Chapter 16: Chapter 16
The next morning, a sense of excitement lingered in the air as Ava prepared for her day at work. Her encounter with Bryan the previous day had left a feeling of longing within her. For once in a long time, she wanted to really feel like a woman and make a man look at her with longing.
As she stood in front of her closet, a mix of determination and excitement propelled her to select the perfect outfit. She wanted to strike a balance between professionalism and allure, wanting to make an impression without compromising her work attire.
After trying on a few combinations, Ava settled on a sleek, form-fitting dress that exuded sophistication yet had a hint of elegance. She paired it with a tailored blazer that accentuated her figure while maintaining a professional look.
Ava's gaze shifted to her collection of shoes, deliberating between comfort and style. Finally, she opted for a pair of classic heels that added a touch of confidence to her stride, complementing her attire perfectly.
Satisfied with her choice, Ava took a final glance in the mirror. The outfit radiated confidence and charm, a reflection of her desire to make a statement, both professionally and personally.
With a satisfied smile, she grabbed her bag and headed out, feeling a sense of empowerment in her carefully curated appearance.
Arriving at the office, Ava was greeted by the familiar hustle and bustle of the work environment. She walked with a confident step, the sleekness of her attire adding an extra bounce to her stride.
Colleagues noticed the subtle change in Ava's demeanor—the confident aura she exuded, the poised elegance in her every movement. Whispers floated around the office as her outfit caught the attention of those who crossed her path.
As Ava made her way through the office, her strides filled with a newfound confidence from her attire, she noticed Bella waiting by the water cooler, a curious glint in her eye.
" Hey, Ava! " Bella greeted her with a knowing smile, leaning casually against the wall.
" Hey, honey " Ava replied, returning the smile. " What's up? "
Bella's expression shifted to one of playful curiosity as she glanced pointedly at Ava's attire. " Looking sharp today, Ava. Any particular reason? "
Ava tried to play it cool, brushing off Bella's observation with a casual wave of her hand. " Oh, you know, just felt like dressing up a bit today. Nothing special. "
Bella arched an eyebrow, her grin widening. " Hmm, really? Or maybe someone special caught your eye? "
Ava's cheeks flushed slightly at Bella's insinuation. She shook her head, disappointment flickering in her eyes. " No, not at all. I mean, I didn't even see him this morning. I don't think he came in. "
Bella's playful expression softened into one of understanding. " Oh, Ava, I'm sorry. I know how much you were looking forward to catching up with him. "
Ava shrugged, trying to mask her disappointment. " It's okay. I mean, we didn't have any concrete plans. I just thought... "
Bella gave her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. " I get it. But hey, there's always another day. Maybe he got caught up with something. Don't lose hope just yet. "
Ava managed a faint smile, appreciating Bella's attempt to console her. " Yeah, you're right. I shouldn't jump to conclusions. Maybe he'll be around another time. "
" And he's the boss, remember? He has got a lot on his table, you know? " Bella asked, trying to make Ava see probable reasons why Bryan couldn't come to office.
Ava nodded " Yeah that's true "
" Exactly. So cheer up, hmm? " Bella smiled and patted Ava on the shoulder.
Ava nodded again, sending Bella a grateful smile.
" But I thought you said all these weren't for him? " Bella teased, gesturing to Ava's outfit.
Ava blushed furiously " Stop, it's not funny "
Bella laughed, her eyes glistening with mischief " Oh yeah it is, my dear Ava "
" Last time I checked, you didn't want to have anything to do with him " She teased Bella further.
Ava sighed, tired of Bella's playful mockery " Bella, can you just... "
Bella raised her hands in surrender " Okay okay, I'll stop " and she bursted into an uncontrollable laughter.
Ava's went wide and she looked around " Bella, are you crazy?! We're at work! "
A few employees turned to stare at them and Ava smiled apologetically and pulled Bella along with her.
Bella of course, still had the stupid grin on her face.
" Snap out of it, Bella. People are watching us " Ava whispered furiously and pinched Bella lightly.
" Ouch! " Came Bella's shout of pain.
" Shut up or I'll make you " Ava threatened, grabbing Bella's arm and pulling her along with her.
The two friends exchanged a few more words before parting ways. Ava felt a twinge of disappointment but tried to remain optimistic about the possibility of running into Bryan another day.
Throughout the rest of the day, Ava found herself occasionally stealing glances around the office, hoping for a glimpse of Bryan. Yet, there was no sign of him, and the day continued without their paths crossing.
Or was he avoiding her? He probably realized that she didn't worth his time and attention so he decided to stay away, was that it? These were the questions running through her mind as she worked.
Well, she wasn't interested too and she didn't dress up to impress him, Ava thought to console herself.
As the workday came to an end, Ava packed her belongings, a sense of quiet determination settling within her. She wasn't going to let the disappointment of that day dampen her spirits. There were still possibilities for the future. She went home dejected and unhappy that she wasn't able to see Bryan. Where on earth was he anyway? She asked herself but got no answer.
