Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Steven

"Just wait for me at the gate. I still have something to say to them." I explained. "Do not look at me as if I am going to do something bad to them. I won't." I assured her. "I am not Mavin and especially not Shiela." I added.

She nodded hastily. "O-okay. You promised me. I will go now." She responded, looking at her now ex-boyfriend before going out.

I looked at Jerk sharply. "Remember this day. Hide for a while. The class will hunt you down. I thought you received the message well a while ago, but I was wrong. If I see you with another woman, in addition to her..." I told him, referring to the woman he is with today. "You will regret it. I will be the one who is after you after that. Stop playing with people's hearts. Do not wait until one of them gets back to you. They are not your toys. They have feelings like you." I added.

"Fear me. I just do not punch people, I bite. I can tear your limbs and make you suffer until you regret what you did. These are not empty words. If you're not scared of me, then try me. I will be happy to show you who I really am."

"See you not so soon, Jake." I added before leaving the two of them, scared out of their wits.

I hope they did not piss in their pants. That would be disgusting, and I do not want that to happen.

When I reached the gate, I saw Sunny waiting for me. Worry is displayed in her face.

"Let's go?" I asked her and received a nod from her.

We walked silently. No one dares speak.

I pat her shoulder. "You did great, Sunny. It is not your fault, it's theirs." I told her. "It's okay to get sad, it is normal and there is nothing wrong being sad." I added.

She stopped talking and looked at me. "Can I cry?" She asked.

I nodded.

Her tears started to flow continuously. I embrace her in a hug and pat her back softly. "It's okay. It's okay. You did everything for him, right?" I asked.

She nodded. "I did." She replies, sobbing.

"Then it is his fault. Everyone can tell that you did everything. He is just a total jerk who did not know your worth." I said. "You will meet a guy who will treat you right. A guy who knows your worth. Do not settle for less, know your worth."

"Thank you, Steven. Thank you for always being with me when it comes to this kind of situation I am in." She said, after breaking the hug. "A while ago, I really did not know what to do. It feels like I saw this one coming, but I never expected that I would see it this early. I only readied myself to talk to him. Wishing I could fix everything about us and go back to what we were before."

"There are many things that came to my mind about his weak presence, but I chose to ignore them because I thought he still loved me. Maybe he is just busy enough that he was not able to call or message me. I believed in him that he would never do this behind my back."

"But destiny made me open my eyes. Do not be blinded by what I only know. A while ago, when I saw them...kissing. I could not even go and ask why the hell they are doing that. I felt like my feet are stuck in the floor, unable to move it. After you pushed me, I realized that I am just scared to face it. I am just scared to know that I am not his girl anymore even though I saw it already with my own eyes."

"I should have done this before. I can not tell how long he has been doing this. I am disappointed at him and at myself."

I wiped her tears. "It's alright. Relationships are not perfect. There are flaws and such you might encounter. Be disappointed at first, reflect after, and do not do it again next time. Learn from your mistakes. This is not the end of your world. There are more struggles you might face and this is just one of the bumps you need to finish for you to move." I shared.

She nodded.

"That is good. Now stop crying. You are getting ugly." I mocked and received a hit from her.

"I will tell you to my grandma. We will not cook tomorrow." She fired back. "You have been calling me ugly twice! I will tell this to your parents. I hate you." She added. "Just because you are handsome, you can say that to me? You can just keep it to your mind and never tell them."

"It's not my fault. I am just being honest." I replied, which made her chase me.

"I WILL KILL YOU!"

After a long ride, we finally reached their home.

"We are here." I said.

I knocked at their door since Sunny is only looking at their door.

After a few seconds, her mother came out and greeted her. "You're home. Are you okay?" Auntie asked Sunny.

Instead of answering, she just hugged her mother.

Auntie looked at me worriedly. I mouthed her boyfriend's name and the word 'break' that auntie immediately understood.

"It's okay, Sunny Clyde. It happens for a reason." Auntie said as she pats her back. "Thank you, Steven. Take care on your way home." she added.

"No problem, auntie." I replied and headed out.

It is also a good thing that she is open with her family. They can help her ease the pain and make her feel love. I will just see if she is okay or not tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, only Grandma came.

"Where is Sunny? Why did not she come with you?" Mavin asked Grandma.

Grandma glance at me.

"Why? Why are you exchanging looks? Is there something I do not know about?" He asked. "Oh my goodness, you are keeping some things with me, huh. Grandma, tell me. I hate being left out, may it be small or what. I want to know everything. Whatever it is." He asked grandma.

"She can't come today. She and her boyfriend...they broke up." Grandma simply explained.

Mavin's face turned sour to a happy one.

"That's good to hear. She should not be with that jerk. As time passed by, that jerk would only hurt her more. She should meet someone better, who she really deserves. Is she still crying?" Mavin asked.

Grandma sighed. "She just cried the whole night. She is still sleeping when I go here." She replied. "Does Jake hurt her more than twice?" Grandma asked.

I was about to reply when Mavin commented first and said, "Yes, he did. One time we fetched Sunny crying because that jerk did not came at all. I heard they just talk once or twice a week."

"My poor granddaughter. We never knew this was happening to them. We only met Jake once. We are always asking Sunny to let Jake visit us, but she said he is always busy. If we knew this sooner, we should have comforted her and helped her in some way." Grandma responded.

Hearing Grandma talk about that jerk is already depressing. I can tell he is not serious about Sunny right away.

Why did he even try to court her in the first place?

Does he think that Sunny is too easy to get?

That damn jerk.

"Grandma, you do not have to clean upstairs. I just cleaned this last night because I was bored." I told grandma.

"Why? Did you find reading boring last night? That made you clean it?" Grandma asked, shocked by the news.

Mavin nodded continuously, "No, grandma. He was listening to some audiobooks. He listened while cleaning. He is always weird, but he is right that you do not have to clean upstairs. He did it last night for two hours. You can not even see any dust on the floors." He explained.

"Is that so? I guess I will clean the bathroom first." Grandma said. "Do what you need to do now. If you need something, just call me." She added and headed towards the bathroom.

I will try to message her.

"Why did not you tell me about it last night?" Mavin asked.

"Do I even need to report it? It is not my position to tell in the first place." I answered.

Mavin sneers as he makes finger slaps. "That is why you are cleaning upstairs last night. It is because you know she won't be able to clean them. Am I right?" He asked with his sarcastic face.

"What are you talking about?" I asked back, feigning ignorance.

Now he is making sounds with his mouth. "I found it weird last night. Really. But now that I know the reason why, I will just make fun of you," He said. "You are getting soft, Mr. Rendezcah." He added, smiling.

How I wanted to punch his face and say nothing. He knows how to irritate me.

I went back to my room and laid down.

"I can get worried, right? She said that we were friends. I was there when that happened. It's normal for me to feel this."

I opened my phone and looked to see if she was online. There is a green dot that tells us she is online and awake.

"I will just text―no, calling is much better."

I clicked the video call button and waited for her to answer.

After a few seconds, she answered the call, and I was able to see how swollen her eyes were.

"From the looks of it, you cried all night." I commented. "Have you seen your eyes in the mirror? It's swollen." I told her.

"I just saw it now, because I can see myself in my phone." She replied. "Is grandma there?" She asked.

I nodded. "She said she would clean the bathroom first." I replied. "How about you? Are you okay?" I asked her condition.

Although I know it is obvious, I still want to ask.

What a dumb, Steven.

"After crying all night, I feel better. Last night, I was able to pour out my emotions. My sister said, I will be fine later or after a few days. All I have to do right now is cry." She answered.

"You look ugly, crying all night." I told her.

"MOM! STEVEN IS MAKING ME CRY! HE SAID I LOOK UGLY! HE HAS BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE LAST NIGHT!" She yelled, telling me to her mother. "Why are you smiling? It is not the right time to smile!" She complained.

"Mavin learned about what happened to you. He is finding you a while ago." I changed the topic.

"Is he there? He is not busy now?" She asked.

I shook my head. "Not now. I think they finished what they needed to do." I told her. "He also said that it is right that you get off from your ex." I added.

"Do you also think that it is right?" She asked.

There is a voice that she is hoping to hear a good one from.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but yeah, it is only right. I think you never listened to what I told you last night." I replied.

"Hey, I did." She defended herself. "I listened to everything you said. I appreciated it. Without you, I do not know what happened to me that night." She added.

"I know." I responded.

She glared at me.

"Have you eaten breakfast already?" I asked.

She shook her head. "I do not have the power to eat. I just woke up. How about you?" She asked again.

"We ordered a while ago." I responded. "Let's go out." I invited her.

"Huh?"
