Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Steven
"Man, good morning!" Marco greeted.
"Morning." I returned his greeting.
"Do you want to play later?" He invited me. "We are planning to have a deal later. Who wins is going to bring home the money." He added, explaining the rules of the game already.
"I will see how you guys play first, and then I will join next time. I do not want to join when I know I will lose." I replied.
Marco smiled widely. "Woah. You are changing. Watch us later, okay? I will make sure to play with you next time," he said. "I will find some people who will join the game first." He added and fled the scene right away.
I put my bag down and looked at Sunny's chair. Her head is on her table, facing the other way. I went to her place and saw her sleeping. Oh, we stayed up late a while ago—no wonder she is still sleeping.
I returned to my chair and read the book I had brought―but I was too lazy to read it. The drama we were watching yesterday kept on playing in my mind. There are several scenes I am making now in my mind, making continuations of the last episode we watched a while ago.
Is this how she feels too? I wanted to watch the next episode and find out what happened to the people there. It is interesting. It is about the law that makes me more interested. I do not think she feels this way. She is sleeping there, and I am wide awake here, trying to figure out the next episode.
After half an hour, our professor came. Shiela woke Sunny up. She quickly fixed herself and looked at my side. Our eyes met, and she smiled, mouthing, "good morning."
I awkwardly return the good morning, yeah, I am mouthing it too, and she is looking at our professor now. She looks like a child who has just woken up from sleep. Cute. But not cute to the point―just attractive, alright, Steven?
Let's stop making Mavin tease me. It makes me irritated when he is the one who is teasing me.
The next subject came, and I was not able to get anything. My mind is distracted not just because of the drama. I am distracted because Sunny's face a while ago, greeting me, kept on playing as well.
This is driving me insane, but there is nothing I can do. I can't just remove my brain or eyes. I will die if I do that. I would be lying if I said I hated it. I kind of like it too. It helped me stop thinking about the drama, though I kept repeating the word cute. Damn.
The break came, and I felt we had just started the first class. I went to Marco as they gathered around with the other boys, beginning the game as he had said. While watching, I felt someone tapping my back. I looked back to see Sunny smiling at me.
"What are you watching? Let's have lunch together." She invited.
"Oh, okay," I answered and tapped Marco's shoulder. "I will eat with Sunny. Tell me the game's name later, and I will search for it." I told him.
He laughed before nodding at me. "Go, little rockstar. Fighting." He said and laughed again.
Although I wanted to ask him why he was laughing, I stopped myself and just turned to Sunny. "Shiela has a meeting today for their cheer dance." She shared.
"How about her lunch?" I asked.
"I told her she should buy her food before the meeting. I hope she will do that. She would sacrifice her lunch because she loves cheerleading." She replied.
I nodded. "How about you? Why did you not try doing it too?" I asked.
She laughed. "Me? Trying cheer dance? Hell no." She replied, making a big X with her arms.
"Why?" I asked, curious as to why she would not join.
"I eat a lot. I have a big belly and do not know how to dance. I dance like a stick man too." She said.
I nodded, understanding her explanation. "Yeah, I know how it feels. I do not know how to dance either. I only know one, stick man," I told her that made her laugh as well. "Anyway, you lack sleep?" I asked.
Sunny nodded. "We sleep until almost two in the morning, right?" She asked back. "Look at my eyebags. They are saying hello now." She added.
"Do you still want to watch it, or can we just watch it tomorrow since we do not have class tomorrow?" I asked.
She shook her head. "No, let's watch it today. We cannot let the episodes wait. I can't wait to find out what will happen next. Do you know that I still think about it even when I am sleeping?" She shared.
Now I feel good after hearing her say that. I thought I was the only one feeling that kind of strange feeling.
"I have a copy on my phone. Do you want to watch it? Let's buy our food first and then go back to our room. We can watch it while we are still on our break." She suggested.
"Okay then." I replied.
We bought food and went back to our room. I sat next to her, which was Shiela's chair. Sunny put her chair next to me. She said, in this way, we can watch the drama better. She put her bag on the table and put her phone on it. It is like she is using it as her phone stand. She played the next episode, where we are.
"He is so handsome," Sunny commented when the leading actor came out. "I want to know his skincare. It might help me look like his skin." She added.
While watching the drama with her, I learned so many things about her. She notices everything. Even the things that are not important in the story. She will tell you right away. She talks to herself; I do not know if she knows that. And she is a crybaby. When there is a sad scene, you will see her tears fall too.
"Why is he so bad?! Can't he just go back to prison forever?" She starts talking again. She was referring to the bad guy in the story.
"The story would not be like that if he returned to prison." I commented.
"I know, but he is so annoying," She replied. "He could just punch that man. How could he refrain from punching that bad guy? If I were in his shoes, I would land a punch on that guy, and I would kick him for acting arrogant." She made a muttered remark.
If there were an award for an avid commenter of the drama, she would win that. Look at her focusing on the drama too much and keeping on commenting. I was interrupted while watching when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I fished out my phone and saw what it was.
It was a text from Marco, so I opened the message to see what his message was about.
'What are you watching?' He asked.
I typed my answer and said, 'drama' before sending the message. I went back to watching when Marco's name popped up again.
'Are you sure you are watching the drama carefully?'
Why is he asking me this? I looked up to find—the boys looking at me, grinning. My phone vibrated again.
'When did Sunny Clyde become a drama, then?'
And a photo is attached. It's Sunny and me. I'm looking at Sunny, not at the drama.
I turned down my phone and looked at the human beside me. Good thing she is into the drama. I looked back at the boys. Now they were all making faces at me. Mavin is not the only one teasing me now. I glared at Marco before going back to the drama we were watching.
This is killing me. What should I do with these people? Instead of answering them or Marco's message, I focused on the drama we were watching. I do not want to get caught again.
"Run!" Sunny exclaimed when the bad guy was chasing the leading actor. She was even stomping her feet. "Calm down. You are not the one he is after." I commented.
"Sorry, sorry. I was into drama." She replied, laughing at herself.
We had to stop watching when it was almost time for the next subject. I put Shiela's chair in the right spot.
"Later, again." Sunny told me.
I nodded and walked back to my chair. Not enough. I went back to daydreaming again the whole time. I am thinking about what I should say if Marco asks me about it and what will happen next.
I will just deal with it later.
After class, I ended up having no notes for today's lesson. I'll just ask Sunny about it later. But what should I tell her if she asks me why I do not have any notes today? She will ask why. She would not just let me borrow her notes without asking why. I know. I can sense it already.
"Hi, whipped cream." Philip greeted me, smiling at me.
Whipped cream?
"What's with your name base now?" I asked him back.
Philip just wriggled his eyebrows at me and gave me the thumbs up. My creased forehead. "I do not understand you. Care to elaborate on it by using words? Using facial gestures would not make me understand you." I told him.
He put his hand on his chin as if he was thinking deeply. Was he, though? "Since you are responsible and have been with her since day one, I approved it." He said.
What is he talking about? "You approved what?" I asked him again.
"I think he still does not know, or it has not hit him yet." I heard Gino's comment.
Philip nodded before me and said, "That's what it looks like now," he said. "But as soon as you realize what we are talking about, you can ask for help from us, okay?" He added and patted my shoulder, leaving me with questions.
He is just giving me a headache.
After class, I went to Sunny’s chair. "Where is Shiela?" I asked her.
"She told me they needed to continue their meeting." she replied.
I turned to her. "How will she go home? Does she have someone who she can go home with?" I asked.
Sunny nodded. "Yes, I told her to go home with her friends. She said she would send me a message on who she is with and what." She replied.
"Then let's go." I invited.
We headed out of the school. There are a lot of students walking out as well. There are also a lot of vehicles going our way. I held her shoulder and moved her to the other side.
"Idiot." I commented.
She turned to me, glaring. "I am not dying! I am a grown-up. What do you think of me? A kid?" She fired back.
I shrugged my shoulders. "You are not dying now. Grown-up? But your height does not ma―"
I could not finish what I was saying because she had hit me already. "Sorry, huh? I was born like this!" She replied.
"Let me borrow your notes later." I told her.
"Where are your notes? Why are you borrowing mine?" She asked back immediately.
This is what I am talking about. "I was not able to jot notes. I listened too much." I reasoned out.
She is now giving the 'I do not believe you look.' Her eyes said it all.
"I listened too much," she said, mimicking me. "It was the first time I heard you say that. It is also the first time you said this. What happened? Maybe you did not listen, and your mind was wondering." She added
She is right about that, though. "Do you want to watch the drama in our house now? I will send you off later to your house." I invited her. I am changing the topic.
She nodded excitedly. "I will send my mom a message then," She replied. "Let's finish the drama." She added.
"Let's go to the nearest fast food. We will just buy our food." I shared.
"How about Mavin? Is he at work?" She asked.
I nodded. "They are making a move now. So, he will be busy, or he will go home late." I replied.
They are now tracking down the killers after receiving a witness tip. He and his team will know whether or not the killers are one of us. Based on the reports, we can tell that one of us did that. But the other organizations would not go this extreme. If they did this, we must catch them before they cause more harm.
"He will be safe, right? I will text him to be safe. Your brother needs your assurance too. In this way, we can lessen his worries." Sunny said as she got her phone out and directed to Mavin's chat.
"You guys talk that much?" I asked after seeing their conversations.
Sunny nodded. "Your brother talks to me because he said you are not talking to him. You are always in your room, so we are the one who is talking. He has a lot of stories. You should talk to your brother more."
Tsk.
