Chapter 56: Chapter 56

Getting to the palace, Megan led Clara and Belinda in through the back door, sneaking them in.

The palace was so busy with the preparations for the Prince’s wedding that they hardly noticed their entry.

“Where are we going now?” Clara asked, turning to look at Megan. They hid behind a wall; watching how the people walked to and fro.

“We need to get to Mr. Theron, I believe he can help us.” She suggested, causing Belinda’s eyes to widen.

“What? You just told us Mr. Theron was the one that placed a spell on Damon and made him reject and forget me. Why would he help me now?” Belinda asked.

“I have spoken to him, okay? He has always regretted what he did, and he told me he had to because of my father. But now, he’s ready to do anything because he doesn’t want to be the one to change fate. So he’ll help. I promise.” Megan reassured them.

Belinda and Clara exchanged looks and nodded at each other.

“So what do we do now?” Clara further asked.

“You two need disguises. I have some in my chamber. Just some clothes to cover your faces.” Megan told, and they both nodded.

“Wait here. I’ll be back soon.” Megan added, hastily walking out of the hiding place and heading to her room.

While we were out of sight, Clara and Belinda kept hiding. Belinda sat on the floor and rested her back on the wall.

“Are you alright? Do you feel tired?” Clara asked in worry, and she shook her head.

“No… no, I’m not. I’m just worried. I’m not sure how my reaction is going to be when I finally lay eyes on Damon. It’s been almost eight months? I never prepared myself for this meeting.” Belinda uttered.

“So you want to go back now? Belinda, this is your chance to get your man. Like you heard, he was hypnotized and made to forget you, it was never his fault, and that is why he couldn’t fight for your love. It’s time you fought for it yourself. Though it seems pretty dangerous, especially for a pregnant woman.” Clara retorted, and Belinda shook her head.

“You know I’m not easily scared by people anymore, but one thing scares me. What if his love for me has been wiped off completely from his subconscious?” Belinda asked worriedly, locked her gaze with Clara’s.

“It will always be a question until you get an answer, Belinda. When you meet him; you’ll find out.”

Megan returned shortly with two short scarves and gave it to them. “Tie them around your head and neck. Then you’ll put this one.” Megan uttered, raising two sunglasses in her hands.

“What? where did you get that?” Clara asked as they began to put on the disguise.

“What do you think? It’s the palace. We have things other people don’t.” Megan answered, and Clara nodded.

After they had tied the scarves, covering part of their faces, they went ahead to wear the sunglasses, giving them more secrecy.

“Won't people see our dressing as weird?” Belinda further asked, and Megan shook her head.

“Lots of things have changed in the palace these past few months. Plus, everyone is busy with the wedding. They’ll hardly have time for us.

“Now, I’ll take the lead, and you’ll follow. Not too closely too. You two can pretend to be in a conversation but keep your eyes on me. We are going to the library, Belinda. I believe you haven’t forgotten the way.” Megan uttered.

“You said a lot of things have changed.” Belinda asked, and Megan scoffed.

“That hasn’t changed. Now, let’s go.”

Megan headed out of their hiding place again, and after she took long strides away from them for a few seconds, Clara and Belinda also headed out.

Belinda’s eyes rolled and scanned the environments under the sunglasses she wore. She missed everything about the palace, though she missed Damon more and couldn’t wait to see him.

“Please let there be a part of you that still loves me and your child, Damon. We both went through hell and we deserve to be together. Please God, help me.” She prayed as they drew closer and closer to the library.

All of a sudden, a lady ran past them, hitting Belinda hard on the shoulder, causing Belinda to lose balance. Her sunglasses fell off and her scarf almost removed from her head, but Clara was quick to prevent the disaster.

The lady kept running like nothing happened. Clara was so mad, and she wished that the lady wasn’t somewhere she couldn’t show her real self.

“I’d have skinned her alive.” She mumbled, helping Belinda put on her sunglasses again. They both looked up to see if Megan was waiting, but they saw that she was gone.

“Let’s go!” Belinda uttered with her heart beating very fast. They increased their walking paces, hoping they’d be able to catch up with Megan.

They passed by lots of people Belinda knew, and now, they were about to pass by the Queen herself. Belinda and Clara kept their heads bowed like they were paying obeisance to her, until they could escape her.

Belinda hated her and wished she could punish her for what she did to her and Damon, but it wasn’t the right time. She needed Damon to remember her. It was all that mattered to her.

Finally, they got to the library and upon walking in, they met Megan there already, pacing in front of Mr. Theron.

“I told you to keep your eyes on me! What happened?” Megan asked fearfully, walking towards them. “The queen passed by me, and I bet she did pass you too.” She added, and they both nodded.

“No one noticed anything, Princess Megan.” Clears reassured her, and she nodded, walking then to Mr. Theron who had his eyes on Belinda the whole time.

He couldn’t help but wonder how she could walk in the palace and not get questioned about her big belly.

“The Queen didn’t ask you about your pregnancy?” He asked Belinda, and she shook her head.

“No, it was like she didn’t notice me at all.” Belinda answered, and Theron let out a smile and nodded.

He walked to his drawer and drew out a calabash. In this calabash was a black, fine paste made from herbs.

“I’d line your eyes with this. Please sit.” Mr. Theron said to Belinda, but she seemed unsure about it. She looked at Megan, who gave her a reassuring nod.

“What is this paste supposed to do?” Clara asked, standing in front of Belinda, preventing her from moving any closer to him.

“It’s the cure to the spell that was cast on Damian. Once he sees it on her, all memories of them will flood into his head and mind once again, and it will be like the curse never happened.” Mr. Theron explained.

Clara looked at Megan too, and Megan nodded. “He’s telling the truth. You need to believe him.” She added.

Clara gulped and took a few steps closer to Mr. Theron. “

“You know, I don’t know you and I don’t know if I can trust you. But one thing I know is that if this doesn’t go the way you just explained, I’d forget every courtesy in me and bring out the part which everyone that ever saw didn’t live to tell.” Clara uttered within gritted teeth, keeping her eyes fixed on him.

After speaking, she heaved out a sigh and moved away from Belinda’s front.

“Let’s do this then.” She added, and Belinda smiled widely, staring at her.

She sat on the chair and Mr. Theron used a brush to line her eyes with the paste, making it seem like it was part of her makeup routine.

“You’re so brave to confront an elderly wizard in such a manner.” Megan whispered in Clara’s ear.

“I don’t joke with Belinda, and I won’t let anyone mess with her.” Clara answered firmly, causing Megan to nod.

“I’m glad she got to meet you.”

“We are done.” Mr. Theron uttered, and they both looked at Belinda, who seemed a little nervous.

“You’re still beautiful, okay? He lined it perfectly.” Clara uttered, causing her to chuckle.

“What’s next? I bet the people are gathered already and Damon is probably waiting in front for that evil woman.” Megan uttered.

“All she has to do is walk up to him. And it’s all done.” Mr. Theron uttered with a grin, causing all of them to exchange looks.

“Am I really just going to walk up to him with everyone watching?” Belinda asked, and Megan nodded.

“Of course, because you are a guest, who would love to sit in front.” Megan retorted, letting out a smirk too.
