Chapter 61: Chapter 61
“You got that right.” I wink at her. “How did you get here?” I ask her curiously.
“I had my driver drop me off. Uncle Luca said to tell you that he will be here as soon as he can. He is meeting with the detectives and his lawyer.” She looks at the door then back at me.
“Why is he meeting with the detectives? He wasn’t there.” I scowl looking at everyone confused.
“We have all been interviewed. But I assume Luca is trying to hold them off from coming to see you so.. soon” Carlos says as he scratches the back of his head.
Rosalia turns around at the sound of his voice, Carlos looks at her and he smiles at her. Her head snaps back my way and her cheeks turn a pretty shade of pink. I watch her as she tucks her loose hair behind her ear and when I look back at Carlos he remains staring at the back of her head. I casually flick my eyes between the two and realise the air has become thick with wonderment.
Conrad clears his throat interrupting my musings. I shake my clouded head lightly that’s still being prickled with an annoying migraine. I close my eyes and massage my temples with my fingers slowly trying to circulate the built-up tension out of me. If the detectives have spoken to everyone it's only a matter of time before they come to see me. Something I would rather quickly want to get over and done with.
“Do you need anything from home?” Conrad asks.
“No... I.. Uh..” I look to Carlos. “When can... I go home?” I ask hopefully.
“You still need to remain here for another few days, You just woke up from an induced coma Nessa.” He frowns at me. “I need to keep an eye on your Blood pressure and Luca informed me, by pure luck, he just caught you just before you collided with the bathroom floor. Your limbs are still sore and...”
“I want to go home, Carlos. I can't stay here... Please... I..” My voice breaks and I start to cry. Again.
“Uncle Lucas a doctor.” Rosalia stands from the bed as looks at Carlos, clasping my hand in hers.
“I know... that. Carlos says through gritted teeth. “But Nessa is my patient and I don’t feel comfortable discharging her knowing the risks.” He looks at me.
“You have no legal binding rights to stop her from discharging herself though do you?” Chrissy pipes up.
“No, but she will have to sign the ‘Discharge Against Medical Advice’ forms.” He states clearly.
“I’ll do it,” I say quickly.
“You know the risks!” He shakes his head. “If something happens to you at home, you know the hospital won't be held accountable and you can be turned away for further medical assistance. You’ll be a liability to the hospitals' reputation.” His voice is full of annoyance.
“I’ll sign it. I don’t care about the consequences Carlos. I just need to leave.”
“Fine.” He snaps looking around the room at every before he storms off.
I look at Rosalia. “I won't be coming back to yours though babe,” I say gently.
“Wha...Why?” Her shoulders sag.
“I need time to myself, I don’t think being around Luca is a good idea right now.” My eyes roam over her face taking in her features.
“You’re broken, he’s broken. Don’t you think it's a good idea that you both start to heal each other?”
“I know babe.”
“You know he won't like it too. He will come for you.” She says quickly.
“I know that too. But he will have to respect my needs and allow me to heal alone.” I say sadly.
“What about him, what if he doesn’t want to heal alone?” Rosalia Shakes her head.
“I’m sorry babe... but I just can't... not with him right now.”
“What about me?” She lets go of my hand and takes a step back. “I nearly lost you, I lost my cousin and now... now I’m going to emotionally lose both you and Uncle Luca at the same time.” She angrily wipes the tears sliding down her face.
“Rosalia...” Chrissy starts to walk towards her with her eyes glistening from tears that haven’t been shed yet. “Honey, don’t... Please, the last thing your Aunt needs right now is to see your pretty little face upset.” She grabs her and pulls her in for a tight hug.
Conrad walks to them and slowly starts to rub Chrissy’s back, desperately trying to comfort her before she starts to cry again. I swear I have never seen a man look as broken as he does when Chrissy’s so upset. Rosalia steps from Chrissy’s embrace after allowing herself to be comforted for a brief second.
“I will see you later on at yours then.” She wipes her nose with a tissue Conrad hand kindly offered her. “I need to sort a few things out.” She smiles sadly at me before she leaves the room.
Shit... Shit... Shit! I never wanted to be the reason for her tears ever. And yet there they are, streaming down her pretty face as she walks out of my room without a goodbye hug or a second glance. I feel super guilty right now.
“I’ll wait outside.” Conrad kisses the top of Chrissy’s head and exits the room too.
“Fuck!” I scream quietly.
“You cant try to please everyone hon.” Chrissy sits by my side.
“I’m going to go insane soon I can feel it.” I start to pull at my hair.
“Stop... Stop.” Chrissy cries freeing my hair from my abusive hands. “You are going to do no such thing. I will stay home with you to make sure of it.” She clutches my hand to her chest. “I’m going to be your anchor.” She says earnestly.
I nod accepting her offer, grateful to still have her in my life.
“Can you help me heal?”
“Do you even have to ask?” A glint of Sarcasm skips across her tired and tear-stained face.
