Chapter 6: Chapter 6

" I'm afraid that's not possible as I have other things to attend to " She said politely.

" You're sad and lonely, aren't you? " He blurted out, staring deep into her eyes. Ava felt he could see through her soul.

Her eyes flickered, a subtle interplay of emotions dancing within their depths. She seemed to wrestle with conflicting impulses, torn between letting him in or maintaining the barrier she had carefully erected.

" I appreciate your concern, but I can't... " Her voice trailed off, a veil of reticence settling over her features.

" I won't push if you don't want me to " Bryan assured her, sensing the fragility of the moment. " But know that if you ever need someone to talk to, I'll be here "

Ava looked confused, how did he expect her to find him even if she wanted to open up to someone? Oh, this was someone who got her place easily so that wouldn't be difficult for him, she thought.

She started to talk " How do you... "

But Bryan interrupted her " It's okay, Ava. There will always be a next time "

With a nod of understanding, Bryan reluctantly took a step back, respecting Ava's unspoken boundaries. He glimpsed a fleeting expression of gratitude in her eyes before she softly closed the door, leaving him standing in the hallway, the echo of their encounter lingering in the air.

As he descended the stairs, Bryan couldn't shake off the whirlwind of emotions that surged within him. Ava remained an enigma, her secrets still safely guarded within the walls of her world. Yet, he couldn't deny the pull she had on him, a magnetic force that transcended mere curiosity.

With a lingering glance at the closed door, Bryan made a silent promise to himself. He would wait for the day when Ava felt ready to let someone in, to unravel the mysteries she held within, and perhaps, allow their paths to cross again.

Ava paced back and forth in her living room, her fingers tapping nervously on her phone. She dialed Bella's number, her heart racing as she waited for her friend to pick up.

" Bella, you won't believe what just happened! "

Ava giggled, trying to keep her excitement under control.

" What? " Bella asked, sounding bored.

" Bryan was here! " Ava blurted out, unable to contain her excitement.

Instantly, Bella's voice changed and her scream of joy echoed through the phone. " Oh my goodness, Ava! Bryan? How on earth did he find your place? What did he want? "

" I know, right? It was totally unexpected! He said he couldn't get me out of his mind since we bumped into each other at the grocery store " Ava explained, the memory of their encounter vivid in her mind.

" He mentioned that moment at the store when I accidentally bumped into him. He said it stuck with him " Ava continued, her voice tinged with disbelief and elation.

" That's so romantic! Did he say anything else? Why did he come over? " Bella's curiosity surged as she prodded for more details.

" He wanted to talk, Bella. He said he needed to see me again, that he couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to be near me " Ava confessed, her voice filled with a mix of astonishment and doubt.

" I was stunned, Bella! He was so genuine, admitting he couldn't stop thinking about me " Ava shared, her disbelief turning into a glimmer of hope.

" I'm thrilled for you, Ava! Did he say when he'd see you again? " Bella's excitement bubbled through the phone.

" And how did he get to know your place? " Bella asked, sounding so excited.

Ava rolled her eyes " Can you chill, Bella? Your excitement is unnecessary "

Bella scoffed " Unnecessary? Girl, we're talking about Bryan, Bryan! "

" So? " Ava asked, confused as to what Bella was getting at.

Bella calmed down and set to explain " Okay let's be rational. The guy is handsome, right? He looked rich, right? He was able to get your place easily, right? Then he must be powerful! Imagine someone as powerful as that coming for you?? "

" Well, I don't care " Ava said, rolling her eyes.

" You should my dear, you shouldn't let him slip away " Bella advised gently.

" So did he say when he'd see you again? " Bella asked.

" Not exactly, but he wanted us to talk " Ava revealed, her mind swirling with emotions.

" And what did you say? " Bella asked eagerly.

" What else? I told him I was busy of course " Ava replied casually.

" You're a dummy, Ava. Why didn't you try going out with him? " Bella whined.

" I don't know what this means, Bella. I'm excited but nervous too. What if it's too good to be true? " Ava confided, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.

" Girl, enjoy the moment! This is incredible. Maybe it's the start of something amazing " Bella encouraged, her voice brimming with optimism.

" I'll think about it, Bella. Thanks for being here for me " Ava replied, a sense of gratitude in her tone as she contemplated the possibility of a new chapter with Bryan.

Ava sank onto her couch, the weight of Bryan's unexpected visit settling in her mind. She gazed out of the window, lost in thought, trying to dissect every word he had said.

Bella's voice broke her reverie. "Ava, are you still there? What are you thinking?"

Ava sighed, grateful for Bella's unwavering support. " I'm just trying to process it all, Bella. It feels surreal "

" I understand, but don't overthink it. Sometimes, things happen for a reason " Bella reassured her, her voice a comforting presence through the phone.

" You're probably right " Ava conceded, a small smile tugging at her lips. " It's just... I never expected this "
