Chapter 13: Chapter 13

"Where's September?" She asked as she walked in inside the gates, not gracing the guards any glances.

"This way, Ma'am." Falcon said leading the way towards the huge mansion.

Maeve and Hillary on his heels, the trio walked the distance from the gate to the mansion in silence.

"Mr. Thorne's inside." The butler informed as he gestured the door of September's office.

Maeve opened the door and immediately took a step inside it. Hillary was about to follow her sister inside when she was suddenly pulled back by Falcon before the door was closed.

September was already seated behind his table. As if he was already waiting for her arrival.

"How's your first time inside the house, wife?"

Maeve stared at the man in front of her. She should have followed her instincts that this man is dangerous. She swore to herself that she wouldn't be a victim of his tricks but she still end up being married without her knowing.

"Mr. Thorne, are you happy?" September didn't know what to make of this question of hers. He was supposed to be happy being her husband but the thing was... he wasn't. He knew he wasn't happy about this.

"Yes." He lied. She won't believe it anyway even if he say that it was not him whose behind this.

Maeve chuckled humorlessly with his response. Why did she even asked that? Of course he'll be satisfied! She had been tied to him.

"This is a void marriage." She pointed out as she throw her copy of marriage certificate on his face.

"You did signed it though," September sounded like he's pointing the facts out but the truth is that he was trying to decipher how Mr. Smith had done all of this.

He wasn't careless about his signature, and Maeve wasn't the type to sign a document without reading, too. So how did that old man have it?

"I didn't!" He sighed as he put down their marriage certificate on the table. He figured that out already but it still stings to hear that she doesn't want to marry him.

"What can we do now? You're now Mrs. Thorne." He said with a mocking smile to hide the menacing pang of pain inside his heart.

Maeve stared at him in an unbelieving manner. She did opened her mouth a lot of times to try to speak but she always end up closing it once again. For the first time, she didn't know what to say. Words are refusing to left her mouth.

Silence reigned between them as their stares battled each other. September hid his closed fist under his table while he watched those pretty brown eyes filled with iciness stare back at him.

He was close to having them look at him with warmth. She's starting to care for him. But now, he needs to go back from the start again.

"You know what, Mr. Thorne? I could've married you voluntarily if only you're patient enough to wait." September's subconscious mind keeps screaming at him to say that he was, after all very patient and very much willing to wait for her. But the circumstances was just really against him.

"You asked me what I hate about you?" Maeve was looking at him with disgust and rage as she reminded him of the question he asked before.

"I never liked anything about you. But now, you just gave me a reason to hate you even more." She said as she felt her heart constricting in too much rage that she was feeling.

She had always hated being controlled. One of the reasons why she chose to live alone abroad after her mother died. Her father is a control freak. He likes meddling with her life and she never liked it at any bit.

But fate's turning her into a huge joke. She tried to escape her father's crazy antics but she end up being married to a man known for being manipulative.

"Maeve---"

"How 'bout divorce?" September's eyes sharpened after hearing those taboo words from her.

"We haven't even got married for a whole day and you're now talking about divorce?"

"Who asked you to marry me anyway?" Maeve asked back in a mocking way.

"When are you moving?" He asked not minding her comeback.

"Who says I'm moving in with you?"

"Then should I move to yours then?" September asked with his left eye brow raised in with a challenge.

A long moment of silence comes with sword-sharp exchange of glares took in before Maeve backed down with an exasperated sigh.

"Fine! But we do need to set some rules if we're gonna live together."

"Trying to negotiate huh? Alright, I'm all ears." September said with a playful smile on his lips as he rested his back on his chair.

"What happened?" Hillary asked her sister as they drove back to Maeve's apartment.

"Are you busy tonight?"

"What?" She was confused with her sister's calm aura which was a complete opposite of what she had seen earlier.

"You have something to do tonight?" Maeve repeated before she maneuvers the car for a turn.

"N-nothing..." Hillary answered, still not quite sure what this is all about.

"Good. Help me pack then."

"Okay." She answered automatically with a nod but immediately trailed off when it started to dawned on her.

"Are you seriously moving in with him?!"

"Yup."

"Why?"

"What do mean why? He's my husband now." Maeve answered with a menacingly smirk, her eyes are almost sparkling too.

"What are you doing?" Hillary asked cautiously. It just happened that they had to stop for the red light so Maeve turned to her sister with a sinister expression.

"I'll be staying with my husband." Maeve stated with her shoulders shrugging.

"Why does it sounds evil?" Hillary asked as she swiftly let her hands ran down her arms to eased the goosebumps she was feeling.

Maeve chuckled with her sister's antics before she returned to driving while her mind's busy formulating a plan that would surely end this dilemma soon.
