Are we just going to let him embarrass us in front of the people?” Queen Marlena asked King Talos, who was carried away by what Damon was doing.
Placing his ear on Belinda’s stomach, he heard its heartbeat. Its beautiful rhythm broke another source of happiness in Damon, and he let out a wide, genuine smile. One he never had since Belinda left the palace.
He stood to his feet again and embraced Belinda tightly. “I’m sorry, Belinda. I’m sorry for everything. I remember everything now. I should have been there for you.” He mumbled as tears rolled down his cheeks uncontrollably.
The murmurings in the congregation grew louder, and some of them even started leaving the hall.
Damon let go of Belinda and held her hand. He walked back to the monk and stood in front of him.
“This is the woman I want to marry. Let’s start over.” He uttered in a strong, affirmative tone.
Megan and Clara exchanged looks and hugged each other tightly.
“We did it!” They said happily.
“That isn’t going to happen! That is your wife!” King Talos smacked, pointing at Maisie, who was already in tears.
Damon clenched his jaws and looked at his father.
“You don’t expect you to still open your mouth to speak, father. After the evil you’ve done. If you don’t let this happen, then I’ll tell everyone what you did to us. Let them finally know the evil and wicked man you are.” He uttered, and King Talos’ eyes widened.
He never thought a day in his life would come when he was going to be threatened by his own son. He kept quiet and looked away from them.
“I won’t be here to see this.” He uttered as he made his way out of the hall.
“What? So you’re just going to leave? Are we not going to stop him?” Queen Marlena uttered, following behind him.
“Can’t you see the look on his face? Are you that clueless, Marlena?! Has he ever acted this way before?! With the rage in him, if you try something stupid, you’re going to regret it. Get your girl out of there or she’ll regret it too. I don’t know why you even like that girl anyway. She doesn’t seem trustworthy to me. I’m out of here.” King Talos said to her in rage as he walked out of the hall.
Ignoring their drama, Damon walked back to the monk again. “Please proceed with the marriage rites. I don’t care if they are not present. As far as I’m concerned. I have no parents.” Damon stated, his eyes locked with Belinda’s.
‘I am not going to make the same mistake again. I’ll stand up for you and protect you with my life.’ He thought as he stared at her.
With a smirk on her face, Clara moved closer to Maisie and said; “If I was you, I’d start running away from this palace, because the Moon knows that the only thing keeping me from cutting you open and removing your guts is that I don’t want to ruin Belinda’s perfect wedding. Run now, or be ready to die immediately after the Monk is done.”
