Chapter 52: Chapter 52
Farhan grinned at Natasha's flushed face. She looked anywhere but him. Haya passed them both a teasing smile and their trance was broken by Abrar, who entered the ward as well and passed confused glances to everyone, wondering why they're all grinning like fools.
"What did I miss?" He asked whilst walking towards his wife, who passed the sleeping baby to him. Whom he carefully lifted up and a warm smile formed on his lips automatically, "place her back on the crib..."Haya smiled at how soft he becomes whenever Hidaya comes into his arms. Abrar is going to be a great dad, for sure.
"Why were you all smiling?"Abrar asked again, Haya passed another teasing smile to her friends, "oh nothing really. Natasha was telling me how gem of a person her husband is and that I'm unlucky because I missed him."
The look on Natasha's face was worth a picture, Farhan couldn't stop himself from feeling happy. What did he do to deserve her as his wife?
"Oh?" Abrar, who should have been offended, laughed at that, then he continued," I'm glad that you're unlucky. Because it made me lucky and I got you." and the cheesy smile which he passed her way after that made her cheeks to turn crimson and it was her turn to blush hard now.
Farhan and Natasha passed knowing glances to each other. Sensing the awkwardness, "What do you guys want? Tea or coffee? Juice?" Abrar asked them both, as he placed the baby back on the crib. They both shook their head in negative with a small smile.
"We should be leaving actually." Farhan smiled sheepishly at Haya, who gasped at that and began to glare at her best friends.
"You both just came." Haya whined, Natasha passed a worried glance at her, "I know, I'm sorry yaar. But this is kind of important. We have to go."
Farhan looked uninterested anyway. But he had to go, for his mother's sake, "yeah. My Ammi and Abbu are hosting a party. We should be there in like half an hour."
Abrar became tensed at the mention of Farhan's father, Haya who understood his state of mind, held his hands to calm him down, he just blinked at her in assurance.
Farhan who also sensed this, became slightly awkward and tugged at Natasha's wrist, "we will meet next time then?"
"Insha Allah, but that better be soon. I miss you guys." Haya huffed dramatically, Natasha nodded with an apologetic smile," Insha Allah, take care of your self and good luck with the baby."
Bidding their best friend goodbye, Natasha and Farhan left the hospital with a small smile playing on their lips.
Natasha felt happy and relieved at the thought that; Farhan really did move on from his first love. The way he managed himself, in front of Haya and her new life, totally un-effectively, spoke volumes. But there was this corner of her heart which couldn't help but wonder; what if he was faking it all along?
"What are you thinking?" Farhan's voice broke her trance, who shook her head in no.
"Will your father like me?" Natasha asked out of the blue in order to not let him know of what she thought, as they drove to his old house. Farhan laughed at that, "you don't have to impress him or anything. For all you know, he kicked me out of his house. He doesn't have any rights to like you or dislike you."
She gave him an annoyed look, "but still, he's your father."
"Yeah, the same father who didn't bother attending our marriage. We are just going there for my Ammi's sake. That's all. Don't worry about him." Natasha felt glad for the distraction and didn't speak anything else about his father, knowing very well of the tension between them.
"Did you mean it?" Farhan suddenly asked once they stopped at the signal and the traffic was also heavy( which gives them plenty of time to talk), she gave him a confused look.
"What you said to Haya back in the hospital, did you really mean it?" Her face turned slightly red whilst nodding in yes.
"You think I'm a gem, huh?" Farhan asked her with a teasing smile, who looked away unable to meet his teasing gazes. He laughed at her reaction and turned to look ahead, waiting for the signal to turn green. His heart suddenly fluttered at the thought of being called a gem by his wife. A wide smile formed on his lips, as he recalled it again and again.
"Farhan..." he snapped his head towards her, who shook her head and turned away.
"What is it?"
"Nothing," she whispered in a low voice.
"You don't call for nothing, do you? Tell me, what is it?" she gave him a sheepish smile.
"I was meaning to ask this to you for a while." Natasha trailed off sceptically, he gave her a confused look not understanding why would she even hesitate to talk about something in the first place. He was her best friend first, more than anything.
"What stopped you?" he asked with a frown.
"Nothing really, I just had to make sure that I really wanted to do that. Now I'm sure I think." biting her lips nervously, she said. His gaze lingered on her baby pink lips for more than a second before turning to her eyes.
"You're confusing me, what is it really?" Farhan groaned internally at the thought of grabbing her face and kissing her already. It's going to be three freaking months of their marriage in a few days.
"I want to discontinue my masters," she muttered with an inward sigh, glad for the sudden confidence.
"Wait, WHAT?" Natasha loved her studies to death, he had to check twice if she really said what she said, because it feels very weird to hear something as crazy as that coming out of her mouth.
"I mean it." She smiled at him nervously.
"You can't be serious."
"I am."
"But why? You love to study. That's what we all thought? Is it the semester pressure or what? You don't have to take that much stress anyway." Farhan rambled, still not able to believe the fact that she wants to discontinue her studies.
"I love to study, yeah. Learning new things has always fascinated me. But I don't see any future with this masters degree. Of course, I'll get a job and all. But that's not what I want to do." Natasha sighed, the traffic was still not cleared to which she is very glad.
"Oh?" he frowned in confusion, not understanding what she is trying to say now.
"I want to become a teacher. More than studying, I've loved that one a lot. As a teacher, I can always keep learning something and teach what I've learned to others too. I'd enjoy that profession more than anything else." she had that wide smile on her face, just at the thought of imagining herself as a teacher in the future.
"If you're really sure. You should go ahead, I'm with you in this. I've seen you teach tuition to your colony's kids, and I think you chose the right one. You should go for it." Farhan encouraged her with a smile, she nodded her head eagerly.
"In order for me to teach, I need a degree in bachelor of education." this is where she needed his help. He gave her a nod, asking her to continue.
"I got the application form and all.. but."
"You need to money to proceed further?" After being independent for nearly three and half years, suddenly asking for money made her feel a little less. She couldn't even help it.
"Yeah, I've wasted my scholarship money in my master's first semester and I have none now. I want your help to pay for this one semester. I can manage for the rest. I'll pay you back after some time. I promise." Natasha rambled nervously without looking at Farhan's face, which was furious with anger and hurt.
"Is that meant to insult me or what?" She gasped at his question, "what? Of course not."
"Then what do you mean you'll pay me back? Seriously Natasha, you just told me as some gem and all. What type of husband will I be, if I take back money from you? Are you kidding me right now?" Farhan snapped at her angrily, she looked quite taken aback by that.
Like a fish she opened her mouth and closed it again, thrice. Natasha couldn't form any words.
"You're my wife and it's my responsibility to take care of your needs. You hurt my feelings." Farhan started the engine angrily, as the traffic was finally cleared. The rest of the ride went in awkward silence, Natasha mentally groaned.
"Farhan." she was met with silence, as he drove with full concentration on the road.
"Farhan." again the silence.
"I'm sorry okay. I hadn't had to ask for money from anyone for nearly four years and suddenly having to ask you is already weird for me. Forget I ever said that, please." Natasha sighed. He was silent yet again, which got her annoyed. With a huff, she looked away.
After a few meters, there was another huge signal waiting for them. Farhan halted the car with an inward groan.
"I'll pay your fees, but you're not going to pay it back to me." Farhan muttered sternly. Natasha turned to look at him and had no choice but to accept.
"Now don't say thanks, I'll be more pissed." as if understanding what she is going to say, he added this line with a serious face. She stared at him wide-eyed.
"I wasn't going to." she lied.
"Sure."
"I'm sorry." she pouted cutely, he looked away unable to keep a straight face. Natasha can get away with anything just by being cute.
"Farhan, let's forget about that for my sake. Please. I need your advice. Do you think I'm doing the right thing? By dropping out from something so big to become a teacher?" Natasha asked sceptically.
He sighed," if this is what you love. You shouldn't have any second thoughts. Besides, you'll make a great teacher." a small smile formed on his lips at last.
"You think so?" she asked with a wide grin.
"I bet so." he looked ahead at the road, trying hard not to smile. He was supposed to be mad.
"You're the best Farhan." Natasha leaned in and kissed his cheeks in excitement. It was supposed to be her dream. No. No. This was not supposed to happen. Her eyes went wide in realization and she looked away almost immediately with her cheeks so red. What the hell did just happened?
Farhan froze.
Did she just do that? Kissed him so out of the blue, when they were in the middle of the road. In a car. Anyone could see them... But nothing mattered to him.
All he could think was the kiss.
He turned to face her slowly, who was a blushing mess. Her hands were fidgeting the corner of her dupatta nervously.
A mischievous smile formed on his lips, as he thought of returning the favour. Which made him lean in slowly. Just when he was about to kiss her cheeks, she turned to him in confusion. And it was her baby pink lips which came in contact with his. Both their eyes froze in shock, surprise, nervousness. Their lips were still in touch. Neither of them moved. Her breath hitched and her eyes closed, feeling his lips against hers.
Her lips were sweet. Greedy for more, Farhan grabbed her face and began to kiss her hungrily. He could taste sweet strawberries as he kissed her. Really kissed her.
FINALLY.
Natasha still hasn't recovered from the shock of the cheek kiss and then the sudden peck felt like a dream. She did not know what to say about this one. It felt like a beautiful dream. The bite on her lips made it pretty obvious that it wasn't any dream. A gasp left her mouth, which he took in his favour. His tongue tasted every corner of her mouth, passionately.
If his car's glasses weren't black, they both would be charged for the public nuisance which they were creating. But it is black. Thank goodness.
Natasha was still in a daze, her eyes were closed, lips moving in sync with his as she followed him slowly. All the English movies which they've watched so far has been paying off well. And they both were kissing wildly and crazily, as though their life depends on it.
The loud honking from behind snapped them out to reality. With a jerk, they pulled back and Farhan started his car whilst cursing the disturbance.
Natasha and Farhan couldn't believe themselves, but it looked like they just had their first kiss, in their car, in the middle of a road, around thousands of people, yet no one had any idea.
Surely, it was one thrilling first kiss, which neither of them can ever forget.
