Chapter 28: Chapter 28

"So tired..." September smiled as he leaned on the doorway of their bedroom, hands crossed over his chest. He was watching his wife struggling to wiggle herself inside the thick blankets.

"You ran around the whole place for hours. Who wouldn't be tired?" He asked with a slight tone of teasing as he made his way towards her. He slouched a bit just below the bed to take her sandals off.

"Your feet's a bit sandy. You should take a quick wash first."

"Can't walk anymore..." Maeve muttered tiredly. September shook his head in defeat but his lips are curved into a soft smile.

"Alright. Let's go. Come'n!" He said as he swept her off their bed.

September gently placed her on the tub and was about to leave the room to let her have privacy. But just after he turned around to leave, Maeve tugged the end of his shirt.

"What is it?" He asked after he slouched a bit in front of her and gently caressed her head.

"Can I borrow your hands?"

"My hands?" He asked, confused. But when Maeve nodded he still offered his hands and stared at his wife with curiosity.

Maeve smiled before she pulled out something from the pocket of her shorts. September's eyes flashed with both confusion and excitement as a familiar box appeared in front of him.

Maeve pulled his hand closer to her after opening the woven box and retrieving the infinity knotted ring that she had made herself. She noticed the mini shop while they were walking around and so she used the excuse of trying out some clothes to get away from him and prepare this surprise.

September's lips parted as soon as he saw the band that Maeve had placed on his ring finger. Then, he started to chuckle much to Maeve's confusion.

"Is it... Was it too silly for you?" She asked sounding too disheartened. She had worked for that ring for hours!

She suddenly have the urge to cry. But she immediately scolded herself. She was never the crybaby type. Even when she was younger, she had always been the brave one.

So, no. She's not going to cry. No. She wouldn't!

"No. Of course not." September answered as he stared at the ring on his finger that had almost identical design to what he had made.

"Then, why are you laughing?"

"Let me borrow your hand too." Maeve, with her forehead creasing put her hand above his.

"What is this all abo---" her words were suddenly cut off when he saw him take out an identical woven box from his pocket.

And just after she swore not to cry, a teardrop fell from her eyes after she felt the cold band slid into her finger.

An infinity knotted ring. Too.

"Should I start to think that we have mental telepathy? How can we chose the same design?" September was smiling as he stares and caressed the gold band that was now around his wife's finger. But his smile immediately faded when he looked up and see her cheeks drenched with tears.

He immediately let go of her hands and held both of her cheeks worriedly.

"Hey... What's wrong?" He asked anxiously. He never saw Maeve cried nor did he ever heard any news about her crying, either. She wasn't named as 'Ice Queen' for nothing. Getting into her cold heart should be difficult. Antagonizing even.

But seeing this vulnerable lady in front of him, made him forget about her reputation of being a cold woman. All that he could think of was how he could make her stop crying.

"Hey..." He whispered as he wiped the tears that keeps on falling from those beautiful eyes.

"Something wrong?" He asked as he draw soothing circles behind her back after she hurriedly and tightly pulled him into her arms. It was kinda awkward having the tub between them as they hugged each other but he didn't try to voice it out while his wife was being overly emotional.

He felt her shook her head to answer his question before she embrace him tighter and snuggled her head to the crook of his head. He sighed before he lifted her off the tub.

Maeve's legs immediately went around his hips when she was lifted in the air. She was being carried like a five year old kid but she doesn't mind. The surging feelings inside her heart was enough to stop her from thinking rational. She just wanted to feel this warm man.

"Why are you so..." The last part of her sentence was too incoherent for him to understand.

"Hmm?" He asked while he continued soothing her back. He was just standing there as he carried her emotional wife.

Maeve took a few more moments before she was able to get a grip of her emotions. She stared at her finger that was now decorated with a ring.

"How can you be so sweet?" She asked still sobbing a bit.

"Is that why you're crying?" He asked but he received nothing as a response.

"Are you alright now?" He whispered near her ears.

"September..." She called out.

"Hmm?" He responded immediately.

"Do you love me?" September's hand on her back stopped moving.

"Maeve---"

"Do you love me?" She repeated, this time she leaned away from his neck to face him. She has this serious but gentle expression on her face.

September stared at her. His heart thumping so bad as his eyes held full attention of hers.

And yes, he immediately got the answer.

"Yes." He answered almost a whisper.

"Yes. I am, hopelessly and madly in love with you, hon." He confessed as his hold on her tightened.

He never knew what love was. But if this is ain't love he was feeling, he didn't know what it was then.

It was so... intense.

Maeve's parted lips from shocked caused by her husband's sincere confession was turned into a gentle and affectionate one after a few seconds. She moved her legs off his hips and gently tapped his shoulder for him to let her down which he immediately did.

They were both standing in the middle of the comfort room now but they didn't seem to mind.

September was a lot taller than Maeve is, so she needed to look up to meet his eyes. She was smiling and her eyes were a bit twinkling as she held both of his cheeks.

"Wait for me then. I'm almost there," she said before she circled her arms around his waist, tiptoed a bit and rewarded him with a sweet kiss.
