Chapter 32: Chapter 32
Dimitri stayed in his office until he was done planning the trip. He smiled at his surprise for Rosalie, one part of his apology. She's going to love the extra day for them to spend in Canada. He got up and walked out of his office, sighing as more members glared at him.
"Dimitri, I want to challenge you."
He turned around to see one of his warriors smirking at him. He frowned and shrugged.
"Okay, when?"
"Now."
Dimitri sighed, "I want to go see my ma-
"Oh, she forgave a piece of filth like you?" A woman sneered.
Dimitri clenched his jaw, "I know I messed up, but-
"You're no better than that bitch, Christine." A man spat.
Dimitri ran his hand through his hair, "Let's just get this over with."
They walked outside where more than half the pack was. Dimitri frowned at their hatred filled eyes and stood in the middle of the large circle. The warrior stood across from him, still smirking.
"Let the fun begin." the warrior sneered.
Dimitri watched as he sprinted towards him, he quickly met him halfway and grabbed him by the throat. He slammed the guy on the ground, holding back his smirk as the man groaned in pain. He let go and gave his warrior another chance to attack him, once again, it ended with the warrior on the ground.
They fought for what felt like hours, but it was only an hour. Dimitri pinned the bloody warrior down until he submitted. He let go and sighed.
"Now, I would love to-
Before he could finish all of the males from the pack and a few females ambushed him. He tried fighting off as many as he could, but after the twentieth wolf, he was getting tired. He kept in a howl of pain as a wolf bit his leg.
Wolf after wolf attacked him, Dimitri laid on the ground, trying to protect himself. When he finally had enough he shifted and started to attack his pack members left from right. Once almost all of them were knocked out the remaining slowly backed up, their eyes holding fear. Dimitri didn't care though, he shifted back and held onto the railing of the deck.
He winced as he slowly climbed the stairs, leaving multiple blood stains behind each step.
"What the hell?"
He looked up as Rosalie ran out, her eyes wide. She sprinted over to him and covered him with a towel someone handed her.
His vision began to blur as he struggled to stay on his own two feet. Rosalie was quick to notice this and sat him down, her eyes filled with horror at the amount of blood he was losing.
"Go get his parents or brothers. Just somebody to help me bring him to the infirmary." She ordered.
"Hey, Dimitri, look at me. You need to stay awake." She urged.
He blinked, he tried speaking, but exhaustion was getting the better of him. Rosalie sighed and continued wiping blood off of him.
"How come it's always you getting hurt and not me?" She murmured. "For now on, I'm going to fight your battles with you."
Dimitri only nodded slightly, too tired to respond. He could hear the distant voice of one of his brothers, asking what the hell happened. Rosalie said something to him, but he was already fading into unconsciousness.
"Take him to the infirmary, quickly." Rosalie ordered as Damon joined Xander.
They carefully picked up their brother and scurried to the infirmary, Rosalie turned to face the pack that was starting to wake up.
"All of you, stand the hell up, right now." She ordered.
They all climbed to their feet and stared at her with fear. She narrowed her eyes and waited for the last few to wake up before speaking.
"I am disgusted with all of you. Yes, Dimitri had hurt me in one of the worst ways, but he came back for me. He ran all the way to my brother's pack and apologized. Not only that, but helped me bathe and fed me. I know what he did was horrible, but I forgave him. Why? Because I love him." She yelled.
"What gave you the right to attack him like you did? You're all cowards for what you did. After today, I believe he earned his alpha title. This disgusting act is unforgivable, pathetic. He's done so much for you guys and this is how you repay him? I'm sure we've all done worst than what he did."
"Matter of fact, I did something terrible. Worse than what he did. I...I killed my own pack member when I was younger. Given, I wasn't in control of my wolf since I had an early shift, but I still blame myself. Dimitri was terrified of being rejected, so, he got rid of me first. Christine damaged him, caused him to have some major trust issues. And I saw that. I saw the pain when he apologized. I saw the honesty."
Tears started to form in her eyes.
"He's in so much pain, but now he has physical pain to add in on that. What Christine did was horrible. Worst than this."
"How? He was going to give you to Eli!" A woman shouted.
Rosalie looked at her, "Please, I can handle Eli. He's nothing. But Christine tried killing him. She joined with the rogue leader and stabbed Dimitri in the chest with a silver knife. In my opinion, that's worse than handing me over to someone I can kill easily."
"But he was a complete asshole." A man spat.
"Yes, and so are you. You can't tell me you never once treated someone horribly because you were angry at them or they had hurt you. Betrayal is one hell of an emotion." She replied.
The man quickly looked away.
"Thought so. Now, I'll do my best to not let Dimitri guide you with his rage. But you all just betrayed your alpha. Dimitri was already in enough pain, but it wasn't enough for you. He loved you guys. Still loves you. I'm not saying he's going to act as if none of this happened, but he won't kill any of you."
"He almost died protecting all of you, he's protected all of you for years now. The only people who deserve Dimitri's guidance and love is the ones inside of the packhouse. The ones who quickly woke me up and told me what was happening. The ones who were crying because they were afraid of what was going to happen to their beloved alpha. We all make mistakes and we learn from them. I hope you learned from this as well. No, go to your rooms or whatever. I don't want to see any of you for the rest of the day."
With that, she turned around and stormed inside. She smiled at the pack members inside. It was about half of the pack, but it was enough to show Dimitri has some strong support. She quickly found Dimitri's beta who seemed shocked still.
"Ian, can you make sure they follow my orders?" She questioned.
He nodded, "They're not going to be punished?"
"Not yet, I'll let Dimitri decide."
Rosalie rushed in to see all three brothers pacing the waiting room. Guilt was sparkling in their eyes, along with concern. She walked over and took a seat, her mind focused on Dimitri.
Seconds later, Harper ran in and started asking about him. When she saw Rosalie she immediately hugged her.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
Rosalie nodded, "Yeah, I can't believe they did this to him."
"Well, Maddox is handling them. Ian kept the guilty ones outside while the innocent ones stayed inside."
"What is he going to do with them?" She asked.
Harper frowned, "He's throwing them in the dungeons for now. Dimitri will decide their punishment."
Rosalie only nodded, she looked forward and sighed. Harper hugged her again.
"He'll be okay." She whispered.
Rosalie had tears roll down her face, "I don't want to have fights with him anymore." She murmured.
"I know, he's just constantly acting on instinct and not thinking it through. He'll eventually break through all of this and think before he acts, but as for now..."
"I understand, I'm going to help him the best I can. I...I wanted to hurt him after he did what he did to me. But seeing how broken he truly is..."
"I did the same thing, well, I kicked Maddox in the balls. But I think this is enough for him."
Rosalie nodded, "Oh, it is."
When the doctor walked out they all stood up, she sighed sadly.
"He's going to be in a lot of pain. He seems malnourished." She said.
Harper swallowed, "He's refusing to eat."
"Well, if he's upset about something or sick, that'll happen. We'll try to get him to eat very light stuff right now. Then we'll move him up to heavier meals. We don't want him puking."
"But because of this, his wolf doesn't have the energy to heal him. I had to stitch every single wound, right now, Frankenstein would be jealous of him." The doctor mumbled.
"He'll be okay though?" Rosalie asked.
The doctor nodded, "Yeah, he's awake right now. You can all see him."
"How about Rosalie just sees him? I have a feeling he isn't going to want to see us." Xander suggested.
"I agree, we'll visit him later." Harper sounded.
Rosalie thanked them before following them doctor to his room. She quickly sat in the chair beside his bed and carefully grabbed his hand.
His eyes fluttered open as he looked at her, he smiled as much as he could through the medicine's side effects.
Rosalie ran her fingers through his hair, "Go to sleep. I'll be here when you wake up."
"I'm sorry." He whispered before closing his eyes.
She frowned at him and kissed him on the cheek. "I forgive you."
Rosalie groaned as someone poked her cheek. When they did it again she growled softly, warning them. They did it once again and this time she opened her eyes and glared at her new victim. She relaxed when she came face to face with a grinning Dimitri.
"Good morning!" He cheered.
She opened her mouth before closing it, "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Nothing, I'm actually feeling great! They're trying to get me to eat green jello but it's disgusting and reminds me of boogers. Gross. But I asked them for strawberry so they're getting that, but I'm not even hungry. I don't want to eat, but they're making me. Hey did you know-
"Somebody please shut him up."
Rosalie looked over to see Xavier laying on the couch, covering his head with a pillow. She laughed before looking back at the grinning Dimitri.
"What do they have him on?" She asked.
"Some painkillers. Strong ones." Xavier grumbled as he sat up.
Dimitri looked at him and frowned, "Why are you here? I'm not trying to be rude, but I thought you hated me. Apparently most of my pack hates me too. I constantly screw up on every damn thing! No matter how hard I try, I can never be good enough. Don't you know how much that sucks? I really want ice cream."
Xavier sighed and walked over, he gently patted his brother's shoulder.
"I don't hate you buddy." He said softly.
Dimitri only smiled a little before yawning, Rosalie chuckled and stood up. She helped him lay down back down as his eyes fluttered shut. Once he was sleeping she looked up to see Xavier watching him with a guilty look.
"Xavier-
"I was horrible to him. I just snapped after the one day and...told him I hated him. That he needs to stop doing this crap." He frowned and ran his hand through his hair.
Rosalie bit her lip, "He'll forgive you."
"How do you know?"
"Because you're his brother and he loves you. No matter what."
Xavier gave her a grateful smile before taking a seat. He leaned his head against the wall and stared at the ceiling.
"Even though I was furious with him...I would have never hit him. Christine did enough of that to last him a life time. I can't believe over half the pack did it..."
"Well, they're going get a punishment." Rosalie stated.
"I hope Dimitri gives them one hell of a punishment. Betraying their alpha is actually a death sentence, but we can't kill almost the whole pack." He sighed.
Rosalie sat down, she grabbed Dimitri's hand and rubbed circles on it with her thumb.
"I don't know." She murmured.
Dimitri woke up four more times, the fourth time the pain medication had worn off. Rosalie had to keep him calm when the burning pain had sliced through him. His wolf was starting to slowly heal him since the doctor had an IV giving him the nutrients that he needed. But he would still be in here for at least two more days, she was hoping he would eat after he's released.
Every time they offered food he refused, telling them he felt sick. The doctor explained to her that it's a side effect from the medicine, but she's afraid for when it's just him.
Rosalie watched as he started to wake up for the fifth time, his eyes revealed all of his pain as he stared at her.
"Hi." He rasped.
She smiled and grabbed a glass of water, "Here. Take small sips." She instructed.
After a few sips she put it back down and sighed, "How are you feeling?"
"I've been better." He chuckled, wincing a bit.
Rosalie smiled sadly, "I assume so. How come you aren't eating?"
He glanced at her before looking away, "I'm just not hungry."
"You haven't had anything to eat in almost a week. That's not good, Dimitri."
"I know, I know."
"So, start forcing yourself to become hungry. You aren't leaving this hospital until you can eat a light meal."
He scowled at her, but eventually gave in. He attempted to get comfortable by rolling on to his side, but the second he moved a sharp pain sliced through him. Rosalie quickly comforted him and released a breath.
"You can't move." She stated. "Until you're healed."
He nodded, he closed his eyes and leaned against the pillows. Rosalie continued to run her fingers through his hair, keeping him relaxed.
"What are you going to do about the members who attacked you?" She asked quietly.
Dimitri opened his eyes and sighed, "They can stay in the dungeons for three days. They only get one meal a day and water throughout the day."
"Okay."
A few hours later Harper and Maddox walked in, concerned looks on their faces. Dimitri was only half awake, he tried sleeping, but he was too uncomfortable. Rosalie smiled when she saw her son in Harper's arms. The woman chuckled as Rosalie shrieked in excitement and held her son.
"Your brother wants to know how you're doing. The both of you." Harper said as she sat down.
"We've been...better." Rosalie answered honestly.
Maddox nodded, "That's what we told him."
A peaceful silence settled over them as they just sat there with Dimitri. He was able to fall asleep after a few minutes, escaping the pain for what Rosalie hoped was a few hours.
"Is he eating yet?" Harper asked.
"No." Rosalie groaned. "He keeps saying he's not hungry."
"He's upset about something then." Maddox voiced.
"Do you think it has something to do with our huge fight?"
"Probably, only he knows what's truly bothering him. He'll tell us when he's ready." Harper replied.
Rosalie reluctantly agreed and looked back at her mate. She took his hand in her's and rested her head on the bed. She frowned at how pale he was, even though he was getting some nutrients, he wasn't getting the full amount. He wasn't gaining any weight at all, but he was losing it. He lost a little bit of muscle tone as well.
Rosalie was starting to grow concerned over this.
Just how damaged are you, Dimitri? She wondered.
