KEVIN’S POV
I bit the inside of my cheek trying to stop the smile that was threatening to light up my face. I know I should be more sensitive but I had no control over what I was feeling. I felt as if I had gotten a new lease on life.
The moment father left, I set out in search of Kiara. I bumped into her near the fountain. My breath caught in my throat as I looked at her.
“You look so beautiful…,” I whispered placing a light kiss on her cheeks.
Her eyes widened. She looked around warily and dragged me to the dungeon.
“Not the most Romantic place, is it?” I said as she pulled me to sit beside her on the narrow table.
“I know but I don’t want anyone to barge in on us while we are talking.”
She halted for a moment. Her face flushed slightly and she chewed her lower lips before saying, “I am so sorry… I shouldn’t have slapped you…”
I pursed my lips and rubbed my right cheek before saying, “That really did sting… I didn’t know that I was stuck with an abusive mate…”
Tears welled in her eyes making my heart twist with guilt. I was about to tell her that I was just joking when she leaned forward and placed a kiss on my cheeks.
Grinning from ear to ear, I tried to say in an even voice, “I don’t think one kiss is enough to take away the sting…”
She was about to kiss me again when her eyes widened. She pulled away and instead of kissing me punched me in the upper arm.
She squinted her eyes and said, “Liar! I had slapped you on the left cheek…”
She crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks. My lips stretched into such a wide smile that my cheeks hurt. I had never seen Kiara in such a childish avatar. She was usually so reserved, calm, and wary…
I cupped her face and said, “I am really sorry… I was just toying with you….” When she didn’t reply, I added, “You did give me the shock of my life though… How did you suddenly decide to wreck my wedding?”
She looked into my eyes for a few moments as if contemplating something. I was tempted to intrude her thoughts but I held back. I wanted Kiara to tell me everything on her own…
She laced her fingers through mine and said, “Do you know who Cami’s mate was?”
“Who?”
Her lips pursed into a thin line as she said, “Adrian…”
My mind started reeling instantly. This could only mean one thing… Cami lied to me… but why would she do that…
The rattling sound of the bars drew our attention. Damn! I had forgotten that the doctor was locked up here. I tried to stop Kiara but she went to check anyway and yes she got really really mad…
“What the hell is Doctor Grimson doing here?”
“Umm… I… we captured a few poisoned werewolves and we were hoping that he could help us by curing them just like you…”
“Kiara! Please get me out of here… they have been keeping me here for a week… My wife would be so worried…”
Kiara grasped his hand through the bars and said, “Don’t worry. I will get you out of here…”
She turned to me and said, “Release him…”
I was taken aback by her command. If father found out he would be infuriated.
“I am sorry, Kiara… I can’t… this is the only way to save those wolves…”
“You can forget that he saved your mate’s life but I can’t forget that he saved MY life…” She said taking off the keys from the old, rusty keyholder on the wall.
She glared at me as if daring to stop her before opening the gate and letting the doctor out. She held his hand and said, “Don’t worry… I won’t let anything happen to you…”
She held his hand and led him out of the dungeon. I followed close behind but I didn’t try to stop her. The guards at the gate would never let her go out with the doctor. There was no reason for me to pick a fight with her…
